They can re-add the character to the campaign, Unassign it, and then let you rejoin the campaign by Claiming the character when you join.
(This is due to a relatively recent bug; while it's still in effect, players should choose to Leave a campaign instead of having the DM Remove their character.)

Had your character been in a campaign? If so, ask your DM if the character wound up in their characters.
