Also, you have a global audience on D&D Beyond. If I put in my address (outside the US, I live in the Netherlands), I can't even get to the next page.
I tried clicking the link here "Products shipping outside the US, checkout on our partner site →" which brings me to the EU site, but that does not have the item available (trust me, I tried searching)... and (on top of that) it has the text "Prefer the digital book only? Head to dndbeyond.com." and a button taking me there. BUT I JUST CAME FROM THAT SITE!!
And it's not really a "shipping" product, is it?
There's also the question whether this whole form and process is GDPR compliant...
I used to be able (as a Beyond subscriber) to just click a button and claim a product. This is not a better process. If only because it doesn't work.
If digital only - just purchase via DnDbeyond
You only need to use the "outside the US" for physical purchases
Nope, still requires address info and does the redirect, even with digital. And submitting a ticket for this or the requirement for a CC in the first place results in a non response. The very opposite of service.

Strange I'm in Aus and used the DnDbeyond marketplace to get the "hold back the dead" for free within the last 24hrs.
I am commenting to add to the list of people who feel this is absolutely ridiculous! Free gift should not need credit card info. Huge put off. I almost didn't bother "claiming" it.
Yes, no need for credit card details for a free gift. But it's their choice to add the requirement. It's my choice to never buy any of their products again.
I think the problem started when they started selling physical books on D&D Beyond. They updated the payment backend and the new one doesn't allow to buy anything without a valid card and address. I believe it's not malice but incompetence.
I have been unable to convince new people to make accounts on beyond and the new ways they are running things is really scammy. After this group is done I think we are gonna go back to the hardbacks.
I also dont get why we are rebuying the same corebooks in 2025 that we have already. I have compared them side by side. We are not getting anything new, its just different words (in most cases the same)
Adding my voice to the choir of how frustrating and shady this is. Came to this thread after trying to claim "Hold the Dead" today, and was shocked to find out it's been an issue since December, completely ignored by D&DBeyond.
I'll wait until the text of the adventure is up on some other site, thank you very much. I don't need the maps and tokens for creatures, because I won't use D&DBeyond to run it anyhow.
just an FYI you can use a gift card for the CC number to keep WotC and hasbro from stealing and selling your information
Missing the entire point of this post. Real, fake, or otherwise, payment information should NOT be required for a free item. And shipping shouldn't be required for a digital delivery.
Nothing is ever free. In this situation, the cost is that you learn to pay for things on D&DBeyond.
Just by filling in your details once, they know that it becomes easier to do it again. What better way to teach people something than to offer something "free"?
Now when you see a bundle, you might remember how easy it was to fill in your CC details, or better yet, your browser lets you autofill the details. This lowers the treshold.
So that is the why. Whether you agree with it or not, is up to you.

Yes, this. Thank you for having already started the thread XD
You never had to “buy” the free gifts so why do you have to now. Fix it!

you can just google an address also. I like to use the white house address in most cases.
Good idea. Doesn't take away that they ask for CC information though.

The free materials were never through the shop though. There would just be a claim button on the page about the give away. It's ridiculous.
CC info for free item? Nope. I'll do without.

I didn't miss anything. I provided a solution to the issue.
