The guards listen to Kairus', Krodhen's, and Rhogal's introductions. They look at Hun next and then at Yulmiath but, noticing some hesitancy, they do not pry. Whether the group came bearing a gift or an offer of trade seems to make little difference in the end. One of the guards yells a second or so later: "Welcome to Ahoyhoy." The other one moves down the wall and disappears momentarily. Soon enough, the party can hear the sounds of the gate being disbarred and pulled open.
Beyond the gate, the group finds itself in a simple courtyard. Judging by the items laying about, the party deduces that the tortles often repair fishing nets in this courtyard, which is covered with a thin layer of sand. There is also a cart here, seemingly stuck on the sand. Looking up, they see the ramparts where the guard stood (one of them is now closing the gate.) Looking around, they notice three separate short flights of stone steps ascending to adjoining areas. The is also a small building to the group's left as they enter; its doors are open and the stench of farm animals wafts from within.
In the center of the courtyard, a very old tortle awaits for the group. This tortle has a large circular amulet hanging from their neck, though it is hard to make the design on it from this distance. As it is usually the case with such humanoids, it is hard to tell the tortle's gender from looks alone. "Welcome to Ahoyhoy, strangers. It houses our dear neighbors: 4 boars, 4 mules, and 10 chickens. You may stop by and say hi if you'd like. My name is Mudgraw. How may I be of service to you in the maze of life?"
Despite their age, Mudgraw is quite loud, to the point he is almost bellowing (you can guess he is a male now base on how grave his voice is, though it is still just a guess.)

"While the interest of this group is multifaceted to say the least, my own request is one I hope would be simple enough. 'cause you see, uhm... Doubting whether the guards of a small podunk village would have heard of either the Dread Firescale or The Wagtail, Yulmiath still thanks his luck that no further questions where asked at the gate.
Looking around at Ahoyhoy proper, Yulmiath quickly assesses that a village with only one roofed structure is unlikely to a) hold such riches that he can easily refill his purse, b) possess much in the way of a port (unless he fancies switching careers to become a small time fisherman) such that he could sign onto a crew and leave this island behind and c) have much in the way of a constabulary to ask questions of newcomers.
Still, at least knowing where fresh hay was located would mean he could bed down somewhere warm and dry when night fell if the local tavern didn't offer a room. Plus it had a roof!
Turning to address Mudgraw, Yulmiath eyes where the sun lies in the sky, "As well as information on this Volvo fella, is there somewhere we could rent a room for tonight? Maybe get a meal or drink?"
Suspecting that Ahoyhoy will offer little in the way of hospitality and that he'll be seeing the stable again soon, Yulmiath waits for Mudgraw to answer the group's questions before going to introduce himself to his dear neighbours.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(OOC: Please ignore this stupid manipulation banner. All I did was roll a single d4 and the result never changed from the original.)
For a change, Hun steps up and is the first one to greet Mudgraw. When given a chance to respond, the old tortle clarifies: "Your reverence in tone is appreciated, but wholly unnecessary, even if I do wear my home on my back. We are all part of a community here in Ahoyhoy. Tortles come here to socialize, lay eggs, and meet with traders that have navigated the maze of life. The place has no government. I am no leader, though I may be a legend in these parts. I happen to be the oldest tortle in town on this day. But please do not take this to mean we have no rules. Tortles and guests are expected to be on their best behavior, and those who become a nuisance are asked to leave — or forced out, if necessary."
A few moments later, Mudgraw chooses to respond to Hun's second point first: "I have not heard of the specific shipwreck you allude to. Such mysteries are only for Ubtao to know. That said, there are several shipwrecks off the northern point of the island. Most of the wrecks have been plundered, but receding sand and water might reveal something precious yet to be claimed, if that is what you are after. You may even find the ship you seek there. It’s safest to explore the wrecks at low tide, I tell you. A two-headed dinosaur haunts the shallows at high tide."
