I'm not a fan of a digital sheet that tries to emulate a paper sheet, since in that case I'd rather just use a paper sheet. That's why I prefer DDB over FA or MPMB. DDB doesn't look like a sheet of paper, and that's a good thing imo. While the current sheet has its functional flaws, I like the overall look of it and find it easy to use at the table (other than grabbing buried features, which I know is going to be fixed so I'm not gonna harp on it)
The new sheet looks similarly fantastic, and takes advantage of the possibilities you can only get through digital (the info anchoring looks super handy), so I'm very pumped for that to finally be released. I'm very glad they aren't going the direction of FA or MPMB in layout. If you want that sheet, those options exist. I'm sure the updated pdf export will be a good fit for those seeking a similar option, but what we've seen of the revamp continues with digital functionality and style.
I actually really agree with this. The great think about a digital design is greater space efficacy and information access due to pop ups and links. The DDB side menu that they showed already is a great example. What is the exact wording of a spell? Click it and find out! They have added passive perception and passive investigation but they could just put passive and active mode buttons above the skill chart and switch it for all of them! Why? I actually use passive athletic tests so that strong players can just open stuck doors without a roll some times and I use passive stealth checks so for players trying to be inconspicuous in a crowd were they don't know who or what direction they are hiding from they just don't want to draw attention, so its not contested its just how a specific character behaves and if someone IS looking for them they roll against the passive which doesn't allow the cover player to use max skill in a test they didn't know to actively try and respects the characters disposition and skill in that they are not automatically found skill improvements do raise the "DC". I am not suggesting a need for this, I usually track it on my GM screen and players don't need to track it. I am just saying the ease of access that a digital interface can provide has serious advantages over pen and paper with a stack of books. I wouldn't mind at all if I didn't have to bring any books to a game and still had access to the same information with quick links possibly with official sage advice and errata rulings and clarifications in another sub drop down. The more information have access to without changing screens or tabs the better in my opinion, not counting popups. A lot of time could be saved looking up rules like "unseen attackers" and "attacking unseen targets" (which came up during my last session. Apparently I was the only one that new those rules and had to get the books out and show everyone it is a thing.

The lack of inflection in text means that a reader of any post adds their own inflection as they "verbalize" it in their head. I write long and repetitive in an effort to be clear and avoid my intent from being skewed or inverted. I am also bad at examples. It is common for people to skim my posts pull out the idea they think I mean or want to argue against or focus on my bad example instead of the point I am actually trying to make. I apologies for the confusion my failure to be clear and concise creates.
I only got access to the test version 2 days ago, but I can confirm it's almost ready for you all!
It's worth noting that, whilst this will be a MASSIVE improvement over the current sheet, the D&D Beyond team will remain receptive to feedback for further improvements - things can always be made better! :)
AN UPDATE!! That's awesome... I am excited. So can you confirm "almost ready" means it will be released this by the end of June or just that they are in the polishing stages and it will be released when its ready, which will hopefully be this month but not necessarily? (No objection from me either way, just curious) an official "Soon" is the best answer I have hear so far but still very subjective.

June. We'll have in June. If I'm wrong, I'll come on here and apologize. I'll listen to any whole album you pick as punishment. You can do your worst. But I'm 99.999% sure they're not messing with us. June. It will still be June when it comes out.
... 7 days left and falling... you sweating yet? lol ...Stormknight said its almost ready but did not confirm a June release date. Just basically said what I was asking for them to say when I said I figured we would not get it this month because we had not hear anything yet. I still have that opinion since Stormknight just said they are close and he just saw a Test version for the first time. I am think with that we can expect a release announcement in the next couple of weeks with a date maybe late July. A little sooner than my previous guess of August but I a hopeful we will all know pretty soon one way or another.

When you are on the character sheet, click on the avatar on the top left, then "Export". It will create the PDF for you.
The current PDF export function is lacking many details of your character, but next week it is going to be a revolution.
Of course I am NOT sure. There is no official announcement yet that I have seen and even moderator's didn't list a release date. Sure filcat is a moderator but I still haven't seen anything but vague speculation. I am no different. I have a guess and an opinion based on the information I have. Stormknight's statement of actually having a test copy is the closest thing and I stated above that information does make pull back to next month but with seven days left this month and no announcement Stormknight statement of "soon" could still easily be next month. Its not impossible for them to release this week, but I think it would be bit unusual not to announce a release date a week or two before the actual release. Possible yes, but unlikely. I suspect they gave Stormknight and some of the other moderators have a test copy to look at, play with, and try to break so they get some last minute feed back being that is the hole point of calling it a test copy. It is not the final if it is a test copy. The hole point would be to find and fix minor issues for one last pass to polish the produce. Which I am all for but takes time. Generally speaking after a produce it polished the developer announces a release date and has a big reveal, and then goes live. DDB could forgo that, or could do it 7 days. It just seem unlikely in my opinion. That said, I am not implying I have never been wrong before... and like I said we will know in at least 7 day... sooner if I am wrong. At the very least when I first said this a little over two weeks ago and people said I was silly, we are coming down to the line now and even if I am wrong... I don't look so silly now.

