I saw that there was a survey so I went to go do it but there's a slight problem it says you aren't qualified only if you are male. I checked with other ages and the other genders..... this only happens with male. Hope this is a bug.......
Thank you to everyone who has filled out our survey so far! Unfortunately some were unintentionally prevented from completing it, so we've taken down the link to fix that issue. We will repost the survey as soon as possible so everyone can fill it out to the end!

And to add a little more context to Lauren's post above, this is the first time we've used this survey tool and process.
We found several settings and options were not set up the way we would want them to be once this got out in the wild. We didn't run into those restrictions during testing because we didn't scale that enough ("it's a survey, can't be hard" was the thought).
This did not go well and we'll learn and improve from it.
Thank you all for the feedback and apologies for the confusion and inconveniences!
That'd be great, because after 3 decades of input & creativity to the hobby, to suddenly be informed that your opinion is no longer relevant to the future of your favourite game is a little disheartening :p

This survey has nothing to do with the future of D&D. This survey only has to do with this website, and this company that owns it has only existed for 5 years.
Yeah and this survey pretty clearly told us that they were filtering dudes, whose opinions apparently don't matter. I was an ardent advocate of dndbeyond. I told all of my friends about it. I had literally just bought a backgrounds pack before I went to do that survey, and let me tell you, I wish I had done the survey first.

There are 2 staff comments on page 2 of this thread that indicate this was a mistake so I will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume this was not intentional.
They were attempting to have male answers be filtered and didn't know how to do it. Don't worry though; they do now. Now when you fill out a survey and send it in, it'll go straight to the trash.
Jesus wept, OK, just to provoke more sensible thought here:
What benefit would there be in excluding males?
This survey is only for their own purpose, to help as a business to focus on things their customer base want, assess how they may be doing. Excluding males or trashing responses doesn't provide them any benefit whatsoever. Knowing how many males/females/other and age brackets helps them understand their demographic better. Excluding an option only serves to provide them less data to work with or screw up the figures to give an inaccurate view of their customer base. If it turns out there's a significant gap and certain genders or age brackets are really low in responses, may indicate a potential to offer different marketing or products to increase those figures and generate more profit.
Even if they didn't want the opinion of males, they could just say "We have realised this game is played by mostly males, we would like the feedback of females and non-binary, so we can see what we can do to be more inclusive!" Or something and just have options for Female and Non-Binary. It would be understandable. There's just no reason for them to be shady about it. It's not discrimination. It's still better for them to include males to identify if there is as much of a difference and get the feedback if there is, all in one, and knowing the opinions of the males helps them too. So as I said, there is no reason for them to deliberately exclude males and IF they did want to for some reason, there wouldn't be a need to lie or secretly put responses in trash. That would just be counterproductive in all senses.
They played with some settings and made a mistake, which was swiftly fixed. That's it. There's no conspiracy, the agenda is to improve business.
Good grief, people, come on.

As someone with an actual statistical background, I just want to throw this out there in case the mods are still reading this thread.
If you, for some reason, want to look at a specific subgroup, the correct way is not to filter it at the entry point (the taking of the survey) but at the point of analysis. One should never, ever, prevent the collection of raw data. You can never go back and get more again if you don't have enough raw data. But, if after collecting the raw data you find that you want to sub-sample or partition the dataset, that is trivially easy to do. So let's say, for the sake of argument, they were mainly interested in people who said they want to buy all their stuff virtually and not the people who said they prefer hard copy books. The way to deal with this is let all 10,000 or however many people take it, and then extract the records that include the answer you want, say 1,000 people who want to "go virtual" and analyze those.
Always collect all the data... then analyze it. Never start the analysis first. You will lose raw data that you might need later on and now you'll have to do a second survey. And as anyone who has ever run surveys will tell you, the more you ask people to do them, the more people click the ignore button.

Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.
I have not had an opportunity to take the new version of the survey, I only took the first one. Will my feedback still be counted? If not, is there a link to the new survey so that I might fill it out?

Perhaps read the entire message before zeroing in on the ALL CAPS MODE to get a better idea of the tone.
I got it, it was amusing.
Thanks for update, Lauren and Adam!

People make mistakes and it turns out that survey systems can be really complex in options and the way they work.
Way moreso than we thought.
We fully admit that a mistake was made here, as Lauren & BadEye explained.

I took the survey! I didn't encounter the aforementioned issue, so it's clearly been fixed :)
Hopefully my feedback helps DDB continue to improve their product and offerings!

Is there a link to the new survey? I took the original one, but haven’t gotten a chance to take the corrected one.
