I was transferring one of my Pen and Paper characters to the Beyond system to see if it would work better as a character storage and I had a question and possibly something that is missing from the tool. The character I started with is for a solo campaign and because of that my DM granted me a feat to help balance the game since I will be by my self most of the time. I was not able to add a feat to the character sheet that was not tied to an ability score improvement step or part of the human variant.
How do I add additional feats to character sheets in the event they are given by the DM or trained for by the player during down time?
Also is there a way to add custom feats to the system?
Thank you for your post - we appreciate people taking the time to give us feedback.
During the beta test of D&D Beyond, we'll only be including content that is freely available from Wizards of the Coast, including the D&D 5th edition SRD , D&D 5th edition Basic Rules, Elemental Evil Companion and potentially others. The beta will not include additional content from a Commercially Released Book, Module or Supplement.
All of the remaining published content from the PHB, DMG, MM and other D&D 5th edition books will be added to D&D Beyond for product release - the cost for accessing this material has just been announced.
For now, homebrew is limited to Monsters, Spells & Magical Items. The staff development team are continuing to work to bring more content and tools to D&D Beyond and expansion of Homebrew is part of that. In short, no for now, but possible in the future.
The possibility of adding a number of feats outside the 5th edition rule is currently not addressed.
Thank you for replying about the custom feats. However how do I add feats my character trains for, i.e. I decide to have my wizard train for X months in game down time to gain the Lightly armored feat. Lightly Armored is a feat found in the PHB.
Yes. For now, the only way to give a feat to your character is by the Ability score improvement feature. The possibility to add extra feats to your character will be added on the future.
Expect the ability to add random stuff--like skills/feats learned via downtime--to come with the deluxe character sheet revamp, which, I believe, is expected to show up sometime this year.

Has the ability to add a "additional" feat been addressed yet?
Not yet.
As per the above comments - there is a major overhaul of the character sheet in development (and mostly complete).
The ability to add ad-hoc rewards to characters (stats, feats, proficiency etc) may be part of that, though I am not part of the development team, so this is an educated guess.
Just bought into the legendary package and the master tier subscription. This is a major feature that I require for my campaign and after dropping over $400, I’d have expected it as a basic function of character building. Can you give us an ETA on this major overhaul and what’s included. Only a few weeks left in 2017 to squeeze that update into this year!

I am in the same boat. I am also a legendary buyer with a master subscription. Kind of wish we legendaries had some voting power on the features being worked on (sprints).

You do, just by voicing your opinion here on the forums. :)
This would be a great feature. Been trying to allow more feats into my games so that players don't default so much to Variant Humans all the time. It would be nice to just throw them on a character at will after checking an override box or something. A somewhat decent workaround is just to use "manual" ability scores and give the player a built in ASI and a feat, but you'll have to wait until level 4.
I was hoping to find an ETA for this, too. If you're a high enough level for ASI's, one workaround I've found is to replace one of your score increases with the feat, and adjust your abilities with the "other modifier" space, in the abilities section. Which works for me for now, but I'm hoping we can add learned proficiencies, languages, and bonus feats, soon.

Any word on when you will be able to add feats whenever?

Thanks Stormknight - I came looking for this answer as well.

One work around that I have found is to create magic items that can be equipped to add various modifiers and proficiencies.
