If you were a level 3 Human/Variant Human D&D character build in real life, what would it be? I'd personally go for a wizard.
NO HOMEBREW, Must be a Human or Variant Human (because, you're human, right?) You can't level up. Sorry, your stuck with this build for life. Choose wisely.
I had a DM do that 40+ years ago but at L6. ( monk 3/ranger 3 in 1e) At level 3 today (40 years later and 5e) it still wouldn’t too much different: monk1/ranger1/wizard 1.
This. It's my clear conviction that social skills and social interactions shape every aspect of our lives. So if you want to ... cheat at life, your cheat should make you better at social interactions.

Not sure about being Human honestly. At times I'm 100% sure I'm not the same Species even. Also, stuck at level 3, for life, no thanks Jumping off at the next stop.

Considering the average person goes their whole entire lives without ever even gaining a single level in any class, 3rd level is being pretty generous.
either eloquence bard, or swashbuckler rouge(im not a criminal). for feat i would probably pick up..... magic initiate, get me some Eldrich Blast. i dont belive the dark gifts in van richtens have any level requirement, so im picking up..... Livng Shadow. all together now, I've got friends on the oth---er--- SIDE!!!!!
edit. realized i should expound on what i can do now. 1st i have the rizz, im always average or above at persuasion, 2nd. i can do bardic inspiration, 3rd i can pick up some cool bard spells, 4th, if that fails i can eldrich blast(that's legal right?) 5th, i can punch someone from 15(15!) ft away, then dissapeer into a crowd. MUA-HA-HA-HA! 6th. i can cast mage hand from my shadow, freeing up a cantrip slot

Do we use the stats we think we'd have in real life, or can we point buy/roll the stats and our real life attributes become these - so could we make ourselves smarter or more charismatic or stronger, etc?
Because my real life stats would suck immeasurably to a point that any and all class choices would be very close to pointless.
EDIT
Since you said D&D character build, I figured use D&D stats so I went Point Buy.
Used Tasha options to replace "Common +1 choice" languages, will add English and Welsh to sheet.
Skill: Investigation
Feat: Magic Initiate (Wizard) (Prestidigitation, Mage Hand and Unseen Servant)
Background: Witherbloom Student, so I add healing spells as possible selections and get the witherblood strixhaven initiate feat which lets me cast spells: Druidcraft, Spare the Dying and Create or Destroy Water. The Survival and Nature proficiencies are useful. For the language I went with Latin because it seems interesting.
Class Sorcerer - Shadow Magic
No, not trying to go edgelord. Seeing in the dark without needing light is gonna save on electric bills. I'm rather nocturnal anyway so if I wanted to go for a walk at night, it's nice being able to see. Being able to summon darkness cloud only I can see in could help me if somebody tries to mug me or something. Strength of the Grave can possibly save me from something fatal, and I do like being able to survive.
I chose Sorcerer over my usual wizard just because I'd get more cantrips which I think are more useful in daily life than the limited uses per day of levelled spells.
Class Proficiencies: Persuasion and Intimidation to help in social situations be it convincing somebody to help me or to leave me alone.
Metamagic: Distant and Subtle.
Cantrips: Dancing Lights, Mending, Minor Illusion, Shape Water
I think with the limits this gives me something very useful for modern life while staying casual and keeping things fun. A subtle-spell minor illusion or prestidigitation will be super entertaining for pranks and shiz 'n' giggles, and the water spells with presti' satisfies all my cola cravings without the harmful sugar. Presti' clutchin' again in keeping me warm, flavouring healthy food as something that actually tastes good and more such things.