Finally, Mudgraw addresses the kobold's main question: "Humans? Well, yes, we had a couple of human visitors here not long ago. Ubtao led them to us, as he has led you here now. Two or three tendays, but surely not more than a month ago. I cannot say I recall their names. If I am not mistaken, they were searching for the mud pits. You see, a trail leads from Ahoyhoy to some mud pits in the heart of the jungle. If you bathe in a mud pit for at least an hour, it will fortify you."
Yulmiath jumps into the conversation at this point, receiving the following answer: "A room to rent? Well, no, but those steps over there lead to our living area." He points to a set of steps leading west. "You are welcome to place your mat or sleeping bag on the sand there and sleep under the protection of the moon and stars as we do. Or you may want to ask our neighbors for their hospitality, if you'd prefer a roof over your head." He points to the stable. "As for a meal and drink, you are also welcome to bring your own to the living area's fires, but if you do so you must bring enough to share, as our hunters and gatherers do." He next points to some steps leading up and southeast. "Or, if you prefer, you can go to the market area and try to trade some of your goods for food and drink others may have to offer."
At this point, the group watches as Yulmiath makes his way to the stable. The dragonborn sees the 18 animals Mudgraw had mentioned. The chickens roam free within the building, while the boars and mules are kept within pens. He also notices that food for the animals is stored in a loft. Yulmiath braves another few steps into the building and senses the manure-filled air. As he winces, he accidently brushes against one of the chickens, sending their gang into a brief frenzy. They attack viciously, flying into the dragonborn like missiles and forcing him to retreat back into the courtyard. (Damage roll: 2; Yulmiath takes 2 piercing damage.)
The scene gives the rest of the party a good chuckle, but soon they settle down and continue their conversation. Krodhen and Kairus are mostly silently paying attention for now, so Rhogal speaks up next. Mudgraw responds: "Well, we live in an isolated island with heavy jungle vegetation and active volcanos in our backyard. Danger is part of our daily lives, and we have seen much evil in the heart of the Chultan jungle. A while back, while hunting flying snakes in the jungle, one of our hunters was attacked by shrunken zombies no bigger than human children. She destroyed a few of them, and the rest fled. We haven’t seen or heard of them since, but we know they are lurking somewhere. Is that the type of trouble you are referring to?"
Mudgraw uses a pause in the conversation to ask a question of his own: "So, what was this about a successful hunt whose spoils you are offering to our community?"
(OOC: Please open the spoiler below to see Mudgraw's card. You may ignore the part where he offers to guide the group. He is not doing that at this time.)
At some point during this conversation, Kwilgok approaches the group again (after tying Deadly Treasure to a post) with a rolled piece of parchment in hand. He offers it to whomever in the group will take it, saying: "Your fee paid for a copy of the island's map, so here it is. Let it be know that I have now delivered you to Ahoyhoy and the service you paid for has been completed. It was a pleasure doing business with you."
Kwilgok does the courtesy of pointing out a few aforementioned landmarks in the party's copy of the map. The northern tip of the island where the shipwrecks can be found is in hex {D-3}. The mudpits can be found in hexes {D-7} and {E-8}.
After someone gets the map from him, Kwilgok approaches Rhogal: "Well, friend, our separate deal still stands, I hope. No fees are to be charged to you so long as you hold your end of the bargain, right? Deadly Treasure and I will wait for you here in Ahoyhoy."
(OOC: Your copy of the map can be found in our campaign page.)
"Understood! But know that reverence given is not in anticipation of leadership, though that is, uh, a surprise. But rather, respect due for living for so long, scaled brother. As my tribe are want to give to all scaled folk."Hun had said during the first few moments of Mudgraw's intial deliberation.
Apart from making this point clear, there's only a whispered curse out of the Kobold as he scrambled after the fact to dig out some crude writing utensils, before then going respectfully quiet to listen and record everything to follow to the best of his ability. Unfortunately, not even being mildly busy trying to take said notes is enough to keep Hun from catching "the incident" from out the corner of his eyes.
