Hopefully the prices of things will come down to a sane level.
DND Beyond is a great site with a lot of potential, but it's all being held hostage by the absurdly overpriced costs.
It's literally the cheapest play to get the books even when they run on full price and are always offering discounts from 15% to 25%. You can get some content here for less than a 1/3 of most other places. And it also offers the option to get things piecemeal rather than all-at-once to work on a budget (and anything paid is discounted off the full books if you decide to pay the full things later).
Can you provide links to other sources that demonstrate how "absurdly overpriced" the content is?

Well, considering I already have most of the content from 5E when D&D Beyond was in the Beta, it's insane to pay nearly full price for digital goods that you're only buying rights to use, rather than owning a physical copy.
If there were a Digital voucher when you got a hardcopy, it wouldn't be so bad, but they wouldn't even do that.
As you will see in every thread where "I have the physical copies, why can't I get stuff on D&D beyond cheaper/free?" people will point out one important fact. D&D Beyond is a merchant selling D&D products completely detached from the products you have already bought. If you bought your books at a local gaming store, Beyond is like Amazon. Two different retailers; there is no relation between the book you own and the digital content here other than they contain the same information. If you bought a book from Waterstones, you wouldn't expect Amazon to provide you a kindle copy for free, would you?
As for pricing, D&D Beyond is very competitively priced. You can buy just what you need, be you a player (individual race/class options) or a DM (compendium content rather than character builder stuff). Complaining about the price here is like complaining that buying a replacement PHB is too expensive, and that because your copy got worn out and you need a replacement, it should be cheaper because you've already paid once. That's not how this works unfortunately.

Yes and as has been said many times over, WotC and DDB are two different companies. WOTC has to receive money from everyone that buys stuff here, I have a good portion of books in hardcopy format but not everything and since I have joined up here I still buy my stuff here but order a real book from Amazon.ca since otherwise books in canada are out of this world in price. The only real books I buy are the rulebooks since I can create adventures from those, Adventures are solely bought here.
To add what people have already said: you can also use the homebrew tools and some time to recreate races, subraces, subclasses, feats, backgrounds, spells, monsters and magic items for personal use for free. They can even be shared for every player in your campaign, also for free. It is not convenient and takes time but you won't have to pay a penny more for stuff already purchased. If you want the convenience then pay again.
I will also comment that D&D Beyond is offering the digital content at what is very often cheaper than any physical book counterpart of that content.

So basically just 'homebrew" the stuff and get it for free? Now that's using the ol' noggin!

Yep. You can either put in the time yourself for free, or pay DDB for having done it for you. Easy-peasy!

Stuff on here is actually near 50% off of MSRP. People are not paying "nearly full price", as the author of the thread stated. No idea where they got that idea from.

I have to make a monthly payment to have as many characters as want, have to pay 700$ to buy the "full game experience" when video game that require more effort overall charge 65$ for a full experience. Idk, the content for cost delivery is just lacking imho,
It's no different that buying the stuff on any other reseller's website, I don't know why they insist on getting a discount here. It isn't owned by WoTC, same any any other reseller. Although I wouldn't be surprised if they made a move to buy DnDBeyond once the VTT is in place and a complete package. Pure speculation though, I would if I was them.
All of the content is reasonably priced. I get that people don’t want to rebuy content after purchasing the physical copy. It’s much easier to have the digital content. I don’t miss the days of moving a small library of books for a gaming session. Let’s just hope they keep adding features, Encounter builder is off to a good start. Integrated VTT is definitely at the top of my wishlist for DND Beyond.
Just pointing out price vs product discrepancy. 🤷 Hopefully content creators see this and work out other ways to get material, either by offering ads or overall adjusting price. In the meantime while i find this a great tool and a promising idea I'll continue to use other resources.
Thank you roll 20 🥰
You have to make purchases at Roll20 too...

And Roll20 is often more expensive for the majority of books.

So do I have to buy like 370$ worth of books like 5 times for 4 other players and myself while also having us all pay a monthly/yearly subscription to have a good collection of stuff to play with? or can this stuff be shared because me and my friends don't have the luxury of literal hundreds of dollars to spend.
If someone has a subscription content sharing can be enabled in a campaign and then everyone in that campaign has access to all the content owned by whoever enabled content sharing. Alternatively, Homebrew is shared by default without the need for a subscription, so you could in theory make homebrew duplicates of everything that you want to use and not spend a dime.
Hopefully the prices of things will come down to a sane level.

I know exactly where they got the idea from: Amazon constantly sells stuff for crazy low prices. (They often do so and even sell at cost sometimes to undercut other sellers and dominate the marketplace.)
But yes, DDB's prices are below the MSRP of the physical books.
I have to make a monthly payment to have as many characters as want, have to pay 700$ to buy the "full game experience" when video game that require more effort overall charge 65$ for a full experience. Idk, the content for cost delivery is just lacking imho,
And that's fine. If you don't feel the services here are not worth the price, no one is forcing you to purchase them.
To me, they are more than reasonable and money well spent. I get FAR more value here than I'd ever get from a video game, but YMMV.
