The dragon hide feat is worded to work with the official Dragonborn race, it specifically says Prerequisite: Dragonborn. This feat applies to the Dragonborn race from the Player's Handbook, and all variants
It should be noted that the new draconic race options aren't dragonborn, they are respectively:
Chromatic Dragonborn
Metallic Dragonborn
Gem Dragonborn
These races are three distinct options that aren't variants of the Dragonborn race.
It's more akin to the relationship between elf and half-elf races, and the Elven Accuracy feat that says Prerequisite: Elf, Half-elf
If Wizards of the Coast published the new dragonborn race options in such a way that they explicitly qualify for the dragonborn racial feats, D&D Beyond will endeavour to update the system to reflect that
Actually, re-rereading the UA, it does say they're variants of the dragonborn race. As such this would suggest they should qualify as dragonborn for that prerequisite. I'll pass this along but if I had to hazard a guess, it's a limitation of the system in terms of integrating UA.
System limitations are what they are. 🤷♂️ It’s fixable with Homebrew. But likely it’s because they were implemented as their own thing and not as actual variant Dragonborn. The versions I had started as Homebrew (before they were officially implemented) I made as actual variants of the Dragonborn and Kobold, and both the Dragon Hide and Dragon Fear were accessible as expected. If the Devs correctly recreate them as Dragonborn Variants instead of as their own separate thing then it should work.
Minor thing but would really help my gem Dragonborn sorcerer actually get some AC

Ok that makes sense, I assumed they were just updated Dragonborn, good to know.
Wait a minute, they aren’t variants of the Dragonborn race (like the variant half-elves)?!?
