Dapple approaches Polly seeing her discomfort. "Don't worry Polly," he says. "we don't eat the one's like Mr Bun here. They're very special. You've been taking very good care of him for me, thank you! Now I'm worried he'll like you more than me."
"I'm sorry!" Polly quickly handed Mr. Bun back to Dapple. "I didn't mean to!" Getting close to the Almiraj, Polly said, "He's your master. Not me. Got that?" Mr. Bun wiggles its nose at her.
"No, no, that's not what I meant, Polly. He likes you, I can tell. I'm not his master, or his owner - we're just... friends. I feed him and protect him and he keeps me company, that's all. He can stay with you if you want him to."
Polly hesitantly took back Mr. Bun, snuggling him close. "I have Mr. Piggles back home. Do you think they'll like each other?"
Dapple cocks his head, considering. "I don't know. Is he nice? Mr. Bun doesn't like mean or scary people. That must be why he likes you so much."
"Mr. Piggles is lazy," Polly giggled. "He makes a good pillow."
"Well that doesn't sound very scary. I bet they'll like each other in that case."
Polly grins widely. "Okay!" She then finds a place where she can sit and watch the ocean, while snuggling the horned bunny.
Dapple smiles and watches from a distance for a few minutes before getting some dinner for himself. He takes some of the rabbit, but supplements it with some rations so that everyone can get a share of the fresh meat that wants some. After dinner he offers to take a midnight shift of the watch, then spends time pacing up and down the beach, enjoying the chance to stretch his legs with the sea breeze ruffling his fur.
After a while Woe decides to help searching for food. She gets out her net and climbs down the cliff to the sea. She spends some time pulling the net through the water, but can only catch some small fish so close to the shore. She brings them back and asks Perrin to fry them over the fire for all to share. Then she'll take a bit of fish, but also eats some of her rations so all can share.
Dinner is served, a combination of rabbit, fish, and rations flavored to perfection by Perrin's cooking skills. It's the first fresh meal the Scarlet Dawn has had in days, and it hits the spot as camp is set up for the night. It's quiet here, but not the unsettling quiet of the island of Lantan they just came from. The stars shine bright and the sky is empty of clouds. It looks to be the perfect weather for their flight back to Baldur's Gate.
When morning comes, Grasalfan is up early. He's packing his tent and getting the flying machine ready for another two days of travel. "We're going to stick close to the shore, go around the Cloud Peaks, and straight into Baldur's Gate," he says. He rubs his hands eagerly, but the thought of being cooped up in the flying machine for another two days does not help to ease the party. The last two days of silent travel in the machine shows that everyone has questions they wish not to ask yet. There's concerns for the well-being of some, and although there's been no outward sign of trouble, everyone remains weary. The machine was already flying low with the weight of the group, compounded by the damage it took back on the island. All in all, though, its held together pretty well.
Once everyone is seated in the Flying Machine, Grasalfan lifts off and announces, "Next stop... Baldur's Gate!"
The Flying Machine whirls to life and takes off, flying over the massive forest and over the ocean. It continues throughout the day and through the night, but upon the morning of the second day, all sight is lost. "This must be around the Cloud Peaks," Grasalfan comments. The fog here is thick, and he assures everyone that if he keeps his current trajectory the machine should fly right by the mountains.
The flying machine rumbles through the fog as both Grasalfan and Perrin keep their eyes out for any indication of their position. Suddenly, a flash of white is spotted in the fog. "The hell was that?" Grasalfan asks Perrin. His question is soon answered as a roar, louder than the flying machine's engines, is heard from outside. Something explodes, and everyone is thrown to the right side of the Flying Machine.
"We're going down!!" Grasalfan yells, his face as pale as the scales he saw out of the cockpit window.
The loud roar causes Shanolia to jolt from her Trance and to her feet just in time to be thrown to the right side of the flying machine. At Grasalfan’s words, she grabs hold of whatever she can in order to steady herself while making sure her scabbards are strapped so none of her weapons will come loose on impact.
Dapple jerks to alertness at the sound of the roar from outside. He'd been dozing, idly running his claws through Polly's hair since it seemed to reassure her. Before he can do more, the blast throws him to the side, clutching at Polly as they slam together against the wall. At Grasalfan's shout, he wraps the girl up in his arms, trying to protect her from whatever comes next. He'd fallen out of the occasional tree and that could hurt enough - from this height, he knew it could be deadly.
