I enjoy playing any of the really fantastical races, as that's usually what I'm looking for in my D&D game. Aarakocra, dragonborn, warforged, loxodon, tortles, grung, firbolgs, kobolds, tabaxi...give me characters that are NOTHING like me!

Have you ever seen the races from the Ork’s Head Peninsula of the Savage Coast from the OD&D world of Mystara? That’s where Tortles originated (that world is also where the Precursors to the Tabaxi originated as well), and a race called the “Manscorpions,” a race of half man/ half giant scorpions just as the name implies. Also the home of winged Elves and a race of shape shifting spider people called the Aranea (if I spelled that incorrectly I’m sorry). If you haven’t seen them you should check out those old supplements and campaign boxes.
Drow, I blame Bob Salvatore, and I mean that in the Best way.

Warforged for me. I play rogue a lot, and the warforged envoy's integrated tool ability is just perfect for a rogue.
So your favorite race was the UA warforged, not the official one. I really liked the warforged envoy too (though I do like the new integrated protection feature). I also miss the UA versions of the dragonmarked races and changeling.
ah yes, remember back in the day when almost every race from eberron had tool expertise for some unknown reason? good times, would be fun if dragonborn got it to reflect their lore or if at least the prodigy feat allowed you to get some tool expertise

i am soup, with too many ideas (all of them very spicy) who has made sufficient homebrew material and character to last an thousand human lifetimes
warforged are fun, (UA warforged envoys are especially fun but they are no longer legal), variant humans are the most powerful and veratile race ever, tieflings can similarly be almost anything, if you want to play as an beast master ranger its almost manditory to play an halfling so you can benefit greatly from your medium mount, and they too are versatile, all the dragonmark races are really fun for playing unexpected character concepts, maybe an mark of shadow paladin with illusion magic, maybe an kundarak dwarf who just really ****s up every lock he sees at level 6 when he has guidance, gloves of thievery knock spell, tool expertise and special infused thives tools that are attached to his armor using the new UA, an mark of handling human that picks up any spellcasting class to cast conjure animals (especially nature cleric and conjuration wizard)
really any class that is versatile or adds an great amount of versatillity is just verry fun

Love me a Warforged, but the Simic Hybrid is definitely up there too. Always had a soft spot for Aasimar and Genasi too.
These are the top for me:
Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:

Halfling for sure. I do like the idea of the genasi tho. if it had better stats and abilities.
Elves, gnomes, dragons.
I love pretty much all of the Eberron-specific races: changelings, warforged, shifters, kalashtar are all really cool.
My top 5:
