Just add a button that says add one of my characters to this campaign. Such an idiotic way to do this, as if the DM is never going to have their own characters in a campaign.
How have they still not added such a simple feature as this?
Because for them it's meetings, programming, prioritisation, financing, bug testing, and development. Depending on these factors and available scheduling it can take anywhere from days to weeks at minimum in optimal situations, to months if not optimal.
For you it's like a few seconds once in a blue moon at most. I recently added 4 characters to a campaign for some story ideas: and it took me less than 10 seconds in total to add all of them.

So my friend requested me to assist him with creating a dnd beyond character, I saw that you can create and assign an "Unassigned" character in the campaign area. I naturally assumed that your players could claim them as there is a "claim" button on it and then be able to edit it via their DnD beyond as one of their characters...
i thought it
a) is a great wat to intorduce new people to DnD and the app by creating with/for them and then transferring the character to them
b) saves a bit of time if your friend is time poor even though we are playing in a different campaign
I ensured source sharing and permissions settings were set, created the unassigned character, then got my friend to join that campaign and go to that part in the app.
unfortunatly the wall we ran into is that he could not see the unassigned character to claim...
Unless he’s a subscriber, he can only have six characters total. If he already has six, that could be why it’s not letting him claim this one. He’d need to remove one of his existing characters before he can add another.
Since I see no answer to my problem, and I spent hours figuring it out, I'll post a fix to the missing character.
If you click the link, and your character is not available to join the campaign (yes, he is not assigned anywhere), the easiest thing is to create a copy of your character. Then 'Copy of xxx' will be available in the list to assign to campaign. Then delete the original.
I figured it out before, but thanks.