Can you point to a time the DDB staff has done so? I don't remember such a case. the closest to this I remember is a staff member posting in the buyers guide thread (back when it was a draft) that homebrew subclasses would be dropping "on Monday" IIRC, that statement was made no earlier than the Thursday prior, and it certainly wasn't a blanket announcement .

I haven't checked every DDB release, no. I am talking about general product releases anywhere by anyone. If your saying DDB is different. I have only had an account since February and the original sheet was already out and I have no interest in there mobile apps or other products so I don't have point of comparison without comparing to broad industry norms. On top of that as a relative new online distributor to my knowledge I think judging the first year would be unfair to them. There is always a learning curve and a need to establish a process. So if your saying that makes them a wild card, sure but then I am still back to using what information I have so its not really changing my answer. 6 days left, so we will see soon enough. If I am wrong (since there are so many people determined that my guess based on my opinion is) I will post saying I was wrong. Not that I will really mind, it just means I will get to try it out earlier than I expect.

This isn't a product release. It's a feature upgrade to an existing product. And they have never 'announced' a feature upgrade more than a few days in advance. And those 'announcements' were just casual mentions on the forums or on Twitter.
I'd be surprised if the character sheet revamp didn't appear this week. But I presume the reason they refuse to give definite dates is that not infrequently there are unexpected challenges that arise, even in the process of preparing a deployment. Given that Adam has clearly indicated that they expect it by the end of the month, I very strongly suspect they still expect to deliver it this week. There's just no advantage to hinting that it's coming out this month, over and over again, and then announcing that, no, you have a major delay right before that deadline. That would be silly. They aren't silly.
Could problems arise that delay the release? Sure. Does the DDB team already believe they won't release for another month or two? There's really no good reason to think that.
Of course, the only folks who actually know are the DDB developers, and they aren't talking. So this is all just 'fun' speculation.

Of course! Fun speculation. That said you do raise the best counter point to my opinion that anyone has said so far in that this is an upgrade not a product release. In a way I have been thinking of this as the actual release since I can't use it as is in our games. This means it feels like a release to me but you are correct almost all of my statements are normal of a product release not and update... hmm... I mean blizzard (just for example) would announce a scheduled release for a majorly awaited update but as I have already acknowledged that as a newer online service DDB should not be held to a "standard release practice" being that they are still long enough for standards to be in flux as process develop. again. We will see.

Badeye/Adam (the project lead) has been very clear from the beginning that they do not announce expected release dates until everything is in the bag/certain; dates are simply too likely to change and it creates disappointment/lack of trust in customers. What a lot of us are pushing back against is your assumption that they would have announced a date by now if it were coming our before the end of the month. Many of us who have been around since they beta know that is simply not how DDB does things, regardless of what the perceived "industry standard" is. That was the reason for my earlier question, not to claim they were a wildcard (unless you wre using that word in a way I am not familiar with)

The existence and Badeye's frequent use of thenews and announcements thread proves he is not at all against making announcements and does regularly.
So what your saying is that I have a guess of it being next month and people were sure it would be this month, but your REAL complaint is that I have an opinion that you have deemed as wrong? I mean Badeye/Adam has said they can't say a specific date but he has also been suggesting quarters and other have been referencing his comments as indicating it would release this month. If what your saying is true why are they not getting the push back that I am getting? You can say my opinions are wrong but they have in fact announced several releases to the mobile app and other features prior to their release during monthly videos I have seen and even through critical role before the release. I would be REALLY surprised if they don't do an announcement on critical role about the release of the character sheet revamp prior to the general release and also suspect that the cast of critical role likely also got the test version to play with. (I am in Japan and work during the live session so I don't get to see it until it releases on youtube on my Tuesday. So if they said anything last week I don't know about it until tonight)

People will riot if they push it to next month. Before you ask yes I do believe it's better to release with issues then push it a month.

I don't know about riot, but most likely serious BUMMAGE I can see. But I agree at this point a release with bugs would be better then a pushback. That also being said any bugs in it they were not aware of would show up fast as us users would play with the sheets and do things they might not of thought of. us having access to it would help with finding bugs ande such. That occurred with the mobile app launch that yes was very early but I believe we gave them good feedback and that helped them.
I don't see that BadEye has started a new thread on the N&A forum since the mobile app alpha came out in December. So "frequent" may be a stretch. I think the fact that multiple devs and mods are all saying, without giving a hard date, that it's coming out in June is a pretty good indicator, however.
Seriously dude, you seem to be the only Debbie downer who is insistent that since they haven't given a date that it won't happen. There is zero evidence to support that pessimistic claim. How bout we all just give it the week before we lose our shit over a missed, "promised" release date.

I apologies for the confusion my failure to be clear and concise creates.

The existence and Badeye's frequent use of the news and announcements thread proves he is not at all against making announcements and does regularly.
