I have a couple of friends who all have birthdays in the same month and they all play D&D, so we are going to a month of D&D. There will be four session andwe will be playing level 20 characters.
I want to make a Voodoo Priestess, based upon this costume.
Marinette was born and raised in a secretive cult who worshiped the Obyrith Demon Lord, Pale Night a.k.a The Mother of Demons. At a young age she displayed an extraordinary talent for magic, mind control and violence and quickly began to dominate her peers. By age twelve she had already amassed a cult following of her own. Marinette's followers practice a strange and exotic form of the cults teachings which they called Voodoo. Where Marinette had learned of such practices nobody can say for certain, but she once claimed that Pale Night was her mother and that she was her demonic avatar clad in human flesh, and that as the daughter of a powerful Obyrith Lord, and her mothers demonic avatar, she was gifted knowledge from other worlds - other realms.
Amongst that knowledge; she claimed, was knowledge of Voodoo, which comes from a far distant realm that few but most learned scholars even know exists.
Whether or not Marinette's claims are true really doesn't matter. At this point she is a powerful Voodoo Priestess whose very presence strikes fear into the hearts of those whom she turns her attention towards. Marinette's aura radiates bloodlust and insanity that strengthens her allies and weakens her foes and her sweet words can lull even the hardiest of enemies into a death like trance from which the seldom wake.
Her sole purpose as an adventurer is to spread chaos and insanity throughout the realm.
She is a chaotic being but she is also intelligent, so for the purposes of story, she isn't going to kill her allies or steal from them or anything like. Instead, her attention is turned towards the general populace and any enemies who try to stop her.
(not all chaotic beings just go around killing their allies or stealing from them etc)
She is also looking for a way to free her mother from the depths of the Abyss.
So that's it guys, that's the character that I want to make. Any thoughts on how I might make this character? Remember, we are playing level 20 characters, so our characters are pretty much demigods.
Oh and this character will only be played for the month of D&D we are going to be doing.
Looking forward tor reading all your thoughts on how I might make this.
Thanks

What kind of voodoo? Zombies? Concersing with Loas? Curses/blessings? Voodoo dolls? Reading someone's fate?
Mostly conversing with Loa. Although the Loa she converses with are mostly chaotic beings themselves. Spirits of death and chaos and insanity.
Through them she has learned secrets that few mortals possess.
It is also through them that she gains much of her power and knowledge. Including the knowledge of how make zombies and the power to raise the dead by coercing, convincing or commanding various loa to do her bidding.
Marinette walks a fine line. The Loa do her bidding and teach her secrets/give her the knowledge she seeks because she is strong of will and strong of mind but the monument she shows weakness, they would turn on her like a pack of rabid dogs. As chaotic beings themselves, they loath to be bound into the service of anyone.
I would probably go with a straight Death domain cleric. If you want to multiclass, possibly mix in wizard/necromancer, though clerics do have access to multiple spells for creating undead and you only get the most powerful spells in any class if you have at least seventeen levels in it, and I think half the fun of playing a limited run level 20 game is getting all those cool spells/tricks. By the same token you could go straight necromancer and have the "priestess" part be just flavor, making sure to have the appropriate spells to contact extraplanar beings.
Yeah I'd look at Wtf's list + Spirit Bard. Pick spells from necromancy & divination schools. 90% of this is going to be your descriptions and roleplay at the table, so don't get hung up on what class would be best. My "grim shaman" type guy is a Phantom Rogue/Totem Barbarian, for example.

For some reason I was thinking Trickery Cleric/Berserker Barbarian before I made my post then, I realized there were just so many possibilities.

Want to start playing but don't have anyone to play with? You can try these options: [link].
I would say multiclass a dark caster type and murder-ey type non-caster.
Clerics: Death, Grave, Trickery.
Monks: Shadow, Long Death.
Rangers: Gloom Stalker.
Rogues: Assassin, Phantom, Soulknife.
Sorcerers: Aberrant Mind, Shadowmagic.
Warlocks: Fiend,Great Old One, Undead, Undying.
Wizards: Necromancy.
