Irraxan doesn't see any other Purplewraths in the clearing.
Do you want him to fly on ahead and exit the clearing at the other end?

ooc: oh lol they seem to have no problem navigating within the forest, it is dim light due to the thick canopy overhead... probably darkvision?

(What is the ambush set up? Are they in a group which we could ambush ourselves if we sneak around in a wide circle? Or if we flew above and rained magic and fire on them?)
In the murky light that penetrates the canopy he's not sure how many there are in total but he can see 3 Purplewraths that are facing the lone one in the clearing and just waiting, there are several clumps of thick bushes and large trees that others could be hiding behind. The thick canopy above would offer some cover for them, but they don't seem concerned with being flanked. There are also several skeletons of small animals scattered about.

"I can't help thinking something is off. An ambush by plants? Hardly natural. But then those beasts before were hungry for magic, drawn to it. I am getting distracted. But... It's like there's something on the tip of my brain. Bah... Look, let's just get in there. No time to waste."
Their repeated assaults on the natives and hunting and preying on animals demonstrate a tendency to mobilize and organize. Signs of intelligence that is above average.

(we haven't tried talking to them yet, have we? Maybe someone should go in to the single plant to try to parlay. If it fails, we can still charge in and blast them to avernus)

Tempe after some weird sympathetic insight, shakes out of it and quietly says. "I think, they can see in the dark"
He waits quietly afterwards.

Yes. Out the other end. If there's nothing much to follow, he can do a spiral search pattern centred on the clearing.
In the meantime, Z passes on any useful information Irraxan finds to the party

Can anyone talk to plants? The natives must, sort of

OOC. Z has
"Awakened MindPHB, pg. 110
You can telepathically speak to any creature you can see within 30 ft. of you if it understands at least one language."
That might work

(I guess the question is: do plants speak some language?
If not, could we try doing some sign-language type things? Approach unthreateningly and put down arms? If so, what would we need to roll for?)
