(Stealth Roll for Sir Garrion, don't forget your bonus from Sir Glint's Pass without trace).
Sir Garrion creeps up the stone stairs, to be able to see further into the city. At the top of the stairs, a large wooden sign for Cape Verde greeted him; its cheerful font standing incongruous with the horror of the rest of the village. Bodies of various species, both humanoid and animal, lay throughout the streets. While most had seemingly falling in whatever acts they had been engaged in when the Mists of the Mourning had swept through, there was evidence that a large group of residents had seen the Mists sweeping towards them and had died in fear attempting to run towards the dock.
Slithering through the bodies, stopping every so often to seemingly "taste" the air, is a hideous monster. A fleshy mass covered in a mottled stretched skin was suspended by a tangle of tentacle-like legs. Along the mass was a number of hideous faces with gnashing teeth and golden eyes that seemed to resonate fear. It paused and looked around with its clusters of eyes and extended multiple long tongues before moving a few feet and repeating the procedure. Its back and forth undulating movement leading in a zig zag pattern, slowly but inexorably, towards where the knights waited on the dock.
Garrion rushes back as fast as possible without being seen, trying to beat the monster to the knights. When he gets there , he attempts to describe the monster to he allies. “A huge mass of flesh, got a lot of eyes and tentacles and mouths.” He says, out of breath. “And it’s coming this way!”
"Let's move to a more favorable position, off the dock, out in the open so we can surround it" Glint begins to move, as he does he says "Watch your flanks, check your corners"
As the knights crest the stone stairs into the village, they all see the monster, it's about 100 feet away but moving towards them in a weird slithering, undulating gait.
Roll initiative.
I'll plan to post a map sometime today, you'll have one round to position yourselves while the creature closes.
First Garrion wold like to use the dash (bonus) action to get to the house left of him and duck behind it. If he cant get there with his speed, he will get as far as he can. Then, he will fire an arrow at the monster with his shortbow. Attack: 14 Damage: 7
Sir Garrion makes it to the house and peeks out to fire an arrow at the creature. The arrow just barely misses, scraping along the beast's fleshy hide, drawing human-looking, red blood, but dealing only superficial damage. The monster's undulating gait makes it hard to track and anticipate its movements.
The monster screams its multivoiced wail in fear and surprise, but cannot act this turn. It is no longer surprised, however, and sees the rest of the party approaching.
