I have a warforged character who has picked up a level of fighter. I chose Defesive style as my fighting style. At level 12 with the choice of the Composite Armor I have a 19 AC. According to the breakdown here is what it says:
Armor Class: 19
10
Armor(None)
+7
Unarmored Bonus(Integrated Protection)
+2
Dexterity Bonus(Max 2)
So since I don't see anything for the defensive fighting style I am assuming it is not counting as if I am wearing armor. Is this intended?
I have realized this can affect other things. A warforged monk or barbarian would be considered unarmored even when in the Heavy Plating. I am not sure it would be intended to work that way.
Medium and Heavy work with the defensive fighting style.
Medium and Heavy don't work with the defensive fighting style, if you use the rules as they are written down.
The tweet from Mike Mearls states that it SHOULD work. The tweet even mentions the importance of using correct wording.
Keith Baker (the designer of the Eberron content) has said that he would like for defensive fighting style to function with the integrated protection, so I expect that a coming update to the Eberron sourcebook will see a change made here.
For now though, it doesn't work, as per the discussion above.

Rather than missing out on a +1 if it were considered armored, I'm more concerned about items in the same vein as the dragon masks that give large bonuses if you aren't wearing armor. It makes 32AC possible with as little as 2 magic items (1 attunment) at high level.
Yup, dragon masks and bracers would currently add to the AC from being a warforged.
I think that it's fairly well understood what the intention was for the integrated protection racial feature - it is supposed to function as built-in armor and other game features should interact with it as if it were armor - I strongly expect the wording of the integrated protection feature to change in a future update to the Eberron guide.

The way I would change it, would be to have 4 modes, 1 armorless and 1 for each armor type, and you are treated as having armor of that type while in the 3 armored modes.
I dont think redesinging it to have 4 forms is necessery. If you dont have light armor prof, the "darkwood undercore" should count as unarmored. If you have light armor prof, it should count as armored.
So a 1 lvl fighter 1 lvl barbarian can have an ac of 20 with 16 from integrated then shield 2 and proficiency 2 then rage and take half damage? Since they arnt armor'd......

Hi Warderbrad,
that is correct - the Warforged racial feature of Integrated Protection does not count as armor for the purposes of abilities such as Fighting Style.

You're correct - however that wouldn't break anything.
A Warforged Barbarian or Monk can choose to use either Integrated Protection or their Unarmored Defense class feature. They don't stack in any way.

Just thought I'd give an update @Warderbrad. https://www.sageadvice.eu/2018/10/03/how-would-warforged-integrated-protection-interact-with-the-defense-fighting-style/

Until it is fixed to work as intended, yes.
You sure?
The conversation above applies to an older obsolete version of the Warforged that has changed since the official book release.
