So I'm filling out this little survey questionnaire and there have been a few spots that made me go, "Hmm." One such is the following question:
"As a player or Dungeon Master, how interested would you be in the following digital products for purchase on D&D Beyond?"
Firstly, is the question stating that the product options listed below are for individual purchase separate from any subscription price to D&D Beyond? Because I have to admit, that lowers the cost-value ratio for me (from Very Interested to Somewhat Interested), when I'm already investing in Books and the subscription price. I very much imagine that once various other features go online within D&D Beyond (the Digital DM's screen, whatever they plan to do with VTT, etc.) I can understand the regular subscription options going up in price, so it'd be my hope that some of these options would be included within the subscription itself to some extent.
For those taking the survey, were there other questions that gave you that sense your answer might not be interpreted in the way you intended?
It's worded pretty badly in multiple places. For example, they asked something like, which thing has "the most value" to me. But the question is, do they mean "as it is now, is it valuable?" in which case marginal things like the combat tracker, I'd say, no, right now, they are not very valuable. But a good combat tracker fully functional, would be very valuable. Which one does the question mean?
True for multiple questions.
Also, I got partway through it and got an error message that they had "all the responses they needed" or something like that -- which implies they stopped the survey after getting a certain # of answers. Why would they do that? Dunno.
I got that 'all the responses needed' bit when I went back to re-answer something (with the provided back button). So I figured the same thing, but the banner was still up and so I tried again and was able to answer the full survey. Though I agree a lot of it was poorly written -- I remember one question had the same answer listed twice.
The error message is because too many people are taking that survey for the survey server to handle.
SergeTroy: they mean to purchase, so yes outside of subscription.
BioWizard: they mean as a concept.
Basically the survey is so they know what they should invest in. If a lot of people like a Combat Tracker tool, they'll invest in it and focus on improving it at a higher priority. If few people value it, then there's less point in putting a lot of effort, time and money in compared to the features the customer base actually wants.
Personally I found the survey easy to understand and straightforward.

Yeah, I wasn't happy with some of my responses in that regards then, but I guess we'll see. I feel if they had packaged the question in a way that included the Books as an existing purchase item and than said, "In addition to that, would you like to see X," or whatever, it would have filtered through my brain with a bit more sense.
When I tried to take the survey for the first time I choose male for my gender, and it told me I didn't qualify for the survey. When I did it the second time I did prefer not to say and was able to take the survey, so do with that what you will.

Yes I tried a few different ways and they are excluding males from the survey. I hope this is an error and not some BS here.
They filled their quota of survey answers from male users within those age brackets and are simply waiting for more surveys to be turned in by users of the other demographics for their data pool.
Howdy! So I logged into the site today and noticed that there was a survey for me to take. I decided to gladly take it, as I would like to improve the site as much as I can. Unfortunately, I am disallowed from participating due to being male. It sounds strange, but every other age/gender combination seems to work, but no matter what I do, selecting "male" as my gender pops up a screen that says I do not qualify. Is there a particular reason for this? Have I done something I'm unaware of? Is this a bug on the site? I was genuinely confused at first, thinking there was a problem, until several friends of mine experienced the same thing. However, when they selected any other gender but male, it allowed them to take the survey without any problems.
I'm not sure what's going on, but I'm hoping this is either a bug or a delayed April Fools joke. We have taken several screenshots of the problem, and are going to be making a bug post if this is indeed a bug, but I would like to get some confirmation that this isn't an isolated incident before going that far.
Having the same issue, perhaps too many males answered the survey and wanting a diverse response they capped off the amount given? Im hoping that this is a bug instead, because I would like my voice to be heard as well as others who haven't been able to respond yet. Hopefully the devs see your post.
D&D Beyond is currently running a survey from April 2nd to 8th; there should be a popup blue banner with a link when you log in.
I am age 35-44 and Male. When I entered this, I received the following message:
Assuming it was an error, I tried again. Same result. Then I wondered if the survey was discriminating based on either age or gender. In a new browser, I entered my same age, 35-44, and selected Non-binary, and I was able to continue the survey, seeing this question:
To finish up my test, I also tested the age variable. I entered 12-17 and Male, and received the same You do not qualify to take this survey message.
Now, obviously I did not proceed with entering misinformation. I want D&D Beyond to receive good reliable data. And I want people of all genders and ages to receive representation.
Result of my experiment? Apparently having male gender disqualifies you from being able to take this survey.
I have to wonder...
Why would D&D Beyond not want data from users with Male gender?
Was there a previous survey that was run that focused exclusively on Male gendered users, of which I am unaware?
If this survey is intended to focus exclusively on users with Female gender or Non-binary gender (which it appears to be), then why not clearly identify the survey as such?
I had no problem filling mine out is a Male 35-45 bracket. I did mine earlier this morning. They must have filled their quota for that demographic already is all.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.

Yes, the last few surveys have been worded terribly.

I do not qualify to take this survey.
and now is this really the case???!! If I select Male as a gender its states: Sorry, you do not qualify to take this survey.

Wth is with the discrimination towards men?

We look forward to your response.
Same here - I don't seem to qualify because of my gender.
Let's not get our panties in a bunch, I'm sure there's an explanation. I know DDB values inclusivity and would never discriminate like that.
I was also blocked when choosing Male...
