So I have seen that you can add a creature or companion statblock on an existing character sheet made on D&D Beyond right? But is there anyway to do that outside of making a character and adding it to say a homebrew subclass later? For example, how it appears in the wildfire spirit statblock appears in the Circle of Wildfire subclass statblock. I tried using the D&D Beyond homebrew monster creation but cannot bypass any requirements like how hit points display or even AC for that matter.
If there isn't something like this, it would be awesome if there could be.
I’m not entirely sure what you are asking, but you can add any creature to a character sheet regardless of subclass, just select the Pet, Mount, or Misc option and choose the creature. Statblocks that change automatically don’t work if you do it this way, but static ones like a warhorse work fine.
If you don’t want them to be tied to a character sheet, just search the monster up in the monster list, or your homebrew collection if it’s a custom monster.
(If this isn’t what you’re asking, let me know and I’ll try again to help)
So this is what I mean: I am have a homebrew subclass made that grants you access to a creature statblock feature wise like how the circle of wildfire druid also grants access to the wildfire spirit. However, if i were to try and make a homebrew monster I can't make it display it like shown in druid subclass with how it adds the players PB to some areas because the creation of a homebrew monster doesn't allow anything in something like hp to display as 10 + five times your class level or for damage 1d8 + your PB for example.
This is what I want to display in the subclass but cannot change hit points to something that isn't a only number when creating a homebrew monster.
Ah, yeah. I’m pretty sure you can’t use formulas and stuff yet in the character sheet. If your new creature has the exact same mechanics as an existing thing like a Beastmaster companion you can use the Beastmaster extra, but yeah it doesn’t work yet.
I think I would just hardcode the numbers and adjust the creature as it levels. After all, it's not like proficiency bonus goes up all that often. Of course if you're looking to offer the subclass to others outside of your campaign, I could see how that method would not really fix your issue.
