Would it be possible to get folders for easy sorting of our character sheets....possibly folders we can name ourselves? In case we want to keep an archive of dead characters, active, inactive, or want to sort them by world, class or anything else?
Would it be possible to have an option to print characters as Stat Blocks? This would be a great help to DMs referencing PCs in their campaigns without scrolling through a full character sheet. Thanks!
Please please please just make dndbeyond a little more friendly for the DM. it is wonderful for the players, but the DM doesnt get much love.
I wish i could see all vital statistics (hp, ac, checks/saving throws, gold, etc) for each player in a campaign instead of going to each player page I wish i could roll monster attacks/damage/saves/checks in the initiative tracker I wish i could track concentration and other tags in the initiative tracer I wish i could have a homebrew monster and it calculate the CR for me I wish i could see my players updates real time, for example, if the wizard in my campaign uses a spell slot, i can instantly see it on my screen without having to constantly refresh.
Again, i love using dndbeyond when i actually get to play. But using dndbeyond as a DM kinda disappoints :-(. Which forces me to use about a lot more applications/tabs than needed.

the one point i feel i have to explain is the CR calculation thing... the problem is from the fact that CR determines the proficiency of the creature. and since you needproficiency to determine attack rools and save DC which are crucial in determining the CR. you end up with an infinite loop that cannot be calculated. as you need to have an actual CR to determine creature attacks and save DC. but you need to have finished theproduct to get the said CR and proficiency. this is why its a thing that cannot be calculated automatically. this is why its hard to calculate CR.
i have created myself a homebrew creature calculator and i had to improvise CR bygiving the creaturea proficiency bonus based on what i want and then calculating the CR based on the stats i gave. but i often end up with a CR that would give a creature lower proficiency bonus and thus lower save DC or lower attack rolls which in turn would reduce the CR even more. at some point you have to ignore the CR entirely.
heres a formula explaining the problem... CR calculation... Defensive CR = AC + Hit Points, adjust + or - by 2 AC adjustment. Offensive CR = To Hit (need proficiency bonus) + Damage per round Total CR = Middle ground of both the above... Total CR determines proficiency bonus.
see the bolded underline part indicates the problem. we basically need the result to be able to determine how to get to the result. but without the result we can't populate the necessary equation to get the result. we need one or the other. this is why the book tells you to pick a "wanted CR"and use the numbers from there, then determine if you get to that point.
aside from that problem which makesus unable to get any real CR calculations going... i totally agree with everything else.
as a side note, if you are using google chrome, i suggest you take beyond help addons. which does most ofwhat you are asking. its not beyond per say, but for now its something.

Thanks man! Yeah the CR thing is definitely difficult to pin down. its definitely more "know the ability of your players" vs monster CR formula but having a mechanism in dndbeyond to do all the calculations for me would still be nice :-) .

LOL, yes. I might sound bright-eyed and cheerful.... but I've been around the block. I know that a lot of VTTs were given boosts because of the effects of quarantine So, yeah, I've got some hope - but definitely not high hopes ;)
mostly I just wanted to share the knowledge that such a thing even exists. I know that, as a browser extension, it has limited reach .... but AboveVTT really was everything I wanted, and none of the distracting "extras" that other VTTs make you pay for. I' use chrome as my default browser, so it was easy for me to just go and check out.
I've been wanting a VTT that handles D&D content well & intuitively, can interact with my characters and purchased content here on DDB - and- had video chat integration. I wasn't entirely worried about extra options, fog of war, dynamic anything, or a ton of game systems outside of D&D. I just wanted to be able to have DDB opened in one tab - and not ask my players to shuffle between multiple tabs or windows.
There's a game I'm currently playing in that the DM - bless them - decided to run video chat through Discord, use the DDB combat & dice roll trackers, provide the option to roll dice using Averae, and use Roll20 for maps and character tokens. At any given time, the players in that game have a Discord video chat window opened, a Discord chat window open (where the DM posts game text, handouts and images), a browser tab open to character sheets on D&D Beyond, and a browser tab open to Roll20. .... It's a bit much.
I know there's the Beyond20 app that bridges your DDB content with Roll20 - but honestly, I've had some conversations about some of the leadership and staff at Roll20, and it's soured that platform a little bit for me. Plus, frankly, it never really had great platform stability for my D&D groups - I was already shopping around for some Roll20 competitor that I could switch over to.... So that's why I don't just go and use Roll20 for everything.
anyway - yeah - if you are happy with the D&D Beyond platform and have lots of content unlocked here - and you use (or are willing to use) Chrome as your game browser. I really do highly suggest checking out AboveVTT, just to see if it suits your needs :)
I didn’t look through 80 pages of topics, but is there a plan or timetable to when DnDBeyond is going to have a TTRPG emulator in the works? It is becoming harder and harder to justify buying digital content that I cannot use directly in online games. When we were playing in person it wasn’t an issue and the clean layout of DnDBeyond was good enough, but now if I want to play a module I already have to buy it on a TTRPG emulator, if I am running it I’ll also buy a hard copy... but there seems to be less and less reason to buy the digital content here. The dice gave me the hope you’d be releasing a TTRPG emulator but instead we are being charged for dice only to be used live or in theater of the mind games. My yearly subscription is almost up, and I owned all content up to Icewind, but if there is no chance at playing a decent online game with that content, I can no longer justify using this product and will only be buying the sets through the TTRPG emulators we do use.

