Arjun steps forwards, his hand still close to his hefty weapon as he 'greets' Bryson, "Minding our own business, you'd do well to do the same." The half-orc's tone isn't quite openly hostile, but it's clear that he isn't happy with Bryson for some reason.
“Now, now Arjun, let’s not be hasty. Perhaps Bryson here can be of assistance. We are always in need of a strong arm, or strong mind as the case may be” Brandon tries to keep the peace, unsure of what Arjun is upset about.
Turning back to Bryson, Brandon explains “I myself spread the teachings of Moradin, the All-Father, but together you can say we help find things that are lost. Now what book are you seeking, lad? Perhaps we can help you as well.”
He calls out over his shoulder to Mara and Obeyros “Any luck with that door yet you two? Or are we going to wake up the whole neighborhood?”
Unphased by the stranger's arrival, Oberyos tries the door he finds that the handle turns and the restraint preventing it opening is no longer present. The door starts to swing open, almost immediately the sound of a furiously ringing bell starts, slightly deafening Mara, Thom and Oberyos due to their immediate proximity. The sound seems to carry further down the alleys and again the murmurs of residents trying to sleep are heard.
Oberyos continues to open the door and immediately notices something amiss. On the other side of the door the room is in complete darkness, the only light entering is that from the freshly opened doorway. He steps back and looks from the window to the room now opened in front of him; the layout appears to be the same as far as he can see into the room.
Oberyos does take a moment to mention the unusual lighting phenomena.
He checks if there is an illusion on the window. Part of that is if Thom is visible from the window after Thom steps inside, or if the image from the window is unchanged.

Thom steps inside, the room is immersed in darkness and the low light that is let in through the door does just enough to allow Thom to dodge the table and a few piles of books near the door. He can just make out bookshelves on the walls at either side of the room, the far wall though is shrouded in darkness.
Oberyos steps back and to the side to do a doubletake on the two images of the the interior, the dark layout with Thom inside and the well lit visage from the shop window. Surely enough he sees no change in the window's image, no sign of the door being open or of Thom entering. Being familiar enough with minor spells, he is confident that there is a minor illusion providing the image seen in each window... Maybe it is cheaper than curtains.
Outside the echoes of the alarm bell have stopped, but a few lights more lights in the nearby buildings are now starting to come on and one woman sticks her head out looking at those still outside the Paper Wyrm, she calls down, "Oi, what are you doing to Miss Alyssina's shop! Someone call the watch!" Her voice becomes louder and more shrill as she makes her assumption that anyone creating that much noise must be up to no good.
Bryson opens his mouth to respond to Brandon, completely ignoring the threat made by Arjun, but he is cut off by the woman's shrill scream. Holding up one finger to Brandon, telling the dwarf to wait, Bryson spins on his heel and walks to the base of the building with the screaming woman. "Madam, if you would please stop screaming, you would know that we are not, in fact breaking in, but rather customers. We were given very specific instructions on how to enter the shop and we were simply following them is all. Now feel free to get back to whatever you were up to." Lacing his words with some minor magic, Bryson turns back to the others and mouths, 'We need to make this quick.'
@Coachmanak - Yes, she is shouting down to catch the attention of the group and the relative quiet of the surrounding street that your group keep disrupting.
The woman huffs and winds her neck in, retracting herself back into her room and closing her window.
Oberyos gets Brandon's attention: "The darkness is probably not magical in nature. If you light a candle or torch for Thom, he can see more. Or you should enter and look around with your night-vision to help him out."

Upon hearing a voice behind her ask, "Is the door locked?", Mara replies with a satisfied smirk, "Not anymore."Gesturing to Oberyos and Thom to open it now. Finally turning to see who the new voice belonged to, the halfling eyes the human for a moment before greeting with a two fingered wave, "Mara. And a bit of both. Group seeking a book."
Looking between Arjun, Brandon & Bryson, the woman shook her head. "No need to be so fussy. Or are you saying you couldn't take him if he tried anything Arjun?" Attempting to use reverse psychology to goad the half-orc a little into calming down and nodding at Brandon's point. Turning to Bryson she answered, "I'm a merchant turned adventurer. Magic is my trade now."
It was then that Oberyos got the door open, unleashing a near deafening alarm that had the wizard clasping her hands to her ears immediately with a wince. Raising her voice slightly to be heard over the noise she stated to the group, "In hindsight, it's entirely possible that the owner of this establishment did not post that sign." But then she noticed that while the windows of the Paper Wyrm still seemed to show a nicely lit interior, the open door spoke of a different setting, so dark that she could barely make Thom's outline out from the light outside the building. Lowering her hands from her ears as the alarm faded, her expression showing her obvious confused expression, the halfling was about to follow after Thom when that woman started shouting. She had a fair point, but was glad that this new fellow Bryson seemed to be in favor of helping them out.
((If possible, I'd like to have Mara hold Fire Bolt without hurling it in order to provide some illumination. Or if she sees a candle close to the open door to use the spell to light it instead.))
As the woman retreats inwards, Bryson quickly spins around to the others and says, "The book I am searching for is 'The Sundering.' But I am looking for a specific copy that was translated into draconic. That being said, whatever book it is that you are looking for, I suggest you find it quickly. We only have about a minute before that woman gets very angry with me and decides to call the watch." With that, Bryson quickly pulls out and lights a torch before rushing inside the Paper Wyrm.

