Question on the title. The need comes from a player that wants to keep a secret from the party for as long as possible, but if everyone can see his character it will be no secret. He wants to be a changeling, while having his appearance as a drow and make everyone think he is a drow. Actually, he does not know he is a changeling, has never seen one, and thinks he is a drow, born into a drow family, and thinks his condition is a curse.
You can set the character to Private in the Home section of the Character Editor - and that will make the vast majority of that character only visible to the player and the DM - but I'm not entirely certain whether it still shows Race or not in the campaign menu. Worth a try anyway.
The issue is he did not buy the Eberron book. I did and I shared the content with my players through the campaign, as I have the game master subscription on DnD Beyond. So, he cannot do a changeling character, unless it's on my campaign. I guess we'll try to put it on private and hope it works.
He can create two characters in the game, then leave the campaign with the changeling character. Any Eberron content will still exist in the character, they just won't be able to add any additional Eberron specific content to it.

I created two characters when I played a changeling. One with my "fake" race for in the campaign, and then the real changeling character.

This is the way to do it. IF I was to do this in a campaign, this is how I would. And swap sheets when the reveal happened.

Thanks for you opinions!

OK, we'll try that, thanks!