Strength: a 10 strength is supposed to be “average” and a 20 is supposed to be human maximum so … a quick we search says average is somewhere between 100 and 200 pounds 45-90 kilos) so call it 150# for a 10. Max is about 1000 pounds (500 kilos) for a 20. So each +1 would be about an extra 100 pounds of lifting/carrying capacity. Dexterity: ok this one is hard as it covers both manual dexterity and whole body dexterity. If we use Olympic gymnasts as max we still have to define “average”. What ever we say average is those who study movement balance object manipulation are certainly above average to some extent. So if you do card tricks, martial arts, dance or have a theatrical background you should be above average to a greater or lesser extent. Constitution: if a 10 is supposed to represent an average mideveal person’s constitution then we moderns are almost always above average ( unless we have some sorts of medical issues) given the better diets, vaccines etc. Intelligence: while it has all sorts of problems IQ can provide at least a rough scaling. 100 is average, 200 is max so a 10 = a 100 IQ and a 20 = a 200 IQ. Given that in D&D intelligence represents “book smarts” while wisdom covers more “common sense” sorts of smarts this works fairly well. If you have an advanced degree you probably have an above average intelligence, for that matter just being a D&D player may mean that. Wisdom: to me this “common sense and “problem solving” both very subjective. I have no real way to quantify this I just know some folks are worth listening to and others you take whatever they say and do the opposite. Maybe the best clues are if the person is successful and happy with their life Their wisdom is probably pretty high. Charisma: interpersonal interactions. Again very hard to quantify but we all recognize the differences between high and low. Taylor swift and Trump both clearly have high charisma even if you appreciate how they use it.
you sort of have to juggle comparing mideveal to modern in some places as well. They did a lot more physical stuff than most of us do so we might actuallyAverage around an 8 strength but our constitutions are probably more like a 12 average due to modern medical developments. Most of us have a lot more book learning than folks in the past so that may raise our average intelligence a little. We also deal with a lot more situations and people than a standard D&D “peasant”/commoner so our wisdom scores and charismas may average a bit higher. my take on stats: the “average” modern person probably has: S)8/9, D) 10, Con) 12, I) 11, W) 11, Ch) 10/11 with sports and gym activities raising strength, martial arts, dancing gymnastics all raising Dex. A +1 to +4 for college and grad school as well as major areas boosting Intel. Moves, traveling, career changes etc all. Boosting wisdom and charisma.
(this is not "how I would build myself"; D&D isn't very good for realistic builds. this is "what options I think would be best, of the set of fantasy tropes")
No D&D isn’t ideal for creating or recreating our real world selves or even idealized versions but it’s what we have.one of the main problems is that most of what we have is skills and or feats not class/subclass abilities. 5e also has the problem that it uses lots of languages and a surprising amount of musical/instrumental skills that are not major components of most folks modern experience. Things like going through gym classes from. First through twelfth grades should be good for at least half proficiency in athletics and probably full proficiency. If you were a bully’s target in school you probably have the alertness feat as a survival mechanism. Proficiency isn’t really “ can you do this like a top tier professional “ but much more “ can and have you made money with the skill/ability”. So to make most of us you need to throw away the skill and feat rules and allow for a much broader selection of both skills and background feats.
Definitely Fey Touched Moon Druid for me. Simple build, but I can talk with and become some animals. I'm a teacher, so always have snacks with my goodberry trail mix. Cure wounds to help out if kids get hurt. Lesser Restoration for the sick kids or the occasional hangover Saturday mornings. That fey touch misty step would come in really handy at recess time.

i would multi class 3 ways wizard whose got a great cantrip list druid for wild shape and paladin for lay on hands pool
That's actually a great Idea. And IRL you don't need a lot of power, so I love your concept.

Level 1 Wizard, Level 1 Aberrant Mind Sorcerer, Level 1 Twilight Cleric Subclass to get a ton of cantrips and some great abilities.

Probably Eloquence Bard, with the Chef feat (since I used to be one).

Well, you only have 3 levels and it takes two in druid to wild shape. are you dropping wizard or paladin?
For me, Druid (Maybe moon shape even though in game, I play stars druid). Maybe magic initiate (cleric or wizard) to get more cantrips.
Interesting that we are V humans and nobody chose a feat. :)

Variant Human, Skill Expert feat
STR10 DEX13 CON10 INT16 WIS16 CHA10 (point buy, variant human, skill expert)
Rogue 1, Artificer 2
Some cantrips are nice, but a pile of skills, expertise, and infusions are nicer for the modern world.