“The mark of a successful DM is when you have caused more player deaths with doors than dragons, demons, or devils.”
Mara gropes semi blindly until she feels Thom's elbow and holds on. "Even if we didn't intend to wrongfully break and enter, the guards won't see it like that and neither will the owner of the shop if she wasn't the one to post the sign. It's likely now or never if we want to get this book."
Glancing around now with the torch's illumination that the newcomer Bryson provided, the halfling then whispered, "And don't you think it's strange how it looks like the shop is lit and open from the outside but not inside? This feels like a setup. Can't tell if it's for us or for the owner though. Just feels like one of those bad mystery novels and as soon as we open up a door we'll see the owner on the ground covered in her own blood or something."
Either at the urging of the new face, or Mara's reasoning, the party move into the now lit room, having to tread carefully to avoid tripping over random books across the floor. Whilst it is clearly the same room as you saw through the windows so far as the furniture and layout is concerned, there are a few marked exceptions for the small fixings and bibliographic content. Piles of parchments on the table are messily stacked and there is no space for opening a book on any of them, lone stacks of hard-backed books piled randomly around on the floor rise up to table height. The room looks more of a jumble lacking order, as though things have not been returned to whatever home they came from when they were last taken down, or that things never had a home in the first place. The low ceiling is less than seven feet high and held by stout wooden timbers, the shorter members of the group are more than comfortable, but for the taller folk it gives you a feeling of confinement. The windows that you had looked in through have shutter boards extended across them, contributing to the lack of light within.
As you slowly progress forwards, carefully placing your feet, the back of the room becomes clear now. Mostly the back wall is just additional book shelving, one corner though has a small counter, and behind it are a door leading though the back wall, and a small circular staircase going into the ceiling.
After a few moment, outside you hear the shrill cries of the old lady once more as she starts ringing a bell and calling for the watch.
Thom
Considering the area and the time of night, you know that a member of the watch won't be hot on your heels but you also don't have unlimited time. The more insistent the lady ringing the bell is, the more likely that anyone knows where to find the watch and seeks them out and call them over just to shut her up.
Bryson
As you brush past Thom heading into the shop, you again feel the sensation of desire and wanting as it wraps itself around your own thoughts and emotions.
"WE MUST HURRY! AND WE MUST GET OUT!" Thom looks around and says "COME ON!" and he will start to look for the book. I would rather give help to someone else looking rather than making the roll myself.
Ok, so this is an instance where I think the group would be collaboratively searching if you all want to spend time searching this room. So I'll take a single roll from your best investigator (Oberyos I believe), how long you are going to search for, and whether you are searching specifically for one book, or for general clues etc.
If you want to use individual rolls, I want to know exactly where you are searching and how long for (eg, Bryson searches the table of 5 minutes, Oberyos searches the left wall bookshelf for 2 minutes), and if two people want to search the same area then I'll consider it helping so roll with adv.
If you don't want to search the room and do something else, those options exist too, I just wanted to get in ahead of any rolls.
Brandon pushes past Oberyos and enters the shop muttering “Now, I thought gnomes could see in the dark as well.” As Bryson enters with the torch, and more of the shop comes into view, Brandon helps the others search for the book as well as any sign of the shop owner, focusing on the area around the counter in the back wall. He also keeps a sharp eye turned toward the door along the back wall and the staircase.
Brandon pushes past Oberyos and enters the shop muttering “Now, I thought gnomes could see in the dark as well.”
Oberyos replies with a shrug. "I was busy checking the illusion on this window. Since you appeared to be bored standing around, and claimed that your church is dedicated to "help find things that are lost", I thought you'd jump at the chance to help a squad-mate".
He enters the shop. If anyone states what they are looking for, he will assist. Otherwise, he looks for any hand-written notes made by Miss Alyssina around the shop. (Not any professional signs that might have been outsourced, but something she wrote personally, like half-off sales or book descriptions.)
