Bumping this as well, I've got over a dozen homebrew items that exist solely to give feats to my characters. Which works for now but it doesn't parse well for less experienced players and is honestly gumming up my homebrew section with extra items.
I love the tool and the site, I appreciate the work being put in! I hope this can be figured out soon.
According to Adam from the dev update on Twitch just yesterday it will be coming on the release of the character sheet revamp, which looks amazing.

I'm so excited for this new character sheet, the old one works but this new one looks like it has all the missing bits thrown in. Also, EXCITED FOR GIVING MY PLAYERS EXTRA FEATS! This may now be a smooth transition for them to Beyond :)

Creating custom feats has been possible for a while. Adding feats to characters outside of the normal progression is expected to be part of the upcoming character sheet revamp.
I'm pretty sure he meant adding bonus feats. As in giving a feat to a character at any time as opposed to when the class level gives them.
I'm quite disappointed that such a standard thing could be be such an oversight, especially within a paid service?
They don't say when it will be released, because then if it is delayed everyone gets angry. Instead, they are going to work on it until it is fully completed. When they're done with it, they'll release it. If they released it now, it would be full of bugs - and then you'd be disappointed that your paid service was buggy.

Super excited to see this ability to add gained feats as well. The magical item "fix" is a little problematic as the features only work if the item is attuned (as far as I can tell). I'm going to try the one person's suggestion of going back to the character's 4th level skill up and replacing their choice of ability score improvements with the feat he earned and then manually adding the bonuses he chose at that level. Not a great work around for lower levels or characters who both choose feat at 4th, 8th, etc. over skill ups, but seems it will free up a magic item space and less time for me to create a homebrew item.
**EDIT**: I just saw that there is a box to uncheck for Requires Attunement on magical items. So yeah. That will work as well. I'm still learning this! :P

The ability to add feats and proficiencies outside the normal progression of a character will be possible when the character sheet revamp goes live.
Good to see this thread is still active and with a solution coming. I'm looking forward to adding my homebrew feats.
You can already create feats on D&D Beyond. This is about giving characters with extra feats, instead of only being able to do so at the given levels in the character's classes.
I don't know if that's what you meant or not, but I just wanted to clarify, in case you didn't know you could homebrew feats already!

There is no official ETA on the character sheet revamp.

I took.it as feats too consider most other character builders on the market, free or otherwise would have implemented this day one
