I have a level 5 bard. I'm supposed to have 3 Cantrips, 4 first level spells, 3 second level spells, and 2 third level spells. I looked at the D&D Beyond resources to make sure that it was the same as I had written down, and it is; however, it will only allow me to add 1 level 3 spell. How do I fix this? (I'm new to D&D Beyond)
You are making a not entirely uncommon error of confusing the number of confusing “Spells Known” and “Spell Slots.” Not the same. Spell Slots is how many you can cast per day. Spells Known is, well, hopefully self explanatory.
Oh! I see- so bc the spells known equal 8, that means I'll have to/be able to cast a lower level spell at a higher level to fill that spell slot (should i need/want to)?
You could do that, but that isn’t your only option. You can cast the same spell more than once as long as you still have a Spell Slots to spend. You may only know one 3rd-level spell, but with two 3rd-level Spell Slots, you can cast it twice between Long Rest.

Rules wise, he could know 2 third level spells. Every level up the bard is allowed to replace one spell with a different spell, if they so choose. Of course, this isn’t taking into account any of the UA for switching spells

Baby steps. We just sorted out Spells Known and Spell Slots, no need to add UA into this yet. But you are, as you know, absolutely correct about swapping a spell on a level-up.

I hope that helps.

I'm in a homebrew campaign, where the DM allows every class to know all of their spells and prepare different ones after the appropriate rest.
There’s the problem, lol.
I think I finally understand lol. Thank you!
