Hi DNDBeyond I've noticed that since the WOTC takeover we no longer have discounts applied for pre-owned content across books and that it's very hard to tell if discounts are applied or were being charged full price?
The store will even charge full price for say buying the subrace bundle from Theros when they have 'ticks' showing all of the content is already owned from Tasha's - so I'm guessing this is a 'global bug' that it hasn't been updated to work with then new accounting post merger?
This is quite annoying as the recent Tasha and Mordenkainen Guide to the Multiverse unlocked a lot of content in other books yet we are still being charged full price for what is duplicate content... So it's quite easy for someone to buy things they already own and get charged twice.
Surely owning MTOF should have applied some level of discount being that it was a 'update' to content previously owned/unlocked on DNDBeyond.
Could you please advise if this is a known bug/issue and due to be corrected as currently I'm unwilling to buy unlocks on DNDBeyond if we're going to charged twice for the same content later on?
Alberta Banana@TheRealAlberta: Good News! I finally brought Zangief back from the Dead :D :D :D Also I'M A LITCH FOR REAL! Downside may have ruined 60% of Athas in the process... sigh... I'll fix it tomorrow. Okay, so when you look at the MotM marketplace page, it shows no discount on the full price? If you scroll down, does it show that you've purchased any of the Magic Item / Monster / Race bundles?
Also purchasing a bundle or individual options from a particular book has only ever applied a discount to that same book, not to other books that republished the same content. You just no longer "need" to purchase those individually from the other book. That part isn't new with the merger.
Ah - when I looked at it earlier this week there was no such discount - but now it's showing the discount has been applied it but hidden it behind a tiny blue i icon and is showing 'full price' with a small piece of black text saying "you already own this" - which isn't very clear and makes it really hard to tell at a glance what you have/vs need to get.
So it's not broken - just made less clear as to what is going on? - though I guess at least now I know that it's not going to charge over the 'total' price for books if I unlock some parts earlier.
I was also pretty sure that when I looked last year owning Eberron Rising from the Last War applied a discount to Wayfinders Guide to Eberron and vice versa, so it's a disappointment to know that this doesn't work as it means avoiding buying these books because it's mostly reprints.
I still think DNDBeyond need to put a extra button click to stop people buying things they already own unless they are 'gifting' - and consider a system where there is a small discount if you buy something you have already?
Right now it's quite annoying when you own over 50% of all the content from one book but still get charged full price to unlock the rest - which stops me unlocking books like Wayfinders Guide to Eberron, Sword Coast Adventures Guide or Mythic Odysseys of Theros because key parts of it got reprinted in other sourcebooks later on.

Specifically for Wayfinder's Guide, if you already own Last War then don't buy it. The only significant difference I have found is the last few pages of the Sharn chapter. WGtE has some rollable tables for making up quick stories and background activities. There are no different mechanics of any kind.
Way back when Last War released, a lot of people were rightfully angry with WotC about how the content was handled vs Wayfinder's. D&D Beyond (who was outside the influence of WotC at the time) offered refunds via support ticket. That window has now probably closed.
Indeed it was acceptable when DNDBeyond still had to pay full price for royalties, however now that WOTC owns DNDBeyond and been willing to give away books like AI there's no real argument to not discounting the earlier (now out of date) books.
As someone who has a mix of physical and digital there is no way I'd pay a 3rd time for Eberron but I might consider it if the price was reduced to a couple of dollars in line with the 'value' of what is being unlocked.
Likewise it was deeply annoying to be charged full price for Monsters of the Multiverse being that it was a update/reprint of 2 books I already own - so there's a degree of cutting off sales as a result of this pricing system. Which means ultimately WOTC make less money as instead of buying the reprint books people will just skip them entirely.
