Really excited to get to using it, but the load times are i-can't-use-this slow. I'll be moving a long building a character and then nothing, no response. Just a "D&D Beyond" and a partly filled circle that never processes.
Unfortunately, there is an issue currently with some spellcaster classes, that is causing large delays for the character builder. The problem has been identified and I expect this to be resolved before long.
I suggest selecting a background before choosing a class—the backgrounds usually give specific equipment and proficiencies, while the classes usually let you choose. You don't know how these overlap until you have the background. (Personally, I like the order—race, ability scores, background, class—because it models the history of a person's life, and requires the least backtracking.)
In character generator class step before abilieties step is not good. In class step you decide for example feats and some feats have abilitie prerequisites so you should have your abl set when generating class.
That is how it is listed in the Players Handbook, which is more than likely why it is set up that way in the builder (starting on PHB p.11). Race, then class, then ability scores, etc.
Create a Monster gives me access to the demon lords from Out of the Abyss, not sure if that was intended. Also I noticed that some monsters don't have their senses displayed. One last thing, is there an option to create a race like in the DMs guide?
1. In the skills section. There isn't any mention of advantages or disadvantages or any way to track them.
Ie. When wearing heavy armor your stealth skill is at disadvantage. Maybe have a section below that shows that? Or some marker on the skill itself?
2. Paladin channel divinity shows up twice when they have the ability only once per day?
3. Equipment like weapons don't include class features in the notes section but should. Ie. Great weapon fighting allows rerolls of a 1 or 2. Champion allows critical hits on a natural 19 or 20. Those abilities are in the SRD, but don't show up in the sheet attack area which makes the most sense.
Is there a problem with how weapon attacks are computed?
Made a paladin 2 then warlock 4 with 16 strength. And gave him a glaive +1. Sheet doesn't add in the proficiency bonus to hit but does add in the magic and strength bonuses.
Hey there Elkior - During the beta only Basic Rules (SRD) content is going to be allowed.
Right, I read that but if the builder allows me to pick a background, wouldn't all the backgrounds from the Player's Handbook be available? Aren't they Basic Rules? And for feats, Svirfneblin Magic, that's not basic rules is it?
The "Basic Rules" that the staff says does not refer to the Player's Handbook, but rather the free rules Wizards of the Coast has released to the public.
The content allowed in D&D Beyond so far includes those two, as well as free supplements (except for playtesting, such as Unearthed Arcana) that WotC has published. For the time being, if memory serves, this is only the Companion of the Elemental Evil campaign, here: https://dnd.wizards.com/products/tabletop-games/rpg-products/player%E2%80%99s-companion (this one includes the Svirfneblin thingy, page 7)
Are there plans to make skills and abilities clickable in-play? I.e. click your skill and the sheet makes a virtual roll? It would be nice to have a toggle for that, to accommodate people who like pushbuttons and those who prefer dice.
When I try to randomly generate a character it gives me the "loading" symbol. It continues to do so for as long as I leave the page alone (which has been over ten minutes at times). If I then click on my available characters, I see a new character, but when I try to click on him/her all I get is that "loading" symbol. Has anyone else had this issue?
Note, there is nothing wrong with my internet or the speed.

Excited by the new phases! Also getting this error. It seems to actually be generating the characters (per "My Characters") but not loading the sheets or letting edit. I got a "character sheet load error" once the loading had timed out. This seems to be only for the Quick Build and Randomised characters. Managed to create one just fine using "Standard" creator (which seems great).
I've been getting the same error in the Standard generator. It seems to be stuck on some equipment (like when adding multiple items).
I'm loving the builder, though I was a little bummed to start building my current warlock character only to find out that The Great Old One patron isn't an option. Will this be added in later iterations?

For the beta test, only material from the SRD and Basic Rules is available. The other official material will be added at the final release. The price for that is still to be announced.
Very Good. Even with SRD content, this should be handy enough to keep track of hit points and spell slots. at our game.
Good job to the dev team!

Hi Kilmarnok,
thanks for notifying us - I can see what the problem is and we'll get it fixed asap. :)

Have I missed something in the release notes?
Is there a reason the Personal Characteristics information isn't selectable and must be typed in?

Happy to see the builder is now available!
Tried it once and found several missing things. Here's two things I remember: not all basic backgrounds are available, and only 2 feats are listed.

This is great stuff! Appreciate all the hard work you all have done! And the Character Sheet on an iPhone 6+ rocks!
Very nice start!

Working with it last night in the area of Monk. Will we have that ability to select which bonuses fit best (DEX instead of STR) for weapons?

No love for the Drow? You left them out of the race selection in character build