And Hun does not chuckle, but rather look up to anyone that does with.... well, his eyes were shielded by the goggles. His disapproving frown, however, spoke volumes. Though, that is all there is out of the Kobold prior to conversation picking back up once more. As far as the matters of spoils that's something Hun leaved to the others to explain. But regarding the map, he'd go so far as to hop up and down saying, "I'lltakeitI'lltakeit" until either some much snatched it up, or its passed over to him. "Hm.. hm.... Seems the mud pits would be on the way to the wreckages. That's... actually pretty good! Oh! Uh... Either of you two know anything about a temple ruin on the island? No wait, uh.. uhm... wasn't it a Windy Keep? Or... hmm..., that's not right. Think it was an old Palace on the island, but... Bah! Any of that ringing a bell?" He asked the pair of Tortles.
Suitably chastened by his run in with some cuccos, Yulmiath returns having decided that the dear neighbours can keep their stable. They weren't particularly welcoming... And the smell quickly reminded Yulmiath why he never had taken to farming. Sand and moonlight
Returning to the group, Yul tries to brush off his embarrassment, but having been brought low by a chicken he guesses that he might as well swallow his pride for now.
"Mudgraw. If a stranger were looking for paying work in the village, where might he begin looking?"
Kairus did not object to Hun getting the map. He looked at it, sure (navigator's eye should help to take that main points), but the kobold was more used to carrying and handling such objects.
"Bathing in a mud pit? I must see it for myself. In deeps diving into a mud pit would mean to get cooked. For the sake of those two humans hope the things on the surface are different."
The sailor thanked Kwilgok for the guidance and the map and shared with Mudgraw the idea that struck him as he did so. "Why don't you ask Kwilgok to show you where we left the body? And his dinosaur can help you to carry the parts."
He had nothing against sleeping under the stars (would much prefer, in fact, to the aromas of the pigsty) and was looking forward to the campfire with locals, their food and stories. He was about to share his own too, about the life above and the below the waves. "I remember you saying it was a temple. A very old one. Ruins even." Said he to Hun. "Come on, we can stop pestering our hosts, surely some hunters around the fire can tell the stories about the place. But I all for checking up shipwrecks first."
Mudgraw nods as Hun explains where his respect is coming from, and Kwilgok gladly hands the map over to the kobold. He adds: "By the way, I can't say I have seen many of your type before, if I am honest. Do you relate to lizardfolk?"The question prompts a follow up from Mudgraw, aimed a Kairus: "The same goes for you, blue-skinned friend. May I ask whence you came within the maze of life?"
As the conversation advances, Mudgraw addresses Yulmiath's question about work: "Well, the easiest way would be to go out hunting or fishing and then trying to peddle your spoils at the market. We have a smithy too, and rare and strange materials are always welcomed to be experimented on. You could try gathering minerals from the many Geonid Caves in the island or bring animal- and monster-based materials for leatherworking or scrimshaw artisans."Kwilgok jumps in, with his own suggestion: "Well, there is always the chance you can score a bigger payday going to more dangerous places. Apart from the shipwrecks at the northern tip of the island, for instance, you could go into the jungle. Carved into the base of the mountains east of Ahoyhoy is an old shrine that belonged to some kind of snake cult. It’s a place of mystery and secrets; who knows what you may find there. We call it the Shrine of Fangs, and not many in the island are willing to brave it."The guide looks at Mudgraw from confirmation and receives a nod.
Mudgraw then thanks Kairus for the meat offer and asks one of the guards to gather some of the hunters. Kwilgok says: "Yes, I can lead the hunters back to the were the dimetrodon was felled, but they best bring torches. Deadly Treasure is going nowhere near those pools again, so the carving will have to happen under the light of the moon and some flames."The next several minutes are spent gathering a small party of adult tortles and supplies for the mission. Kwilgok soon leaves with the others, before all sunlight is gone. They take the cart with them, which was not stuck in the sand after all, as well as a mule. Mudgraw looks expectant: "Let us see just how much meat they are able to bring back. It is quite generous of you to offer it to us as a gift, given some of you seem desperate for coin. That said, I guess there is plenty of work for us to do ourselves before we can claim dinner, so I doubt the community would be willing to pay much after all is said and done. Regardless, I thank you on behalf of us all."
