I wanted to reach out to the community here and see if anyone had an answer as I sent a ticket in asking and haven't heard back in a few days. I purchased the full physical and digital bundle for the new core books but only $72 of the $196 has been taken out of my account. Anyone know why? I can't see listed anywhere that they are only doing partial charges. I wanted to pay for this all in full rather than keep money set aside to withdraw anywhere from here to the last book being released next year. Can anyone confirm?
It's probably to do with the rules they have to deal with from the credit card companies. In a lot of cases, you only get charged when the thing you ordered actually ships. Since the DMG and MM are further back in the pipeline, they could still slip schedule if there's a problem with the printer or something.
(It might instead have something to do with WotC's internal accounting, but I'd bet on the former.)
If that were the case, you'd expect 1/3rd to be taken, instead it's slightly more. Who knows.

my math might be wrong, but i figured the first charge for me was for the physical PHB and all 3 digital products (plus tax). Because while digital content is not available, they can still credit the licenses to your account.
I assume my future charges will be for when the physical DMG and MM finally ship.
Rough math suggests you were charged for the PHB + tax + shipping, but I can confirm that you won't be charged for the other two books until they ship.

You'd think there would be some fine print somewhere. We're getting the bundled price now but won't be charges for book 2 or book 3 till they ship. I have the money now and who knows what MY financial situation will be in 3 or 6 months and I get hit with that ~$40 charge???

Is this stated ANYWHERE in the marketplace or even on the purchase receipt we get? I went all the way up through the payment screen with no notice that the 2nd and 3rd books would not be charged until a later date.
No it's not started anywhere in marketplace, receipt or during checkout process. I got messaged back by WotC but only to say they have a high volume of inquiries and will get to me soon. I don't want to have remember to set aside money 3 months to 6 months from now. This has definite got to be a WotC thing. When I purchase my WoW expansion preorder it's all up front, not on release date or the new Talisman edition lol.
I think I figured it out...they charged for the three digital books (3x$29.99) less the discount (3x$7.5) for $67.47+Tax. That gets the charge in the right neighborhood for the amount I saw on my credit card. That means we can expect additional charges of around $37.5+Tax ($49.99-$12.49 discount) before the release of each of the printed books.

It shouldn't have to take a committee to crunch the numbers to figure out that THEY ARE GOING TO CHARGE OUR CREDIT CARDS AT A LATER DATE WITHOUT SO MUCH AS A NOTICE.
So it is confirmed. As Aephix and Mairondil said, WotC confirmed that they indeed only charged for the digital books and that they would charge the other books at a later date. Which they stated they can give no estimate or guaranteed date WHEN those charges would happen. They are getting ridiculous. Ever since WotC took over, this place is nosediving. I cancelled my order and will obtain the physical books elsewhere and to hell with the digital. They already got ride of a la carte items and now this. I would rather go back to old school pen and paper then deal with DnD Beyond any longer.
It feels like the folks at WotC have made a game of terrible communication. This would have been very easy to explain up front, and given how slow their CS responses are (I sent a question weeks ago with no response) it would have made a lot more sense.
Edit: To give credit where due, I finally heard back from CS , it just took them two weeks to respond.

The whole bundle is 179.99 and depending on the state sales tax comes in around $185. It looks like they waived shipping for the cost of the order.
The individual costs on the books / digital are 49.99 and 29.99 x3. Now with the $60 discount, lets assume that comes to 60/6 = $10 off each price so 39.99 and 19.99 respectively.
Now I got charged ~$67 at the point of sale when my charge went through, this doesn't jibe with the notion that I only got charged for the PHB physical & digital because the $7 discrepancy is more tax than my receipt shows I should have been charged for the whole bundle. Since the shipping is showing waived on the receipt, if the discount is applied equally, it should be like $62.
Now, I have seen a new charge this week of approximately ~$40. This doesn't conform to the pricing of the next book, the DMG. So this has confused the issue.
When I paid for the bundle, the payment screen did not give me any indication that this payment was going to be parceled out into multiple payments, and my receipt in the new marketplace does not indicate that it is being paid out in multiple payments. So, it looks nefarious because I have no way of tracking which of these payments apply to the original total of 179.99 + tax. I am going to have to watch carefully to match up these payments to ensure that I am not overcharged due to the way they are handling it.
The least we can get is an official statement from management on what is up here. The way this payment is being processed without due notification is pretty unprofessional and gives the impression of potential malfeasance.
It happened to with the core book and now with my DM guide. Got the bundle both times. Paid for what the receipt said, but then an hour later $53.49 got taken out of my card without warning or telling you what it is. My card tells me when money is taken out by text. It happened again yesterday. It was supposed to be on sale by being preordered. The money for what's on the receipt was taken out of my account, then an hour later I got $44.49 taken out of my card. This is after everything was paid. Why after paying in full do I get this mysterious charge. Made a ticket and was told that maybe part of the charge was clearing. The thing is this extra large charge comes an hour after the full order already cleared. This is definitely some kind of ghost charge. Why was I not told I was gonna pay that much money after what I was supposed to pay already cleared.

Other people have noticed the same.

Except that is not really a definitive answer.
