Here it is, almost June 2024, and Wizards has yet to fix this... It should be easy enough to add Ammunition to the weapon list; after all, they added Exandria firearms, which less than 1% of their customers want or need. I would posit that ammunition is wanted/needed in ANY campaign! So why are they dragging their heels? All this attention on a new edition but none on existing issues?
How is this still an issue? 7+ Years?!?! What do we need to do to get this going? Do you want me to post every day? I work from home. I'll do it. This is ridiculous. You guys are making over half a billion dollars a year off us a year. What do we need to do to get your attention in a seven year old post? SEVEN YEARS! SEVEN! I almost never complain on here. In fact I've only posted twice in the 6 years I've been a DM tier subscriber. But this is some Nonsense.
Because they haven't fixed it yet. Reasons may include but are not limited to: low priority, lack of available time and resources due to other book releases, they just can't be bothered.

It's not about attention. They know some people want this feature. If they are going to get to it, they will when they think it is relevant to do so. If they're not going to get to it, then it'll never happen and they'll ignore this and similar threads.
You need to remember something: They don't work for you. They make the product the way they want it and will update it when they see fit. People replying to say they would like the feature is welcome and maybe there's a chance it might help them prioritise the issue. Karen-complaining and demanding they make what you want just because you're a subscriber or have bought content will not do anything for your case, will like cause you to be ignored. Threats to break rules and spam the forum ain't going to help. It's like a shop: you buy what is offered as it is currently offered, or you may leave if the products are not what you want. Having bought something before doesn't mean you get to tell the shop what to sell.
You have no rights here.
This is such a trivial matter (I mean, you can already make custom ammo. You can literally make custom ammo, right now, and play it in your games.) I will never understand this attitude some of you adopt over something so insignificant.

Yes. They have the right to ignore their fanbade and they even have the right to change the OGl if they like which you sound like you are full in backing them in their right to do so.
They are also allowed to use AI art, not tell anyone, and then either recall products or not when the fanbase takes exception to it.
What I am hearing is that if we feel they literally do nothing to improve DDB but rake in the money another company gav thm by crating the product thn everyone shoul unsubscribe. That is true, it is a good solution. And a fair one.
The idea that someone who makes a product does not work for the people buying said product is like saying that the cook at a restaurant does not work for the people who buy thir food so if tey want to replace the steak with tofu without telling anyone they have the right to do that if their boss i ok with it.
Without customers try to keep making a poduct.
I am not suggesting breaking any community rules in this post just a a note.

I'm confused, you made this as a reply to me, yet have clearly not read my post.
My post isn't saying don't provide feedback (if you read it you'll see I encouraged still doing so), my post is don't act like a Karen and threaten to break site rules until they do what you say. Especially over something so small.
Please read posts properly before replying and I would suggest don't make baseless assumptions so you don't do things like say a guy who made multiple videos about how WotC's OGL decisions were very bad was somehow in support of it.

This is not a "Feature the community would like to have." This is a BUG because there is a way to do it so it shows up properly in the system but the part needed to make it work correctly in their system is broken.
The workarounds people have come up with are just that, workarounds until the BUG is fixed. People have every right to keep complaining about this bug, in a product they're paying for until it is fixed.

It's really funny to see people coming to the defense of the poor, helpless, underdog Hasbro toy company about this. God forbid people expect a known bug to be fixed in a product they charge you money for, right?
We are now in the year 2026 and this still a problem.
Sometimes I hate it here.
When I posted in November 2017 (not OP but added exact steps to replicate the issue for me), I assumed it would be a simple database update and all would be resolved..
Since then I have a new job, I have a child that was born and made it to kindergarten now, I went through a pandemic and one or two financial crisis. My grandfather and father have passed. My brother and sister have moved out of state. My partner also has changed jobs. New Car.
DnD related I did run a campaign level 1 - 20 in the mean time as well, as well as several "normal" campaigns ending around levels 12-15.
I came to this looking for a solution and in 2026 this is issue still isn't solved kind of ridiculous.
If the goal is a "solution" then just make custom actions and custom items to make any sort of ammunition you want.

