Counterspell Unless people can cast spells, what spell are ya gonna counter?

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.

Sometimes a parent doesn't want to have to walk across the room and slap their child across the head for being naughty. Fling a slipper at them instead!
(Useful spell but with the enemy getting such lucky rolls, I have come to detest this spell!)
find traps is more useless in game than it would be in RL.
Read the text: the 5e version doesn't reveal the traps, it just let's you know whether traps are present or not.
In RL this could come in handy to avoid speed traps & shady political promises.
Yeah I mean there are plenty of smart phone apps that tell you about speed traps. Does a shady political promise count? If so, find traps would be really useful in game.

You can do that in D&D too you know. The difference is Magic Stone increases the Damage Die and counts as Magic.
It's sort of useless to have a magic rock in real life. People don't have resistance to non-magic, so it probably won't help on that side.
It would still hurt more. Like using a spoon instead of an axe to cut someone’s heart out.
To be honest, I was more focused on the comedy aspect in my head of using your limited magical knowledge to essentially throw a pebble harder than normal.

Unless the Astral Plane really exists, which it must for the spell to exist, in which case it would be just as useful as in D&D. This is the problem with a lot of the 'most useless' assumptions. They ignore the implications of there being spells in the real world at all....
Right. If there are no other planes, we can rule out plenty of spells right away: blink, etherealness, gate, any conjuration spell that summons an outsider, any divination spell that requires contacting another plane, and Warlock-only spell (granted by an otherwordly being), and I'm not going to touch the existence of gods...
Communication spells like Sending are pretty useless in a world with cell phones.
For those that believe in Heaven and Hell or any form of afterlife, this spell would be pretty amazing. Being able to communicate with a lost loved one could bring about a lot of peace.
In the case of kidnappings or murder victims, you could have a higher chance to save the child or discover who the killer was.
Remove Curse can possibly have some use. We get hundreds of pounds of soil, rock, and plant matter mailed back to our state because of cursed item or bad luck.
Protection From Evil and Good Those who know or have experienced events might feel more comfortable with a little protection.
If you believe, you believe.

wishceremony because of the cost, as well as not having many effects that are independent of other magic
Magic Stone - Just throw a rock.

Disagree here. Atonement could be useful for rehabilitation in criminal justice. Of course what an alignment means IRL is a big can of nasty worms.

Land mines. It would save more lives globally than you would ever imagine.

Good point. But it would only be able to detect the presence of mines, not their location. You'd still need to expend the resources to de-mine.
If it warns one child anywhere in the world away from a landmine it’s worth it.

Astral projection is sort of useless as well.
Right. Bark isn't the strongest thing, so barkskin's probably pretty useless
As it is in game.
Barkskin only lasts an hour and requires concentration, so the first time you get hit, you can lose concentration.
