On the Class tab of the character builder. It depends on what class you are playing to determine at what level you select your subclasss, and what they’re called. For example, clerics choose their subclass at 1st level, and they’re called “domains,” Druids select theirs at 2nd level and they’re called “circles,” and fighters select theirs at 3rd level and they’re called “archetypes.” Please consult your class’s details page to discover what their subclasses are called, and at what level you would select your subclass.
I have the relevant source downloaded in my library but I'm still only seeing "hunter" for a Ranger subclass. I'm trying gloom stalker.
Did you purchase the book, or is it being shared with you? If it’s being shared, downloading the book is irrelevant, your character MUST be in the campaign in which the book is being shared. It isn’t being shared “with you,” it’s being shared with that campaign.

but if it's a homebrew level 3 subclass and my current class is already level 3 how would I get it then because it's not showing?
What level do rangers have to be to pick a subclass?
I would highly recommend, in future, that you read a thread before posting. The answer was already given, by me, in Post 30.
To note, this is only for 2014 version. In the new 2024 rulebooks all classes get their subclasses at 3rd level. But for now:

The alternative to Cyb3rM1nd’s suggestion of reading the thread, you could also learn what level by reading either the Ranger class page: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/5-ranger), or the details page for any of the subclasses for that class since they all have their features at all the same levels: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/5-ranger#RangerArchetypes).

what level is rogue subclass lvl?
Here, check the rogue rules page: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/12-rogue). Start at level 1, and keep going until you see the words “Roguish Archetype.”

Before anyone else askes:
With the 2024 rules you get your subclass at level 3 for all classes.
If you are playing a 2014 class (labeled LEGACY) the subclass level is variable. Please see the attached table by Cyb3rM1nd.
