I had an idea that would likely save many users much irritation, those of us who go 'round explaining siluch things uch time, and spare the DDB team from coming under fire so frequently. Could youse all please add one of those red warnings to the publishing popup? Something like this perhaps:
Whatever the wording would be better than no warning at all since it's the very last chance to warn folks. Perhaps with an obvious [CANCEL] button right next to [SUBMIT] to facilitate informed decision making. Wadaya say?

Trying to get your physical content on Beyond is like going to Microsoft and saying "I have a physical Playstation disk, give me a digital Xbox version!"
Definitely, it's not obvious at all that once published a homebrew will be "final"… that is of course until you do it then immediately notice something you did wrong. 😉
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.

I wonder if anyone with an orange sword will think it a good enough idea to let the people with the red borders around their posts know about this suggestion by flagging it or something?
So much so I added it to the theme my players and I use so they don't fall into the trap. I added a couple lines about not being able to unpublish and new versions. If Dndbeyond ends up putting their own warning I'll remove it but for now at least my group won't run into this problem. They are all just starting to get into homebrewing stuff and I've had to talk a couple of them out of publishing already lol.
That's cool and all, but why don't we just have a removal thing, where those who have the homebrew on a char sheet can use it still but it is archived (like the UA used to be). Or, better yet, deleted, like a post.

What about someone who used to have an orange sword but now has red borders around their post?
This is great feedback - I'll pass it along to the rest of the team (though I don't have any timelines or ETAs I can provide since this aspect of the site is out of my wheelhouse).

Maybe there is a way to "targeted share" your brews? So instead of publishing, you can "target" a few users by using their username and the homebrew is instantly shared with them, and only them, like a PM works?

Or just make a campaign, send them a pm with the join link and link to the unpublished homebrew.
If they're interested they can just add a blank character and view the homebrew - since it is automatically shared, no sub needed, with anyone in the same campaign as you.

Yeah but you have a limited number of campaign slots and that's a pain.
You actually dont have a limit of campaign slots. You do for "Master tier content sharing" but you don't need that to share homebrew.

I'll get behind that, hit 'em with the big red warning.