A “virtual gamespace” is planned, and they have already implemented beginning pieces of it: the digital dice, game log, encounter builder, and combat tracker. Maps/tokens are probably a longer way off. That said, there are several options that allow the use of a VTT and DDB without having to purchase content on both. It’s possible that none of them will work for you/provide all of what you are looking for, but here are some of the options:
-there is an independent (and officially unsupported) chrome extension called Beyond20 that integrates between DDB & Roll20 (and, I believe, Foundry, and maybe some others; it may also work in some other browsers)
-you can save maps from here an upload them to Roll20 or another VTT. I use the free owlbear.rodeo and do this. Granted, I haven’t uploaded maps from here yet because I’m not running a published adventure at the moment, but I’ve had no trouble with other sources, and I see this suggestion made frequently here when folks ask.
-there’s another, newer independent (and officially unsupported) extension that apparently provides a VTT directly connected with your DDB content. I don’t happen to remember the name, or the threads where it is mentioned, but there’s another poster who is a very prolific proponent of it; I wouldn’t be at all surprised if theychime in here shortly with more info. In the meantime if I run across a reference to it again I'll try to remember to come back here and post a link.
EDIT: I should learnt to scan an entire thread; the post immediately above yours discusses the third option I mentioned, AboveVTT.
I appreciate the quick response, and I am currently using the DnDBeyond/Roll20/Discord combo. If I run a campaign and I am not looking to spend money on multiple digital copies on two different platforms, I will end up buying it on the utility site before the well designed one, and that is a sad lost opportunity for sales for DnDBeyond as the quality has always been better. Maps and tokens that are available elsewhere will get my money until that changes as the economy doesn’t leave me with the disposable income to purchase multiple copies of the same publications. I will wait on renewing my master subscription, that is up in five days, til I hear about a more official timetable.

Then don't use Roll20. Switch to Foundry VTT and you can use a lot of your D&D Beyond material.

They don't provide official timetables, so it will be a long wait. That said, it sounds like you have a system that works for you, and you are clear on your priorities, and that's great. Happy gaming!
there is a new VTT directly using dnd beyond called "AboveVTT" its a chrome extension that transforms your chrome browser into a VTT directly integrated into beyond. like the monsters directly and tokens directly from dnd beyond images. works quite well, doesn'T have all the features yet since its pretty new, but its there and i really like it, comparedto all the others, since it really integrates with beyond.
you can try it, its in open alpha for now. there is already a lot of stuff done.

Requested a new feature that would be really handy. As the campaign owner and DM it would be great if the campaign screen showed just me a one page reference sheet for all my players key stats. Passive abilities, saving throws, hit points, the things that I generally review in secret without asking my players. Currently I need to have 8 browser windows open for my players character sheets, add in the encounter builder, a window for searching for rules etc, and then another window just in case then an o mine session will have 12 DnD beyond browser windows open.
it would be really great if there was just one page that collated all that player info for me.
I have this in various places, but I'll add it here just in case:
Possibility to search our Homebrew Collection when browsing spells, monsters, races, feats, subclasses, etc. (And ability for players of a shared campaign to do the same).
We can already sort by homebrew or official in the encounter builder, but adding this feature to the other advanced searches in D&D Beyond would be gold +++
Examples (mock up) -- see bottom right of images, where I basically copied drop down menu in encounter builder :

This isn't as insurmountable a problem as you'd think. I have a spreadsheet that starts with an expected CR, and spits out a rough actual CR. If I'm unhappy, I can change the parameters until they are equal. It usually doesn't take long as proficiency bonuses don't increase one-for-one with CR, and a one-point change in prof. bonus rarely makes the final CR change by much. Not so much an infinite loop as a convergent process which converges quite quickly.

which you just prooved again that you cannot just make mathematics works on something thatrequires you to have the CR from the get go, to get an actual CR later on. thing is, your thing works if the beginning CR is in the middle of the range. but as soon as you get in the edge of the tier, things gets messier.
exemple... i am expecting a CR 7, program ends up with CR 5. i'm still in the right zone for proficiency. but if i expect a CR 5, and end up with CR 2, then the CR calcs are all screwed up by the proficiency bonus having gone down 1. so again, yeah it works... if you give a CR right from thebegining, which goes against just calculating CR at the end.
by the way, i have made my own program too and it works... but again... to calculate CR you need either a proficiency bonus or a CR right from the get go.

Mathematicians are perfectly happy with iterative processes, and this one doesn't even take long to converge. The initial choice of CR hardly matters, and as I noted, that's true even if the bonus changes between iterations. The prof bonus just isn't as influential as HP and damage output. Just replace the initial CR with the calculated CR. It shouldn't take more than one or two tries to get them equal. That's not an infinite loop...
This is only a cosmetic idea, but I think it will be good if we could pick any color for the "Theme" and even a way to personalize the different sections (changing color).
Also if a condition is applied I would like a visual change on the character sheet that feels like the condition. (eg if poison, acid bubbles appear all around the character sheet)

-there’s another, newer independent (and officially unsupported) extension that apparently provides a VTT directly connected with your DDB content. I don’t happen to remember the name, or the threads where it is mentioned,
but there’s another poster who is a very prolific proponent of it; I wouldn’t be at all surprised if theychime in here shortly with more info. In the meantime if I run across a reference to it again I'll try to remember to come back here and post a link.EDIT: I should learnt to scan an entire thread; the post immediately above yours discusses the third option I mentioned, AboveVTT.

May we live in Less Interesting Times
