Nobody “messed up” more than likely. They are upgrading the homebrewer for us, and there are bound to be a few hiccups before they’re done.
I would argue that if people, like myself, are seeing homebrew races that are not even connected to their campaign, there's obviously a bug somewhere meaning someone messed something up, no?. I am not trashing on the devs -- I work in software and understand that this stuff happens -- so there is no need to get defensive on their behalf. I get that sometimes with new features there are hiccups, but the lack of clear response is frustrating to some, even if it doesn't bother you.
I’m not defensive, just informative. The system and the content are so intertwined that separating them from each other to do the upgrade is apparently a nightmare for the Devs. I was told that biggest issue with the upgrade is doing it in a way that the fewest instances of glitches like this happen. It’s like having to pick a bizillion tiny pieces of shell out of a smashed egg.
I learned about the complexities through a conversation I had with one of the Mods in a forum somewhere about a month ago. I’d link you to it, but I don’t feel like spending the next hour or two trying to find one rando conversation from that long ago. Sorry. Here is a link to another thread with many of the answers strait from Adam BadEye himself:
Also, the homebrewer we use is the exact same system the Devs use to input official content (we just don’t have admin privileges) and its fairly common knowledge about the shortcomings to the system. I expect many more of these hiccups and then they’ll taper off and then all of a sudden they’re gonna start dropping major fixes to things people have been begging for for years.
I appreciate the informative reply, and apologize for the argumentative tone of my previous statement. Your first message came off to me as a bit defensive but it's hard to read tone online. As I said, I would just like a bit more of an official response from the devs on the issue because it's not only disruptive but it was legitimately concerning me that our campaign had become corrupted. The other thread I linked in my original reply was started by another user who was similarly confused and concerned. Thanks again for the information, it definitely makes me feel better, and hopefully you're right and we will see all the things we've been screaming for soon enough!
No worries. No blood no foul. It was, like, 2 am when I wrote that so I probably was less than clear in my meaning.
I was told that the problem is that everybody’s homebrews are all tangled up with the system they have to upgrade, and getting everything separated without the whole thing coming apart at the seems is apparently a tricky task.
My guess is that’s why things keep sporadically going dark and keep suddenly fixing themselves. Every one of them is another tangled knot coming away and getting put right again.
I think there is some work being done on the homebrew system in general. I posted in another thread and got a pretty informative response from this user (which include a link to ANOTHER thread in which Adam BadEye responded to a load of criticism with a whole lot of transparency. So even if there isn't any official word on this issue, it makes me feel better.
Hello everyone! If you are still experiencing an issue with homebrew races, please try logging out and then back in. If the issues persist, please provide the following so I can take a closer look for you:
Homebrew Races Are Appearing That Should Not Be There
A link to a character where this issue occurs.
Whether the character is inside of a campaign or not.
An example of one of the races that appears improperly.
Homebrew Race Subrace is Not Available
A link to a character you want to add the subrace to.
A link to the homebrew race (it does not need to be published)
JUST a note: yesterday night (for me, +1 GMT) i had the chance to see my homebrew race in another character, briefly, just the time to swap characters and puff, it was gone.

Can you please let me know what result you get from this page?
Hi there. 3 hours ago i saw the first rave available.
I was able to use it
I noticed mistakes and i discovered i can't edit a public homebrew item.
So i procedeed to create a copy
As for 3 hours ago i could see the approved but not the copy. I go to check now
I still cannot use the modified copy, even if i see it in my homebrew menu. Also a question, how much time it gets since when i "edit" a race (or another homebrew item) and the item to reappear ? i thought it was instantaneous, but probably isnt so.
I'm having the same issues. Much of my homebrew isn't showing up while the lists are populated with homebrew content I'm not subscribed to. When I try to go to the details page of the weird homebrew races showing up in my list, I get a 404 Not Found page.
Other players in my campaign are experiencing the same issue
EDIT: the issue is no longer affecting my own characters, but is still affecting one of the players in my campaign
EDIT 2: and suddenly this issue that was affecting me for several days has seemingly resolved itself
Also a question, how much time it gets since when i "edit" a race (or another homebrew item) and the item to reappear ? i thought it was instantaneous, but probably isnt so.
thanks
It can be instantaneous, but sometimes it can take up to 20 minutes for the server to catch up to the cashing.
It’s not usually this complicated. Admittedly, even under the best of times its not the greatest system, but it’s not usually this finicky. They are doing some much needed systemwide upgrades and thinks are just a little extra hinky (hinkier?) at the moment.
I was having a lot of issues with custom subraces not showing up, and logging out + logging back seems to have fixed it, BUT IT DID NOT FIX IT RIGHT AWAY, it's only 10-15 minutes or so later that I noticed that my options started appearing. Caching issues maybe? I had forced a hard browser refresh (CTRL+F5) but I think the server might be caching some stuff too. Anyways, it's progress.

Weird races are still showing up for me. All we have heard on this so far is "We are looking into this" which is frustrating...

Ya, I haven’t heard anything yet either. I can bring my new players to the campaign yet until this is fixed.

Update: two of the subraces are now appearing in the builder. The other two are still missing.
All of the subraces I created have disappeared from the options for me & my players.

hello
i am in the condition where Homebrew Race Subrace is Not Available
JUST a note: yesterday night (for me, +1 GMT) i had the chance to see my homebrew race in another character, briefly, just the time to swap characters and puff, it was gone.
1. Character https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/Rot26/characters/30451957
2. Yes it's in a campaign
3. There are multiple races that shouldn't be there:

https://www.dndbeyond.com/subraces/214083-copy_of_hill-dwarf

I should be able to add:

Can you please let me know what result you get from this page?
Two things to check. First, can you let me know what result you get from this page?
Second, can you please check with all the other members of your campaign (players and DM) to see what results they get from these pages?

The "this page" link shows 6 different Raptor races. These are the ones in my collection.
Page 1 shows 3 pieces of homebrew I've made. A subclass, and 2 items.
Page 2 shows "You rolled a 1."
Page 3 shows "You rolled a 1."
If there's a way to insert pictures, I'd happily add screenshots, but I think I can only link to images on the web.
It can be instantaneous, but sometimes it can take up to 20 minutes for the server to catch up to the cashing.
You have to host the image on a site like imgur.com first. (Google won’t work.)

Hallo.
now i have full control of the merman of zendikar race
https://www.dndbeyond.com/races/422770-merfolk-from-zendikar
https://www.dndbeyond.com/subraces/242288-water-creed-ula
but i have lost control of this one (after creating it, seeing it and after an edit action it became invisible to all my characters except one)
https://www.dndbeyond.com/races/423563-zendikar-elf
https://www.dndbeyond.com/subraces/242808-joraga-tribe
this is the character where i can see it, but only because i choose it before it became invisile
https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/Perseveranza/characters/30451572/builder#/race/manage
i admit, the lesson i learned is that creating a new race isnt easy as i thought and the system still has troubles
better to stick with the races (and classes) already in the system
thanks for the support
