Has there been any word on whether or not Tasha's hardcover will provide a discount for the DND Beyond version, similar to the Essentials Kit (and perhaps others?) did?.
Would rather not pay full price x 2 if so.
It almost certainly won't. Essentials Kit was a specific collaboration between D&D Beyond and WotC.
Tasha's is just a normal release like every other. I strongly doubt there will be a code for digital unlocking.

As someone who uses Dnd Beyond, Roll 20 and plays in person. Its frustrating to have to buy so many different copies of the same book. I know Roll 20 allows you to import characters made here, but if you DM and want to make all character options available to your players, then your still forced to purchase them in both places. 3 if you want a hard copy version of the book. I wish there was a way around this. Not every player has thousands of dollars to expend to play D&D. Would be great if WoTC would offer a digital tie in edition. Maybe its a percentage more expensive than the normal book, but offers a digital version thats compatible to D&D beyond and Roll 20.
Perhaps this is off topic, but felt its related to the OP.

I have everything bar one or two select things, and it cost me like maybe $400 so far, probably less.
My group has accounts on here. I share everything with a Master sub. We use Beyond20 browser extension to roll and display things from the character sheet / stat block/etc directly into Roll20. None of us have had to buy anything on Roll20 at all. In fact, it's proven much more effective than using Roll20's compendium/sheets.
D&D Beyond are working toward a public API so more scripty-crossplatform goodness seems likely for the future.
While I don't play in person, D&D Beyond can be easily used using any mobile device with a browser or that can support the D&D Beyond app (which lets you download everything for offline use).
I genuinely see no reason for buying anything more than once.

if i already purchased the PHB and MM, do i get a discount on those items when buying the sourcebook bundle?
If you mean you bought them on DDB, yes, you'll get credit for what you've spent. At least, that's how the Legendary Bundle works.

Yes, that's it! Sorry, I should have clarified I bought them through DDB. ;0 thank you!
sorry. another quick question ... If someone is buying this as a gift for me through the DDB system, will the discount then turn into a credit on my DDB account when I use the key to unlock the goods? I really like DDB, just trying to figure out how not to lose the value on my original, exploratory purchases now that I'm happy with the system.

That, I do not know. Gifting is so new I haven't heard if it takes this into account or not.

OK, np. thanks anayway! Do you know who the admin are so i can ask directly?
I see Tasha's has the default 15% price reduction for those with the legendary pack, but will more price reductions be added for those of use who already have some of the features in the book?
Like, I already have the Bladesinger from SCAG. Wouldn't this be discounted because I already have the class?

No. Just like Xanathar’s is not discounted if one owns the SCAG, and just like Theros is not discounted if one owns some of the races from other books. It’s the same if you buy a print version, Amazon won’t charge you less for Tasha’s if you own the SCAG either.
I have hard copies and only need the data for the APP. I want to start by buying the character info and then later follow that up with monsters and Items as needed. I understand I can buy piecemeal but was not sure what content I should focus on for characters. Basically, what data do we need for making characters? As the DM I will have my membership to share things I just don't need PDF of books I have already.

You'll find that purchasing parts of a book quickly adds up and you'll soon be at a total cost where just buying the whole thing is more cost-effective. If you already own the hard copies and don't want or need the full book, fluff, etc, you can purchase the "Compendium Content" only at a lower price point. This gives you full access to the options for building characters in the tools here without paying for the extraneous content.
EDIT: DISREGARD - I got that 100% backwards, as pointed out below by IamSposta. Compendium Content is what you DON'T want - essentially just the readable content of the full book, but does NOT include the data for use in the online tools. Ugh. Listen to them, not me. Too early, not enough coffee...

That is absolutely incorrect. The “Compendium Only” content is only the readable information from the books and not the interactive player tools at all.

First, you will not get PDF versions of the books at all. If any website gives you downloadable PDFs of 5e books, those are illegal and have been pirated.
For making Characters, you will need the same information that the books tell you that you need: Races, Subclasses, Backgrounds, Spells, and Feats. Just so you know, if for example you were to purchase all of the options from the PHB it would cost you the same amount as it does to purchase the “Full Version” of the book which includes a downloadable compendium for you to read as well. Just purchasing the interactive bits will not save you any money as compared to purchase ing the “Full Version,” the only real advantage to purchasing piecemeal is that you can start by purchasing a single subclass at a time. If you intend to buy all of the options anyway, just save yourself the time and purchase the “Full Versions” of the books you want and enjoy the complementary digital edition of the PHB that you’ll get with it.
Thank you everyone for your replies. I love the app and will probably spend more money then I should. I just want to spread it out over time. We are actually still finishing up a 4e game but I have been working on my 5e campaign. I have been trying to sell the group on D&D beyond so I was hoping to buy the basics for character generation followed up by monsters as needed. Thank you for the information. Sadly there is not really a whole lot on how the program works when it comes to buying things. They stress way to much on buy everything, which I will never do.