Perrin, already being more on edge than normal due to fog, made sure to put his seatbelt on before anything happened and held tightly onto all of his gear and seat. When the impact came Perrin was ready and braces himself for the sudden jerk not moving much thanks to the seatbelt and being prepared didn’t have to regain his balance as the aircraft suddenly went left.
As Woe looks out of the cockpit, she sees something white, different from the surrounding fog. Scales, did I just see scales?!? Then the machine shakes at a loud roar. Woe holds onto her seat and braces herself. When the explosion happens, all hell breaks lose and gear and people tumble all over the place when the machine suddenly jerks left.
As the machine jolts and begins to fall, Koll remains calm and follows his instincts, feeling and adjusting to the movements of the plummeting craft. He's briefly reminded of his terrible fall inside the modron's ship. He calls out, "How far are we falling? Hey Grasalfan! How high were we flying?" He keeps his attention on the window, looking to see when the water or ground suddenly rushes up towards them and ready to jump out before impact. He looks to the others to let them know what he plans and that they are welcome to join if they so dare.
Seeing Koll move to the exit, Shanolia moves to join him; not keen on getting crushed inside the metal death machine and preparing to jump when he does.
Grasalfan calls out to Koll as the flying machine begins to careen, "Pretty damn high!!" Just as the gnome says this, the side of a mountain breaks through the fog. Grasalfan's eyes go wide and he hits the lever to open the rear hatch. Just as he does, the flying machine impacts the side of the mountain. The right side of the flying machine crumples under the impact, flinging ice, rock and metal debris at those within.
Polly holds on to dapple, squeezing with all her might. He's able to brace just as the impact occurs and protects the girl from any harm (13 damage). The ship tumbles and slides, continuing its trajectory as it skirts the mountain. Finally it comes to a rest. He's alive, with only a few deep cuts and bruises.
Just as the impact occurs, Shanolia gets flung from her position at the rear hatch, tumbling into the mountainside (26 damage). The impact is fast, and she can feel her collar-bone snap as her shoulder connects with something hard. She then begins to slide down the rocky snow narrowly avoiding trees and outcroppings. It isn't until she gets close to a cliff that she slams into the side of a boulder (12 damage).
Perrin braces at the cockpit area, seeing the impact come at him in full force. Just as the side of the flying machine hits, his leg gets pinned by a large sheet of metal that bends inwards, cutting deep (13 damage). He continues with the flying machine until it finally comes to a rest.
Woe braces, but as the machine hits she's flung forward into the cockpit of the flying machine. Her head smashes into the windshield that she had just repaired the other day. Hanging half-way out, she bleeds from multiple cuts. To make matters worse, she's stuck as the machine begins to tumble. At one point there is a sickening crush as her body impacts with the hard snow. (13 damage; 24 damage) She doesn't appear to be moving as the machine comes to a rest.
Singe is on the right side of the machine as it impacts, he feels the metal behind him warm and gets the brunt of the debris cutting into his back (13 damage). As the machine tumbles, he's ejected from the hatch and finds himself heading straight towards a tree. Branches break as they scrape and cut into him and his leg gets caught (12 damage). He's left hanging upside-down, twenty feet from the ground.
Koll leaps out of the hatch as the machine hits, slamming hard into a tree as he rolls with the fall (13 damage). He sees Shanolia tumble past him just as he hears the massive scraping impact of the flying machine against the mountain. For a second, he thinks he sees something flying overhead.... the shape looks vaguely like Zamar.
Lera clings to both Zamar and Dapple, bracing for the inevitable impact. As it occurs, much sooner than she anticipated, she sees Zamar unsling his lyre. He gives it a single, quick strum with a single, melodic word before the impact flings him straight into the crushed side of the airship (26 damage). He hovers there for a few moments before the flying machine tumbles and sends him flying out of the rear hatch (24 damage). With fleshy impacts against stones and trees, he continues the tumble down the side of the mountain.
Lera herself gets pelted with debris as her grip slips and her father flies head-first into the other side of the ship (13 damage). As the ship continues to slide and tumble, she finds herself trading blows with each wall, the roof, the ground, until finally the machine halts to a stop (12 damage).
As the machine grinds to a halt Grasalfan is seen bleeding from his head, unconscious from the massive impact. As everything settles, another loud roar rings throughout the mountainside.
"Polly, are you alright? Don't move, we have to get the others out of here, ok?" Dapple gingerly frees himself from Polly's grasp, gasping at the pain but relieved he'd been able to protect her somehow. Getting his bearings inside the crumpled wreckage, he sees Woe's still form lodged in the shattered windshield, and Grasalfan lying unconcious next to her. His eyes light on Perrin, trapped but awake, relieved that someone else is alert and relatively unhurt. "We have to get you, and them out of here, Perrin. Got to get you free." Bracing himself, Dapple tries to push general trapping Perrin back out enough to free the halfling.
