Hi -- I'm having trouble with homebrewing Arrows +2 (magic damage, +2 bonus to attack, +2 damage roll). Here are the steps I took...
clicked 'Items' > clicked 'Create a magic item' > selected 'Arrows, +2' from the drop down list > clicked 'Create' > revised NAME field to 'Arrows +2' > clicked 'Save Changes' > received 'You must select a weapon type' red error message underneath the 'Base Weapon' drop down > selected the drop down and searched for 'Arrows', but could not find
Should I just select 'Shortbow' or 'Longbow' instead or should there be an 'Arrows' choice in that drop down?
I also brought this issue up in the focused homebrew thread on the 12th. I agree that there should be an 'Ammunition' option for weapon types but until then I've been classifying my homebrew arrows as potions, because this allows you to track quantity while also keeping them as a single inventory item.
I was attempting to make a item using the Arrow of Slaying template. However it would appear I have to alter the template's base weapon type because Ammunition currently doesn't exist as a base weapon in the editor menu.
When creating a copy of say "Arrow of slaying" It requires you to choose a weapon type, none of which are: Arrows, Bolts, Bullets. So you have to either make it a wondrous item or a magic weapon of some type (like crossbow)
I assume it won't let you continue until you pick a base weapon, huh?
Looking at the Arrow of Slaying they have magic item type as weapon but left the base weapon section blank. I'll go ahead and throw this up as a bug. Thanks for the report!
Just ran into this same issue - Under the type for say, +1 arrows, it says "Ammunition" but that is not an available option for the base weapon type, as I would expect.
I tried to build a magic arrow today for the first time. I based it on an Arrow of Slaying, and ran into this bug as well. There is no "arrow" in the Base Weapon menu.
Yes if you look at the non homebrew +1 Arrow for instance it shows on the character sheet as item type ammunition with a variable quantity.
When you create a new item using a +1 arrow as a template this option disappears and it cannot be saved unless you chose a weapon, short bow for instance.
This option will work but means that you can only have single units and is not stackable.
Thanks to Swamp Slug for his potion fix that's a good solution and will use this for the time being
Yeah, it's a bit rough not being able to create consumable ammo types. For now I just had to make it a magic item with charges that can't be restored. =/
Yea, the creators addressed this bug in the last Developer's update. They stated that they temporarily threw in things like arrows and bolts under the "Weapons" category for now, but the ammunition category will be available in the future. It unfortunately makes it difficult for players to keep track of magical ammunition...
Hi, I'm trying to create a new magic item, but if I try to create arrows from scratch the wizard demands that I choose a weapon type, however there is no choice for 'Arrow'.
Public Mod Note
(Stormknight):
post merged from separate thread
My current workaround is I choose 'Longbow' as the Weapon Type, then give it 'Consumable' charges. This has the benefit of giving the special arrows the same base damage as normal ones.
As long as you don't tick 'Display as Attack' under Customize on the Character Sheet, it will display in the 'Limited Use' section with variable quantities....
Yo, this bug is still around. Making a monster specific arrow of slaying for game and can't get past the need to pick a weapon type, any info on a fix?

Agreed, this would be very helpful to have.

Correct, has red words of doom telling me to select a weapon type if I attempt to save.

I just ran into the same exact problem. I went from having 20 things in equipment to 80 just by adding some Homebrew arrows.

I really hope this gets fixed soon

Yep I'm having this problem too - still no fix.
