Currently there's no way to purchase content and gift it to a user (although, that is something we'd like to implement in the future). Current options could be to PayPal / ***** him/her the money, or create a campaign, enable content sharing, and let them join it for a while to see what the site is like when content is unlocked.
Any chance of an update on this? If I put a gift card on any list, I will never get it. Most people want to give something, and if they could gift me a book from here I am sure that would be a top choice.
+1 for implementing the ability to gift the ownership of one or more products to another, its not like it doesn't happen with the Hardcovers. Dont much mind if its a giftcard type thing or transfer of ownership, or both.
Can't believe this isn't a thing yet. Is it that hard to implement? I know at least 20 people in the past month alone who decided to go with Fantasy Ground for the sole reason they could buy the content as a gift through Steam.
This is one of the only things keeping me from bringing my people and campaigns to D&D Beyond. Why a "gift" option would not be a huge priority at launch is beyond me. I own all the books, but I'd absolutely love to give them my money by buying content for other people, Patreon subscribers, give-away winners, etc. There "workaround" to use PayPal and outside sources...no thanks. It's easier for me to just gift someone Fantasy Grounds content on Steam.
EDIT: Oh, and that's not to mention you can't create a campaign and assign someone else as the DM. So if someone wants me to DM, they can't buy me the books. And if someone has the books, they can't create a campaign and then assign me as the DM.

True, but is someone in the group has a Master Tier sub, they don’t have to be the DM, or do they have to own all (or for that matter any) of the books to be shared. As long as someone in the campaign has a book, it will be shared if content sharing is turned on. Don’t know if it helps your situation, and I realize it doesn’t address the lack of gift cards—which I agree is needed, but might help in the mean time.
I would also like to +1 gifting as an option. I had several items on my amazon wish list that I was going to send out to family, and that was before I discovered this site. Given the choice I would 1000% prefer someone to "give" me the gift of a "book" on here than from Amazon, but that option is frustratingly absent still. This doesn't seem like it should be that difficult to do. I can send gifts of skins and emotes in fortnite for crying out loud.
+1 again. I have the Master DM subscription but have neices and nephews and even some of my regular pals that also want to play their own campaigns.
Because D&D Beyond already has a mechanism to redeem key codes to unlock content on an account (below), it doesn't seem like a great stretch to be able to purchase content in marketplace, flag it for "gift" and have the store generate a unique code at checkout. https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/redeem-key
If they're worried about security, the "gift" toggle would also prompt for an email address for the account this code is for to prevent some other user from reusing or nabbing it. Though I'd think this is overkill since the codes can be pretty strong and once redeemed they're inactive, but in short it doesn't seem like hard problem to solve and clearly would bring more money into the tool.
Generating codes, not redeeming them, is actually the hard part. You need to ensure the codes meet the legal criteria for redeemable goods for the markets you want to sell them in. You need to make sure your marketplace backend has a means to safely generate on-demand codes with 0 chance of overlap and guaranteed redemption.
When doing it for bespoke products, it's easier because they have defined range of codes needed.
Is it possible to gift any content to another dndbeyond user? If so, just how do you do it?
Thanks!

I am the Inquisitor Imperitus. I am judge, jury, and executioner. Draw your last breath now, as I send you to the Nine Hells.
Thanks Hartless. Appreciate the response. I'll enable some content sharing in a campaign and help spread some dndbeyond love.
Any news on this front? I've got a bunch of DMs running for me at a con and I'd like to purchase them stuff on here as a thank you gift.
You just did a Cyber Monday sale - a day intended for buying Christmas gifts at frugally, but didn't get this feature launched. :-(
It's a day promoted by online retailers as a day for exceptional bargains, not necessarily Christmas gifts.
I heard rumors we're getting close to completion on this though.
Still waiting. Lazyness stops me from using workarounds.

Bump! Gifting options, referral bonuses, etc. Any updates on these sorts of things?
In the last developer’s update Adam/Badeye said they wanted to do this but it was taking longer than he hoped to get it in place.

Ah ty. I missed it. They didn't give an ETA did they?
Nope. They don’t do ETAs.
