Dude, first off, I'm not sure why you seem so hellbent on proving this very large group of people wrong here. Secondly, I promise you there were multiple places that stated digital got early access. Do you think all of these people, in addition to the reputable 3rd party sites, are lying?
As far as your wayback screenshots are concerned, these look to be from DnD Beyond but if you purchased it before the switch, you would be directed to the DnD site. This is where it stated early access was a perk for digital only.
Trust me, I wouldn't have pre-ordered this through them if it wasn't for the promise of early access.
The featured items list wouldn't necessarily show an early access date in place of the actual release date, so that's not at all conclusive. Besides, I didn't order through the featured items listings, and made my decision to order based on the stated pre-order benefits listed on the product information page. Presumably, the early access information that other people clearly recall was also on the product information page, not a list.
I also pre-ordered the digital only version under the assumption that I would get early access. I could have sworn it said early access for digital as well. I wouldn’t have pre-ordered the digital version if I didn’t get early access. I feel that if you pre-ordered anything for this book you should get early access. Some people don’t need the book or vice versa. This was a cash grab and doesn’t feel right. Kind of feel taken advantage of, especially since they didn’t put a big disclaimer that digital only wasn’t receiving early access. Some may not agree, but not having a disclaimer on there is the same is deliberately not putting one on there. Somebody made a mistake. Oh well, 14 more days I guess. Lame.

I get frustrated when the goalposts constantly change. People keep asking for earlier captures etc. I do not think people are lying but the previous process was complex and if you wanted digital only, then the Wizards site would track back to D&D Beyond. It is entirely possible that folks saw early access on the bundle page, chose digital and then went back to Beyond to purchase thinking that the early access was carried over. You could not purchase digital only from the Wizards site. You only purchased from Wizards if you were ordering the bundle. You then had to get the code and walk it back to Beyond to get your digital copy. The bundle process always stunk and getting the code was awful and you never got confirmation from Beyond that you had a code pending so I was always worried my digital would not unlock.
I think that there are a ton of valid criticisms for the marketplace change; however, in this instance, I can find zero proof that digital only preorders had early release. I can find multiple instances of the physical + digital preorder as far back at mid-February granting early release.
Did you get the pre-adventure (Vecna: Nest of the Eldritch Eye) if you ordered digital only? That had a $4.99 value. I know that came free with the bundle too.
Ok. The earliest I can find is from February 14. It states available May 7 for digital preorders. This is a wayback capture so it would not be changed after the fact.
So originally digital pre-orders early access for 7th May, but between 14th Feb and 7th March that seems to have been dropped. That's grossly unfair if that's the case and DDB needs to start honouring its promises, even if made in error.
If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.

Yes, it unlocked on 17th April (or something like that).
There was also some confusion on weather or not digital only got frames et al. Still looking for the thread to link about that.
Yes, they unlocked the instant you pre-ordered. Mine aren't working though.

I'm not saying anybody is wrong about the digital pre-order being early access I just want to note the WotC store has never offered digital only products, which is what the screenshot is of. The WotC store could only order physical books or physical + digital bundles. All digital only orders were handled through D&D Beyond.
This has always been the case. There has never been a moment in the history of either site where WotC store offered digital only products for 5e and D&D Beyond has never redirected you to WotC store for such.

Actually, that was my typo. Digital on Feb. 14 says May 21.
I placed my order on 7 March 2024. It was to come with access on 7 May 2024. I know that was not the normal rule or the current rule as of today for Digital Only, two months later. It was however what was advertised when I purchased it. I am sure of that or I would not have got it then.
This reminds me of that family down the road that beat their kids every night 50 years ago. Calling the police or other authorities did not accomplish anything, it was legal back then. Moving was the only solution so my kids did not have to hear it or think that was acceptable behavior since nothing could be done to stop it then. It left a bad taste in my mouth for a long time.
I have that taste in my mouth again. I stayed after the last public relations incident after Hasbro and Wizards promised they would never symbolically “hit their kids again”. I am now hearing otherwise in their Discord, in their locally forums and elsewhere. Perhaps trusting them again was a mistake. Who made this decision? The outgoing leadership, the incoming? Was it made lower? At what level was it made?
Once there was statement made by WOTC "We are sorry. We got it wrong." Perhaps that ability to admit mistakes has left with so many of the senior staff. The answers to this, except by one lone brave employee, seems to indicate so. Will there be an answer by leadership in the public forum? What kind of leadership shall we have? I understand refunds are occurring for those who apply. I am thinking about it. I am also thinking how far back those refunds can go…
Will this post stay up? As Godfrey of Ibelin speaks in the movie Kingdom of Heaven: Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death.
Not sure now what I am going to do with the large party coming to my home that I have been running with a step into Eye this Sunday in 4 days. Neither am I sure what I am going to do with Wizards...their response to this shall matter in both situations I think. Hope for the best, plan for the worst...
Unfortunately, it was never confirmed about the early access and early access was mentioned on the bundle page. The moderator said the "extras" were included but folks were asking about the dice and adventure rather than the early access.
Wizards should be dinged on the poor communication alone that left so many items unclear.
Personally, I think that early access for the bundle is a good call. You often have to wait for shipping of the book that arrives after release day and it encourages people to buy both. I am not sure why early access would be a perk of digital only but that is just my opinion.

Because you've already paid for the product without so much as seeing it, it's ready to be released and the alternative is that they're denying access to the paid-for product to pressure you into buying something else.

My issue with the wayback machine captures is that none of them show the preorder bonuses. Not even the ones that you for sure get with the digital only preorder, such as the frames and backdrops for the character creator. Nowhere in the description are preorder bonuses listed, which is weird.

Correct we all got screwed with marketplace change, digital pre orders did say May 7th early access prior to the change over.

To bad they can’t mirror Larian and Arrowhead and actively be involved with the community and admit mistakes publicly.
