I've been reading through AI as it's interesting, and just got to Franchise Downtime activities. On the table for the first one Exploration Discoveries, it's broken down into results by your roll, with the final set being for a roll of 31+. HOWEVER, in the preceding paragraph it states you can only get up to a +10 for the roll (presumably using a d20 as I don't see any mention of die type), meaning the best you could EVER roll is a 30. Is there something I'm missing? Is this a typo in the book?
It’s a survival check, so it’s the d20, plus wisdom, plus proficiency (or expertise) plus possibly a bonus of up to 10. If your survival modifier is +9 or +10, you could roll a max of 39 or 40...
The capped bonus is for the extra stuff you can do:
cartographer or occultant present
each week of exploring
additional gold to baseline expenses
The expedition director has a Wisdom of 16 and expertise in proficiency with a proficiency bonus of +4 (+11 to survival total) The franchise is Rank 2 and there is a cartographer on the expedition. The expedition is for 8 weeks and 1000 gp was spent for baseline expenses The additional bonuses would then be
+7 for expedition length (8 weeks, +1 per week after the first)
+2 cartographer present
+3 additional baseline bonus (400gp base, +1/200GP above that
this is what caps at +10. So the expedition director would roll 1d20 + 11 + 10.
And in this case the expedition would either want to spend less or explore for less.
