I'm really hoping that a lot of features of onenote eventually end up being similar in the campaign manager.
One of my favorite things about one note is you can take the player map from DDB and put it on a page, Then set the map to the background and add numbers over the top. The numbers hyperlink back to the locations, so when you click on the location it brings up the encounter.
OneNote is Microsofts version of note management app. EverNote is another popular app that works similarly.
The tagging that allows pop ups is cool on DDB but doesn't appear to transfer to 3rd party applications like OneNote.
OneNote and EverNote support hyperlinks and are designed to support a much more complex organizational framework. I track for example an entire campaign with session notes, NPC details, setting details, campaign arcs, random Pc Handouts, maps, images, character sheets, DM notes, cheat sheets, idea lists, attached PFFs and more. These tools allow you to tag and organize this content so that you can easily find it later. DDB is basically an RTF text box for notetaking,
I see, thank you for the reply and explanation :) From a guy who has been DMing the old pnp way up until basically now, DDB campaign writer is already something really useful and convenient, and I guess it will include more things that OneNote offers.
Just out of curiosity: how's the learning curve for OneNote? I mean, how much "studying" would one need to do on the platform to use it at the potential you described?

The biggest hurdle to one note is you get a massive blank paper to work on. Cryrid has put lots of templates down to help figure things out and there are some tutorials on doing things on you tube.
At base onenote brings nothing but a work space you can shape how you want. It takes a bit to get used to being able to type anywhere and it stays where you tell it too. You can learn collapsing stacks and tables later. Before DDB came out it was my go to planner and I would have recommended to anyone. I thought DDB would take over that role but the campaign manager isn't up to it. However seeing how they have taken feed back on the character builder and the latest mock-ups show they are listening to what people want, I think they will get there with the manager (It's just going to take a bit of time) Currently I think I will use onenote to store my game notes/maps/initiative tracker etc, and link to DDB for the monster/item information.
EverNote which is a competitor, can be easier to use. It's also available on almost all platforms, and like OneNote keeps everything in sync between devices and computers. It used to have a free account as well.
They should do a higher teir sub, say $10-20 a month and get access to everything. I would be down for this 100%. Or come up with a way to "import" the books i have already bought and paid more for. But paying $80 for the PHB to use in both places is way to much, and frankly annoying.
There is a way. Use the Basic Rules and input whatever else you need as private homebrew.

The cost of buying the PHB + DMG + MM is about $90. You can buy parts of the books a la cart, and each time you buy a portion of a book it goes towards the overall cost, so once you've paid the equivalent of the total book cost, you unlock the entire book. In this way you could buy $10 to $20 worth of book parts each month and unlock them in less than a year. By comparison, if you just paid a $10 to $20/month subscription, after 5 to 9 months you're paying more than the cost to buy those three books. Eventually you are throwing money away.
As for "importing" the books you already own, DDB is owned by Curse, which is owned by Twitch. They did not sell you your hardcopy books, WotC did. WotC does not own DDB.

What format is the digital content? If I purchase the players handbook do I get a PDF I can read anywhere?
No, the digital content is viewable only on this website. No PDF.
Not exactly correct. There is no PDF, but you can install the Beyond app and read all the books you have purchased on your mobile device. You can also access Beyond using your mobile browser and read the information that way.

That is correct, but you quoted a very old post of mine.

I am sorry about that. Your post was one of the last from the original wave and I did not realize that this was a resurrected horse.

Thats a great trick, thanks for sharing that!!!
I'll have to give that a try. Good idea.

This guy has done a lot of leg work to get it working in onenote and he has the basic rules in a note book you can download.

The Legendary Bundle should come with a 6-12 month subscription at the Master Tier. I think that would be a nice bonus.
Are we no longer allowed to use a discount code on a subscription?
It says that you should be able to quite clearly: https://dndbeyond.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115010814248-Promotional-Codes
