So, I may be dumb and not understanding. Are these new rule books required to play now? Like, what if I want to still play 5e, will these books completely replace the old 5e books (PHB, DMG, MM)? Will I have to buy these to be able to play still?
They're not required, no. You can use the old books just fine. The new books are an option for people who want them. The new books do completely replace the old ones, but only for players/tables who want to use them.
The new books are effectively a remaster of the original 5e books. The two exist at the same time. if you prefer the older books, nothing's stopping you from using those, instead.
Depends on your table. If they're playing the 2024e rules, then you'll need them. If they're playing 2014e rules, then you won't. If you're the DM, you get to pick.

I’d like to say no, but then we have a statement from the company that basically says that character creation is completely different, and only the ability to play as ether a 5e built char or a 6e built char in adventures is the extent to the compatibility between both.
Given that, the bigger question is will this site still support 5e character generation? Or will the community be given a choice of which edition they might wish to use in that character creation?
( A video posted in another thread on the new rules books did say the ability to “mix and match generation mechanics” was [ I interpreted it as impossible ] different based on the way the new rules had been designed, and therefore incompatible as far as character creation was involved)
So basically when 6e happens, DNDbeyond will no longer support 5e character creation?
No. People will rant and holler and sky-is-falling Doom Prophecize this because they're fishing for an excuse to be furious at Wizards for trying to sell books, but no.
At worst, the 2014 books will go Legacy. Frankly I don't know if this will be the case, but if you currently have access to the 2014 books you will not lose that access. We have no Official Announcement about how this will work yet, but I very strongly suspect that character creation will have a toggle - when you click "Create Character", the first choice you get will be "create a 2014 Core Rules Character" or "Create a 2024 Core Rules Character". It's kinna the only logical way to do it.

This isn't a 6th edition, either; folks are gonna call it what they're gonna call it: 5.5e, 5th edition revised/remastered/remixed, whatever, but this is still 5th Edition.

I really do hope your right on them adding a character creator toggle, it really would be the smart choice for them to make.
As it stands now, nothing’s changed. But, with a new 3d VTT by WotC coming out, it does beg the question of just how will DDBeyond the site work with the new VTT.
So, I'm not sure if I understand the compatibility thing even after reading the FAQ...
For example, if the 2024 Core Rulebooks don't feature a subclass that is already released for 5e, e.g. if in the 2024 PHB Wizard gets, Evocation, Illusion, Transmutation and Conjuration subclasses. What happens if I want to play a wizard character based on 2024 ruleset but with a Necromancer subclass. Is it still possible or do I have to wait for some free update or another book to buy the updated subclass ruleset? Do I somehow apply 5e Necromancer subclass ruleset to Wizard class 2024 ruleset?

Best guess for me personally is wait and see first what is in the new PHB. No real idea on how character creation will work in the new rules, so three months till we officially know.
As I understand it, the idea behind this... thing, is that it's basically like a big errata for the rules and/or consolidation of extent rules; as such everything everyone has bought at this point is still valid, it's just that the new book will have different mechanics for stuff like character creation (IE where your Attributes come from).
If I'm starting a campaign right now, can I buy the new books and easily have players convert/rebuild their characters for the 2024 edition? Will premade campaigns (e.f. Phandelver and beyond) be compatible too? Or will I have to convert all the monsters too?
i would guess, campaigns are environments. so you can drop in characters from either the 14 or 24 rules without many mechanical issues, if any.
monsters in the adventures also have included stat blocks, so they wont need a change. now a DM may want to some manual re-balancing, especially if the 24 characters show more power during the adventure. but the overall narratives and base mechanics aren't going to change that much. so raw mechanics should work just fine, it's more finesse things that a DM will have to be aware to look out for.
as for converting existing characters, who knows. my gut says 'no' short of rebuilding them from the start. but there hasn't been any announcement in that regard.
As these books are coming soon some clarification from Wizards on how the ruleset will update at DnDBeyond. Will they run parallel or will they be updated and changed?
