The sidekick rules in Tashas allows for any creature to become a sidekick and get sidekick levels but when attempting to add a sidekick on my character page it only seems to allow humanoid sidekicks. Maybe if we could make sidekicks in character creation instead and pick the starting race as any cr 1/2 creature. Because currently I cannot make an almraj sidekick I want horn bunny to help in combat.
The sidekicks available in the extras menu are from Drsgon of Icespire Peak, and do not follow Tasha’s sidekick rules, including the rule allowing beasts of certain CRs to be sidekicks. Until/unless they get around to creating a sidekick builder, the workaround is to homebrew a monster. In your case, start by using the Almirante as a template and adjust/add things as necessary. Then add it as “misc” (not sidekick) to your sheet.
I have an issue relating to the same system: When adding extras and sidekicks to one's character sheet, they seem to lose all spell links. Because of this, adding a spellcasting sidekick (or misc) becomes a lot more difficult for the pc to run, needing to look up every spell individually instead of just mousing over or clicking on the spell.
If this is something I'm doing wrong, I'd be happy to learn how to fix it!
