Recently purchased my first content on D&D Beyond, and I'm recreating my high level wizard that I've been playing for some time now. In the course of preparing his spells for the next adventure, it seems that I'm unable to prepare the 16 spells I'm meant to because his 5 cantrips count against his prepared total.
I believe this is a bug, and I'm really hoping this isn't how that mechanic is meant to play, as I will have been doing it wrong for years.
It shouldn't, I've used it before without a problem. Prepared spells are int modifier + level; double check your list of prepared spells, there is a counter at the top of your spellbook menu.
"The relevant equation is: Knowledge = power = energy = matter = mass; a good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that knows how to read." - Terry Pratchett
Update: it was only happening in the character creation, when you pick your prepared spells. Once I completed the character, on the character sheet, I could prepare spells as normal.
The new character view is doing this for me. It is counting my cantrips in the number of spells prepared. Threw me for a second. It definitely gives me the correct number of spells I can prepare, but then lists cantrips among them. I can't "unprepare" the cantrips as I can other spells, only "remove" them from my spellbook altogether. But, I can't prepare any additional spells to make up the difference if that makes sense. In my case, I can technically prepare 15 spells, but the 4 cantrips listed on that webpage only allow me to actually prepare 11 on that page. If I'm keeping count through the Beyond site virtually, it's a problem. Can still print it out and do it all on paper, but thought I should report it. Thanks.

If you can post here the link address of the character, I can give a look.
I should have 14 prepared (level 7 + 7 INT modifier). It says 15, but I have one extra for racial genasi trait (Reach to the Blaze trait); it may mean that. Or it may be picking up on my +1 War Wand...in any case, I'm cool with the 15 prepared (that makes sense to me). It's the counting the cantrips that messes me up. Thanks.

You have a +4 INT modifier, not a +7, and you have prepared 11 spells (7 + 4). The math adds up.
Woh. My bad. I was totally working with my INT saving throw modifier (INT modifier plus proficiency bonus). I think when it said "Prepared Spells (15)" I just went with it and got messed up.
It does say "Prepared Spells (15)", counting cantrips in that number displayed, but if you click on into your Spellbook section, it'll break it down into "Cantrips" and "Spells Prepared." It's a little confusing, but working just fine.
Please ignore me. I must be half asleep. Thanks, though.

If you post the URL of your character I can take a look. As Astromancer said, it should be level + Int mod to prepare, and then cantrips separate.

Wary the wizard who focuses on homebrew, for he can create nightmares that you wouldn't even dream of

I'm not able to replicate with a new 1st level wizard - was it a certain level wizard you were experiencing the issue? Was there any multi-classing?

No multiclassing, level 11 Evocation Wizard, 5 cantrips, total of 16 prepared.
For me, problem is now solved, but hopefully no one else gets this hangup.
I'm seeing the ability to prepare 16 spells (level 11 + 5 from INT mod), plus the 5 cantrips I have, which is correct.

This is still happening, over two years later...
