Just wondering what class you play as most, and why.
My personal favorite is the cleric, because of all the different roleplaying choices that you can make with the different domains. I also like being the most needed by the team!
I had to take about 10 hours to decide whether to click 'fighter' or 'wizard' because I like them both pretty much equally (and for entirely different reasons). I clicked 'wizard' in the end because that is where I tend to start with any new game (no matter what sort - if it has one option that's wizard-like, that's my first choice) to get a really good look at how they game plays.
The reasons why I prefer wizards go back to the fantasy media that stoked my interest in D&D, like Final Fantasy video games where I thought the mages were the most interesting (like Tellah and Fusoya from FFIV, and Terra and Celes from FFVI, which I knew as FFII & FFIII respectively from the super nintendo days), or books that I can't remember the titles of or what series they were a part of but the main characters were magically inclined.
With fighters, the preference comes entirely from the game-play of being the warrior type - it's so straightforward how to be good at being the warrior that it feels like a "I'm just gonna hang out and do nothing for this entire week" style of vacation from my usual role being a DM. I especially love 5th edition's Champion sub-class for this.
sorcerer, roleplay wise I love getting a charisma based character and the less controlled magic, gameplay wise sorcerery points have saved my ass a few times

ROGUE! I'm playing one again after last playing one with 4th Edition and I love it. I just enjoy the versatility and whilst I'm not the best at calculating bonuses and whatnot I have a lot of fun with it.
Rangers and Monks. The flavour of both just... Appeals to me. I think they both lend themselves well to creative and flavourful thinking in combat, too.
My favorite class is the one that the party needs. Once everyone else has picked what they want, I'll play the class that is needed or that would complement those choices. As such, I don't have a specific class that I'll play more than others so I can't pick a selection in your poll. I can be happy playing just about anything.
It often works out that I play the "tweener" classes because of this attitude. A fighter/mage, cleric, druid, bard, runepriest, paladin... whatever fills in some gaps and rounds out the party.
I'm a fan of Rangers and am having a lot of fun playing one in my current game. For me they fit into a nice intersection of being a weapon user that is tough enough to wade into the fray, is typically stealthy and can be thought of as being an expert. My group also tends to include a lot of overland travel and wilderness adventuring so the Ranger class fits in nicely.
I love Bard, Ranger, Monk, and Warlock, and it's hard to choose 1 favorite from those 4. Honestly I play everything but Fighters, Clerics, and Sorcerers, and even Wizards are usually a 2-5 level multiclass to get more spells (and/or bladesinging) on a gish or other hybrid character, rather than a class I play for itself.
I chose Monk, because it tends to get the least attention of my top 4, and because I'm currently playing a shadar-kai monk in Eberron as an ex-arena gladiator turned inquisitive with a very reactive and unpredictable fighting style (drunken master's tipsy sway is key here), and will soon be playing a tiefling kensei monk as a fast, agile, bullet-dodging gunslinger in a Ravenloft game. Monk, to me, is one of the most versatile classes in the game. I've got a character in waiting for when one of the current campaigns ends or takes a break that is a translation of my 4e Assassin/Avenger Covenent Agent, using Shadow Monk and some levels of warlock, and I almost picked Monk instead of rogue for my swashbuckler, before deciding that I wanted him to do alchemy and tinkering and dabble in arcane magic, and so needed too many skills and Dex/Wis/Int + decent Con would be way too MAD for a point buy character. (that character is now a swashbuckler rogue with 2 levels of bladesinger wizard, who uses the XGTE crafting and tools rules to full advantage).
Monks are just cool. I really want a scholarly monk who gets a couple extra skill trainings in knowledge skills, and something like the inquisitive rogue's ability to study an enemy and get the upper hand as a result, and make an Indiana Jones meets Sherlock Holmes character.
Warlock is my favorite, closely followed by sorcerer.
I like the idea of magic being dangerous, mysterious, and otherworldly. The idea of having to make a pact for magic, and costs and consequences of doing so, speaks to me. Subsequently, and perhaps predictably, my favorite sorcerer subclass (origin) is wild mage, where your magic really is unpredictable - dangerous both to others, and yourself.
Third prize is split between monk and bard. I like their versatility, strong identity, and the shenanigans they can pull off.
Those are the four I could play any subclass and greatly enjoy it. Beyond those, I like subclasses rather than the overall classes themselves. Battlemaster fighter, mastermind rogue, and arcana cleric spring to mind.
Earlier editions Ive usually gone fighter, almost always for 30 years or so. But with 5e Ive tested quite a few "new" classes (at least to me they are, hehe) and some fine subclasses. My latest love is the PactBlade HexBlade warlock. Dark and Mysterious and capable in both melee and ranged combat, with a sprinkle of nice spells that can help you outside combat. Such a big RPing potential with the mysterious patrons, love it!
Ranger is usually the first character I play in any version. Probably because my parents got me a Bear compound bow the same Christmas I got my D&D boxed sets. But I'll play nearly anything. I usually would say Druid is top tier as well, but in this version I have not enjoyed it, so it has dropped for me. I now really like Warlocks, but also Paladins and Clerics depending on the group. I've also really enjoyed a Rogue in some off-shot games. All in all, I really like a lot of the classes this time and as more options keep coming I keep trying new things. I hope I don't find out the upper limit on number of DNDBeyond characters...
I tried a few things early on, when I started playing back in high school, and eventually I discovered that rogue was where it's at for me. I did okay as a bard and a fighter, but my play style was just naturally suited to rogues-- sometimes curiously honest ones, at least when it came to dealing with my own party. I liked coming up with elaborate spy/thief backstories for them.
I was not great at handling the mage when I was needed to step in and control someone else for a session, but I kept her from being killed and that's pretty much all that matters. There are other classes I'd enjoy playing around with, but I'm always going to want to go back to rogues.

I would have picked Mystic, but since it is still UA it's not on here...lol But I have enjoyed playing Bards and Rogues in the older systems. Now though, I am loving the cleric!

Bards. Whenever I get to play I always play a bard it's just something about being this mix of fighter mage and rouge that can cast counter spell with song lyrics that just makes the table more fun.
Though I tend to be the last person to choose a class, and therefore usually go with whatever the party lacks/needs, I have really been enjoying the cleric. Currently playing a Pathfinder game, so I'm technically a dwarven warpriest (Bolgur Thunderstrike, at your service!), but the versatility with weapons and magic appeals to me. For this reason I also love monks, rangers, druids, and to some extent warlocks.
Honestly, bards are the most foreign to me so I've always wanted to play one!

I bounce between druid, warlock, paladin and bard. Not just in 5e, but pretty much any of the fantasy games.

I'm torn between barbarian, druid, fighter, ranger, and sorcerer. I went with fighter because I've been creating a lot of them lately.

Interesting. Rogue seems to be in the lead on the poll, followed by a wizard/warlock/bard mix.
