Under the compendium options, you have the PHB plus the basic rules. What does buying the PHB give that's not in the basic rules?
Considering that the basic rules covers everything in the PHB minus the specific subclasses, feats, and spells, and those can be purchased individually, I'm not sure what's left for the player's handbook portion of the compendium.
I have the physical book, so I mainly just want to unlock the specifics so I can digitally build my characters. Is buying the piecemeal portions of PHB my best option?
When I added up the prices of the pieces of the PHB, they equaled almost the entire price of the PHB ($29 pieces combined vs $30 whole thing), so I just bought the whole thing.
If you want to get more specific, and buy specific subclasses, races, etc, then I'd recommend that as it would be cheaper.
Huh... When I put everything in my cart, I'm only getting $26. I already have all the races unlocked, minus 2 subraces - Drow and Forest Gnome, which is $3. From the link you showed, all the races are $6.
At worst, I just pay the extra $4 later if I want the extra compendium stuff from the PHB.