Koll would've slammed into the tree, but keeping a preternatural calm his body becomes light as he falls. He hits the tree, but not too hard, rolls off it and lands gracefully on the ground. (Slow Fall reduces all damage). He focuses his ki and runs swiftly downhill to where Shanolia lies. She is breathing barely when he reaches her. He then draws on the power of Eddard's cloak and channels his stored ritual pain into a healing touch. (Lay on Hands for 4 points).
Shanolia groans as she stirs, looking around until her eyes fall on Koll. With difficulty, she sits up with her back against the boulder, babying her right shoulder.
"So we're clear; I don't owe you... a damn thing..." She chokes out through pained breaths.
"Uhhh...okay..." says Koll, a little taken aback by Shanolia's response. He understands that everyone deals with pain differently, though.
Shanolia looks down at the snow, avoiding his gaze. "Regardless... Thank you."
Koll quickly looks about for Zamar, sure that he had seen his body flying through the air. As he looks about, about fifty feet away, Singe falls from a tree. Moving to his side Koll sees that he is not breathing. He channels more of the cloak's energy into healing Singe. (Lay on Hands for 3hp). His pool of healing is dwindling and he hopes its enough to save at least one more person. He continues to look for Zamar.
“Dapple here!” Perrin says loudly giving him his backpack “There’s a healing potion in there. You’re faster than me. Find one of are companions that fell and give it to them. I can handle here.”
Perrin then places his hands over the most injured part of Grasalfan and uses Lay on Hands to heal him 5HP. He’ll then turn and do the same thing to Woe. Helping them safely get out of the machine when they rise to consciousness.
You pull woe out of the window and heal her, she soon starts to come to. You then heal Grasalfan, and he blinks himself awake and slowly stands. At the rear of the flying machine you see Polly shaking, her arms wrapped around Mr. Bun. Lera is stumbling outside into the snow calling out for her father.
“DAD!” Lera screams, bloodied and bruised herself. “ZAMAR!”
There's silence as Lera's scream echoes off the mountains and snow. "Here!" You hear a woman call. You don't see the owner of the voice from your position.
Polly just wanders in circles, clutching Mr. Bun to her chest. Both of them are shaking uncontrollably. Polly's eyes are wide and unblinking. She isn't crying, just continues pacing in circles.
Dapple takes the pack, ripping it open and rummaging through for the potion Perrin had said was inside. Finally he finds the vial and with it clutched in one hand he turns for the open hatch, scrambling after Lera.
Looking around at the chaos Perrin just begins barking out orders “Dapple. Get Polly when you’re done. Woe and Grasalfan find the others. Heal who you can. I’ll gather as many supplies as I can from here. We need to look for Zamar and shelter we can’t survive long out in the snow right now.” Perrin then turns to the wreckage and begins gathering as many loose supplies as he can. Who knows if we’ll come back here?
Scanning the mountainside, Dapple sees Lera as she searches for her father. He dashes after her, limping slightly and not his usual nimble self. "Here." He catches her by the shoulder and gives her the potion. "Find your father, maybe this will help. I have to go back for Polly!" Without waiting for an answer, he turns and retraces his path back to the destroyed flying machine, and Polly, who he finds outside. "It will be alright, Polly. We have to get to some shelter. Come with me, OK? Down by the trees..." He tries to lead her away, and to someplace out of the cutting wind.
Lera races off toward the voice that said ‘here.’
Lera reaches a cliff 72 feet down. At the bottom of the cliff are two people, a man and a woman. Both wear heavy white furs and have bows and spears. "You must hurry!" The woman says. "She will be coming back to eat your friends!" Zamar looks to be strapped to a sled of some sort with the man tending to his wounds.
“Is he alright?” Lera called down. “Who are you people? Who is she? Where are we?”
“Someone, please help!” Lera shouted back toward the group.
The woman calls up to Lera. "We will explain, I promise. But for now, you must hurry! She'll come back!"
“That’s my dad, I can’t leave him,” Lera shouted. “Is he ok? And who is she?”
"We have no time!" The woman turns her attention to the man working on Zamar, nodding her head. Turning back to Lera, she yells, "We *have* to go!"
“Is my dad alive?” Lera sobbed. “I can’t leave. I can’t leave without him.”
The woman turns her attention back to the man, seemingly not hearing Lera's question.
