It's been a couple months since I've checked in on D&D Beyond, so the marketplace and subscriptions are new to me. Before I made any purchases, I just needed some clarification on what I would actually be purchasing. It seems unclear to me for some of these items.
Player's Handbook and Other Sourcebooks - So, when purchasing these items, are you just purchasing the PDF of the book or is there some additional functionality? So, in essence, I am buying the same PDF that I could purchase from the WotC website? Is there any integration with the Character Creator, or reference charts?
Add-On Items - These are not quite clear to me, and I could use some clarification. These additional purchases are add-on options for things like the Character Creator, Spell List, and Monster Manual. To access the features, you cannot simply purchase the associated sourcebook. For example, I would need to purchase the Spell add-on in order for Hail of Thorns and Bigby's Hand to show up in the handy Spell Listing. Purchasing the PHB would give me the PDF, which contains all this information, but the Spell Listing and Character Creator will not be updated to reflect my purchase of the sourcebook alone. Some clarification here would be great.
Subscriptions - Again, this one seems a little more clear to me. With either the Player or DM subscription, you get unlimited use of the character creator and a few additional perks, but nothing tangible in the form of additional reference items. Is this correct?
Lastly, I have a question about the races. For instance, the VOLO sourcebook adds 12 new races to the Character Creator, one of which is the Goliath, but Goliath characters can already be created, along with Bugbear, Aasimar, etc. Why is this the case, yet I cannot see simple things, such as all the Barbarian paths, from the PHB?
Where on the WotC website are you able to purchase a PDF? Last I checked, that wasn't an option.
When you buy the book here, you get a couple of things: 1) You get the compendium content which is word for word the same exact content and artwork you'd find in the book. But it is not in PDF form. It is hosted here on the website where you can search it using the global search at the top of the page or use the table of contents in the compendium section. 2) You get any character building options from the book for use in the character builder. These items also appear in the races, classes, feats, backgrounds, items, monsters, and spells listing sections, which is separate from the compendium.
You can also purchase the compendium content and the character building components separately at a lower price if you don't need one or the other.
The Hero Tier subscription gets you unlimited character slots and a few additional perks.
The Master Tier offers some campaign content sharing options and all the other options of the Hero Tier.
Does anyone know if purchasing the physical book gives you access to the content through this website as well?
No, it is not a possible option.
Why can't we make this an option. I've already paid about 300 to 400 on DND 5e books and source information. If we could have a way to prove it to you could you allow it to be unlocked? Or since we have to log in with Twich and Amazon owns Twich and i purchased everything almost from Amazon. There has to be a way to allow us with physical books to not get the shaft in buying stuff twice.

It's discussed and explained at great length in this thread, but advance warning - there are many pages to that thread.
The short version is, as Filcat said, no - it's not possible.
Please note that isn't, "we don't want to do it" - it's just not a possibility (explanation in the thread linked).

Not that thread! Anything but that! That abomination of a thread grew from 9 pages to 19 overnight and is now nearing 100--and with very little variety. Best evidence I've ever seen for the Great Wheel cosmology, that thread; it just keeps going in interminable circles upon interminable circles.

Yeah, to be fair, every page has at least 3 people posting, "I couldn't be bothered to read this thread, but I have this question...." which was invariably actually answered in the post directly above them.
Directing someone there for information though .... the alternative was explaining here and then this thread becomes the new version of that one... ;)

In that case, I congratulate you on your foresight.

I appreciate the short answer. This sales mechanism isn't different from any other games I have played, but if I could get two in one I would have done that in a heartbeat.
This product is the first I have used where the digital version is a wiki where some links lead to "access denied."
I purchased the digital copy only so I could build my character, I'm sure my new group has plenty of physical books.

Not sure about the Goliath thing.

Weren't Goliath's in the EE player companion? The free things from that were made available free here too, I believe.
