They added...Spell points? HELL YEAH CANT WAIT TO USE THOSE RULES
Unfortunately, no, they did not add UA, spell points, nor feat-life systems into Beyond yet. I am just excited that other people's screaming for third party content finally paid off and gave us results, so I wanted to scream about UA, spell points, and feat-like systems, hoping those things would be eventually implemented. I never expected Beyond to do third party content, so it was not exactly on my wishlist, but it is something that I would like to see. AND NOW WE FINALLY GOT IT!!! WWWOOOOOO!!!
I am not too adventurous with third party content, so most of the stuff I would like to see are by authors who work closely with Wizards and unofficial content closely related to the official stuff. Now that we got Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn, I would also like to see Critical Role: Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting (the first book published by Green Ronin). I also want to see some more Eberron content from Keith Baker, like Exploring Eberron, Chronicles of Eberron, Dread Metrol, Morgrave Miscellany, and a few of his other books.
And since they seem to be a bit more willing to embrace third party content, it would be nice if they could bring back Legends of Runeterra content.
Besides UA, it would also be nice if they can incorporate semi-official content like the Plane Shift PDFs by the MTG team. It would also be nice if they can incorporate AL stuff too.
I only read your post, not any others, so I don’t know if anyone has said this yet but, all UA from before the release of Tasha’s will never be added. They’ve even been removed from the old D&D website from before DDB was acquired. These were part of a completed set of playtests and they will not return.
I know they have said they are not going to add UA stuff. I was there to express my disappointment when they announced they stopped incorporating UA into Beyond a few years ago.
However, I would like to see UA being reincorporated into Beyond again, so I am expressing my wants and desires so Wizards may reconsider. I know UA is free as a PDF, but I would not mind paying for it if it means I can save myself the hassle of using the homebrew tools.
I have the physical book already, i just want the subclasses, feats, background but unfortunately one cannot buy those seperate like other dnd beyond releases.
This is wonderful! I bought the campaign setting right away!
However, it is not showing up in my character generator. Is this a glitch or did I forget to do something?
-Jay
I don't own the Tal'dorei setting but if I was having that issue the first things I would do would be to make sure on the initial "Character Preferences" page of the Character Builder that I had clicked on "Critical Role Content" and, just to be safe, also "Noncore D&D Content".
It's also possible there is a lag with implementation and it has not been set up for the character creation functions yet on DDB, I have not read anything either way on that.
It does seem weird that we can't buy things separately or in groups such as just the Magic Items.
But yeah, this is an absolute EPIC WIN to have on the site!

This is likely because it’s 3rd party. Wizards can sell their own stuff piecemeal if people want it that way. I’m sure the legal red tape around doing that for the taldorei book is deep.

I mean, I guess. I don't know the ins and out of these sorts of arrangements, but I don't see why they couldn't negotiate whatever percentage of proceeds CR gets for this book, and apply the same rate to proceeds from piecemeal sales. I'm pretty sure CR is well aware of DDB's business model and I'd be surprised if someone slammed their first in the table with a "No! Beyonder Critters only buy the whole book, or none of it! We're not going to let you WotC surgical butchers carve up our genius like every other product you put on here." I mean those words could have been said, but I doubt it. I want to say Mercer's videos about DMing and commenting on CR as teachable moments for DMs introduced a lot of DMs to the "toolbox" concept where he encourages folks, if they see something they like, to take it. I don't think there's any product integrity issue by extension, so it's sort of strange it wasn't set up through a simple sale of all proceeds coming from the book whether as a whole or in pieces.

I have the physical book too. Do they manage to give a redeem key or something similar? I'd like to add the contents to my Exandria Campaign

It's just like every other physical WotC book outside of one starter set. Hardcopy D&D books do no give access to the DDB tools unless bought as a bundle, which doesn't seem to be available in the marketplace for this book.
I did notice that Tal Dor'eil or however it's typed does have a new "3rd Party" tag, so that's more hope that they're just getting started on this front. Will everything 5e players want from 3PP eventually show up in DDB, hard to say. I do see this as WotC/DDB working on a system with an already trusted partner, CR, so that DDB can make itself more available to 3PP with the launch of the new remastered whatever they're call One D&D's final product.
Frankly, I'm a little curious. Since CR uses DDB, it's presumable a lot of what's in the book was already in someone's personal homebrew. Was the process a matter of DDB just taking the text into their compendium editor and system wide adopting CR's house homebrew under paid content? What I'm saying is the fact that this has happened, I feel, is exciting for the community. I think the "how" may be equally exciting, and maybe helpful for WotC/DDB since it seems they only really get to talk about their internal processes this year when there's been some sort of controversy. This is opportunity to look good.
Yep, these options are available in the Character Builder after you buy the book; you just need to enable Critical Role Content under Character Preferences > Partnered Content.
While I'm excited about what this means both for Critical Role and for DnDBeyond as a broader storefront, I can't help but hope they have some errata coming for this book. The subclasses could use another quick pass in the editing / development room.
For what it's worth, it's offering me a small discount (from $29.99 down to $26.99) which I assume is a Legendary Bundle discount. Unfortunately they don't seem to be providing the ability to buy individual content like subclasses/magic items/monsters/etc.; hopefully that's something DDB will enable later. But it's a great book with lots of fun character creation options and I highly recommend folks pick it up if they're at all interested in the Exandria setting.
+100. Please allow individual content purchase asap. I already own the physical book and do not need a digital copy. But will gladly pick up the monsters, classes, spells, etc that I want to use in my games.

Or you could do anything possible to financially patronize Darrington Press and show WotC that you are fully committed to supporting 3PC on this platform and purchase the full sourcebook here.
Is it considered official? As my DM mostly prefers official things. Not that there is anything in it for my character. But perhaps another in the group wants it
It's "officially," or rather functionally, treated as all the other "Critical Role Content," so in the same class as the Bloodhunter, the Wildmount book, Netherdeep, etc. Critical Role Content is an optional toggle one can enable or turn off in the character builder. Whether your DM considers them Critical Role Content official or not is a conversation to have with your DM.
Critical Role is a bit of an odd duck in that it is affiliated with D&D Beyond, but the world was created by Matt Mercer and they have a team of writers separate from D&D and WotC who create their books. A good comparison would be Dragonlance and the world of Krynn, which was also created as a homebrew setting for a group of friends to play D&D. The difference being that the Dragonlance content was published by TSR (later acquired by WotC) and is considered an "official" D&D setting and the Critical Role content is owned by Critical Role Productions, the publishing label being called Darrington Press and so it is not technically "official". But I consider that to be splitting hairs. Plenty of people have unpublished homebrew settings.
I'm not a fan of the setting, nor WOTC as an entity, but this is a good foot in the right direction as far as I'm concerned. I hope it continues and maybe an even better footing could be the Print on Demand route for other (perhaps less popular (or profitable) settings - it works nicely for vinyl in my experience.

Yep, these options are available in the Character Builder after you buy the book; you just need to enable Critical Role Content under Character Preferences > Partnered Content.