Lera is going to try and message Zamar. *”Dad, I’m coming for you. I promise.”*
Lera gets no reply.
After gathering as many supplies as he can within a couple quick minutes Perrin goes towards the trees where Polly and Dapple left towards keeping an eye and ear out for the others.
"There are footprints here!" Koll will follow the direction they lead.
Shanolia hobbles behind him, still babying her busted shoulder.
//OOC: A bunch of failed perception checks to hear Lera and a 6 for Koll to find the tracks.//
"Ok, great! For who exactly?" Singe says, squirming to get out of the tree, it's clear this his first time climbing one. The branches are slippier than he expected and he falls to the ground, "Oof, um, I'm ok. We need to get away from the dragon."
"The relevant equation is: Knowledge = power = energy = matter = mass; a good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that knows how to read." - Terry Pratchett
Lera attempts to message Perrin. ”Perrin, please help. They have him and they said we need to go and I’m so scared and I just need my dad back.”
Perrin responds “We’ve recovered everyone but we don’t know where you went. Give us a sign and we’ll be there to help.”
Hearing Koll call out, Dapple steers Polly on that direction. "Lets go this way and get gathered back up with everyone." He gently leads the poor, shocked girl towards Koll's location.
Grasalfan follows, obviously not used to the cold and snow. "Anyone need some healing?" He asks, eyes darting around at the mountain peaks.
Perrin says loud enough for everyone to hear “Lera’s messaged me. She’s found Zamar and someone else. They’re saying we have to go and I’m inclined to believe them because I don’t want whatever attacked us to come back and finish the job. Quickly let’s get to her. Shes nearby.”
Shanolia looks to Grasalfan. "I think my shoulder's busted... Could you take a look?" He gestures in a quick prayer to Gond and a healing light washes over Shanolia. (Healed for 6) The wind howls louder and louder. Suddenly, something roars over the wind.
Shanolia moves her arm a bit, wincing slightly at the soreness but grateful that her bone's mended. She nods thankfully at the Gnome.
"Polly, it's time for Mr. Drippy, honey." Dapple scoops her up and runs for the meager shelter of the trees, trying to at least get out of sight from above. Polly doesn't respond to Dapple, but allows herself to be picked up and carried. She continues to shake uncontrollably.
Seeing the state of Singe, both Grasalfan and Woe attempt to heal him with their spells. (Healed for 12)
Lera casts Light and holds it up as high as she can.
Working his way to Koll, Dapple finds the track s as well, then some distance away, the glow of a light. "There!," he calls out. Looking around for the others, he points and then turns to head towards it once he knows they have seen it too.
"This has to be Lera's trail," he adds. "Follow me, and head for that light once you can see it clearly." Turning back towards the light, he calls out as loudly as he can. "LERA! WE SEE THE LIGHT - WE'RE COMING!"
Slowly, the group makes its way through the snow and the wind, finding Lera, and the edge of the cliff. Below, a man and a woman are crouched over a sled, supporting Zamar. Overhead, the flapping of wings could be heard, faint at first, getting louder, then... silence. Even the howling of the wind seemed to die down, and everything seemed unearthly still. The group of survivors look around, wide eyed, expecting something to happen. Suddenly the woman at the bottom of the cliff screamed, "She's here!" Before anyone could react, the crunching of feet in the snow drew attention. Turning, the group saw a kobold wander around the side of the flying machine. Then a second. A third. Dozens... more. Suddenly, something landed on the wrecked flying machine, the force blowing snow everywhere. As it cleared, a white dragon sat upon it, staring down at the group of survivors, as more and more kobolds made their way toward the edge of the cliff. Seeing this, Polly began to scream, and, as if in reply, the dragon let out an ear piercing roar.
Dapple approaches Polly seeing her discomfort. "Don't worry Polly," he says. "we don't eat the one's like Mr Bun here. They're very special. You've been taking very good care of him for me, thank you! Now I'm worried he'll like you more than me."

"Well that doesn't sound very scary. I bet they'll like each other in that case."

Woe is in shock. She wakes in the cold snow. Perrin is healing Grasalfan, who wakes from being unconscious.
She quickly rolls over, and heals Grasalfan and herself.
Then she helps Perrin salvage whatever she can and pulls Grasalfan towards the shelter under the trees where Polly and Dapple are heading.

"Ok, great! For who exactly?" Singe says, squirming to get out of the tree, it's clear this his first time climbing one. The branches are slippier than he expected and he falls to the ground, "Oof, um, I'm ok. We need to get away from the dragon."

The group follows Dapple’s lead towards Lera.
