The amount of gripes and entitlement is amazing.
No. You will not get compensated for your hard cover book purchased X amount of years ago. New platform, new product form, NEW PAYMENT.
I'm seeing a lot of the basic table top and RPG QQ of "I want it but dont wanna pay that for it" Well tough luck. Hobbies are expensive, who'd have thunk it eh? I cant feel bad when i hear some one say 'i cant afford $6 bucks a month" when you have a group of 2-8 playing with you who can split the costs easily and if you cant well then hey, people are cheap and should find a new hobby that doesnt cost between $0.50 to $6 per month pending the split. And grabbing the digital books for a one time fee upon release is a no brainer for an entire group especially when you can share 12 separate accounts.
These people built a beautiful tool to help with the ushering in of the digital dnd age and ill i see is cheap skates dumping all over it and its actually really sad. The info they gave is the info we have.
BUY THE DIGITAL BOOKS or dont. GET A SUBSCRIPTION or dont. They built it and you pay for its service. Whats not to understand here?
"Dat deeeemon come callin'"
Xaviorious Queue'nn (Tiefling Warlock)
"Dat deeeemon come callin'"
Xaviorious Queue'nn (Tiefling Warlock)
That is true, however when I buy a bluray most times I get a digital version of the movie with a code.
What happens if I am in a campaign and I get a magic item from my dm, who owns it but I dont, and then that character plays in a different campaign? Would that character be able to use the magic item or would I then have to purchase the item?
25 pages of "why can't I get this" with responses of "because if you did "a" and got "x", you don't also get "y"" with responses of "well if i got "y", i get "z", so that should fly with this platform too"
Will it end?
Will the mods lose their shit?
Will the community implode?

Woof... not for me, 60 for the 3 main books is a good deal but I really hoped that those 3 would be included in the subscription fee and everything else piece by piece since most people using this already have those 3 books. 30 for new books is a nice deal though
Two questions I have not seen answered and would really like to:
1) If I have a la carte purchased classes/races/etc., and then decide I would like to purchase the book those features come from, will my previous purchases be accounted for in the purchase price of the full book? E.g., is this an iTunes situation (we see you've bought the Dwarf and Warlock classes. Would you like to purchase the rest of the Player's Handbook for $30 less the price of Dwarf and Warlock classes) or is this more a restaurant menu situation (e.g., you've bought the Dwarf and Warlock slices of pie, but if you want a WHOLE pie you'll have to pay $30 in addition to the amount already spent)
2) What does owning a "digital" and/or "offline copy" of the book mean? If I pay $30 for a PHB, and tomorrow the entire staff and management and servers of Curse gets hit by a meteor*, what happens to my copy? Please clarify. For example, Amazon has been known to take digital books off people's Kindles when the author's representative decided they weren't willing to keep up a digital presence for the book. Will DDB have the same policy?
Thanks.
*No harm intended or implied to any present or future employees, management, or server space of the company in question. Hypothetical question is hyperbolic. Usually I say "hit by a bus" for these sorts of hypotheticals, but that would be one hell of a bus!
looks awesome. cant wait to use this
Why so serious??
And I bet most of those books are in PDF or another file format that is in the public domain so there is no real risk of losing the content because your new computer update wiped the program and you can no longer download/activate it.
I have plenty of books/materials that while I own the CD and the registration code, it's useless because of the updates to computers no longer allow them to be installed and I dont want a dinosaur sitting around just to he able to use those old books.
I think there would be a lot less reservations if everything was in PDF where making copies would actually matter.
You're not being rude at all, that's true I was only pointing that out because of the VHS comparison being itself outdated, since movies actual do that now. Then right after I posted that I saw that 50 other people said the same thing so I'm sorry for being another on of the spammers with that one lol
What if I buy a master tier subscription and include "Bob" in my group of 12 players. Bob does not have a subscriptions of either kind. I know Bob gets access to all the digital, hyperlinked book content I've purchased. But does Bob get access to the digital tools and all of that content integrated into them?
In other words, is there any difference between my account and Bob's account in this scenario? If so, what is it?