That is a "workaround", which is what many of us have been doing while we continue waiting for them to implement an actual "solution" on the backend worth the price of our continued subscriptions.

Definition of solution : "a means of solving a problem or dealing with a difficult situation"
Does the "workaround" solve the problem of needing custom ammunition on the sheet? Yes. It does. You can have any sort of ammunition you can dream up, easily, conveniently and with minimal fuss.
The solution may not be the exact specific solution you would prefer but it nevertheless is a solution by definition.

By definition, it's a "solution," but most of us aren't arguing if it technically solves the issue or not. We're saying that the solution we want is a bug fix to an advertised feature that doesn't work as advertised. The fact that it's a drop down that literally does not work means that this is a bug we've been asking them to fix for nine years. To say that a workaround should be good enough is like saying "well, you can always print out your character sheets and write in the custom stuff with a pencil." Yeah, it definitely works, but they're charging money for a product that doesn't work, and people are happily coming to their defense by saying "you can do other stuff to work around the fact that their [paid] feature doesn't do what it says."
We're saying that the solution we want is a bug fix to an advertised feature that doesn't work as advertised.
Where is it advertised that people can make homebrew ammo using a builder? I see they advertise that you can make homebrew magic items - which you can, that you can track things on the character sheet - which you can, and that you can customise a lot of things - which you can. Even if they were advertising "make custom ammunition" - which they're not, as far as I can see, then this is still accurate since you can, in fact, make custom ammunition. Where are they advertising you can make homebrew ammunition in the magic item builder? Do you have a link or screenshot of this advertisement?
The fact that it's a drop down that literally does not work means that this is a bug we've been asking them to fix for nine years.
Being able to select a magical ammo but not proceeding further due to ammo missing the weapon type requirement is a bug. This, however, only affects making a COPY of an existing ammo. It doesn't stop you creating ammo on your sheet for use in your games.
Even this bug, which doesn't stop you using custom ammo in any way, may also be fixed in the relatively near future. They've detailed a revamp of the homebrew system (the whole platform in fact) is being actively worked on and since then the roadmap has been updated to show this revamp of the system is now in active development.
Yeah, it definitely works, but they're charging money for a product that doesn't work, and people are happily coming to their defense by saying "you can do other stuff to work around the fact that their [paid] feature doesn't do what it says."
The character tool, the homebrew tool and the customising sheet things are NOT paid features. They're completely free. You are not paying to homebrew anything - be it in a builder or on the sheet.
Also, I'm not actually doing any of this to "defend" D&D Beyond. When newer people come posting here they are most likely people who wanted to make homebrew ammo, went into the magic item homebrew tool, realised they could not make one there and then came to this thread and posted without reading previous pages/responses. I understand that - I wouldn't expect somebody to read 10 pages / 200 responses. I will respond to let them know that they actually can make custom ammo, just have to do it on their sheet. The custom action stuff is not immediately obvious, so many people don't know about that system. So I let them know about it - so they can continue their games with their homebrew ammo and without having to switch to pen and paper or writing awkward notes somewhere. I also do this on reddit, in facebook groups, and anywhere else I find. I also made a video about it.
The number of people who thank me for saving their games and letting them know about the custom system far outweigh the number of people, like you and YoungBD247, who seem to give me backlash for it. So, I can assure you, I'm going to keep doing this : whenever somebody comes here thinking there's no solution I am going to respond to let them know there is one. Even if some people, like you, seem to dislike me doing so. And since the revamp that can resolve this in the way you specifically want has been confirmed to be in active development by the roadmap and by VP of WotC Brian Perry (you might want to check the reddit AMAs) I may not have to all that much longer.

Especially a bug the original developers never addressed for years before selling it with the bug still intact.
Reminder to Wizards that this is still a thing... shame!