Finally, the coversation turns to the topic of the temple in the island. "You seem mighty curious about the Snout of Omgar... I guess that is a good thing, if Ubtao wills it. There’s an old trail leading from Ahoyhoy to Dangwaru, high up on the mountainside. Tortles built the Typhoon Palace a century ago for the survivors of a shipwreck as a show of goodwill, but it’s been abandoned for years. Evil spirits now watch over the palace, which is said to be full of treasure. Many a young tortle like to brave the temple as a form of ritual of passage, but none ever get too far. It is dangerous in there, and something really should be done about it. But alas, our community is not powerful enough to deal with the evils inside and we cannot afford hiring others. If you decide to go in, go at your own peril."
(OOC: The mentioned Smithy can be found in area 8 of the Ahoyhoy map. Switching to the map of the island, you can find many entrances to caves, collectively know as the Geonid Caves: {G-12}, {E-18}, and {H-21} are a few examples, but there are more. The Shrine of Fangs is in hex {E-10}, while the Typhoon Temple is in hex {D-15}.)
Unlike most kobold who would be shocked and/or offended by the question, Hun shook his head once to the sides in a 'no', and let that be all there was to it. For now. But later there would be a new name added to at least one of his books...
"Humans can be stupid. But if Volo went there, then he would be fine. The real danger would be trying to reach that place, I think." Hun commented in response to Kairus first point not long after. Of the second point out of the triton, the Kobold simply nodded, but seemed to interested in studying the map at that point to immediately follow up on the suggestion. Even with the scavenger's attention having grown lax, he'd grumble on the third point, but hadn't denied the suggestion. Though with age came wisdom, the younger hunters were bound to know more up to date details about any ruins on the island.
Be all that as it may, Hun was content to stand back, listen, and wait for conversation to flow as it would, trusting that he would have his answers in due time. Though there were moments, such as mentions of strange minerals in some caves that brought out a smile of interest out of the Kobold. At other times, Hun carefully made simple marks on the map where points of interest. "Mn. Sounds like a, uh, lovely domicile. But anyhow, I think that's about for now. You have my thanks, Senior Soul Mugraw. If not for your hospitality, than at least for your many insights." Hun again palmed an opposing fist and bowed to the elder Tortle. "You know, uh... if you have any food and water stores you think need purifying, it would be my honor to assist. Otherwise, uh..." At that point he looks to the others. "Think I'll be paying that blacksmith a visit. If that's alright with you, Mr. Yully. Er, well... uhm... that is, if you think you might require my services regarding another concern."
"Not surprised," Kairus's smile was wide and honest as usual. "When I just came here four years ago - and by "here" I mean "on the land",I used to get angry every time someone asked. You see, my people believe everyone knows about our existence and are grateful for what we do. Alas, I learned this is not the case. I would gladly tell you, though. Shearing a good story while having a good meal,"(he emphasized "meal" just a little) "is the best pastime one can imagine. Can even sing a few songs if you like. The songs of the deep lose quite a lot on the surface but still help to tell the tale. Hope to hear your stories and song too."
Kairus still did not lose the hope for one big happy meeting over the campfire with some food involved and did not mind being a part of the attraction or speeding up the process. "We are staying for the night, right? And at the morning begin with the mud pits?"Asked he his companions and turned to the elder turtle again. "If you wish I can accompany your hunters and help too. Let's the dinner to be truly festive!"
Young energy demanded to be spent (especially if it could help to get to the juicier (in every sense of the word) part of the evening faster. He was ready to run back if that would help.
Pleased to know there are options of varying levels of danger and of reward for earning himself a bit of coin, Yulmiath decides it might be useful to at least have an idea of which vendor within the village might have an eye for what.
Looking down at Hun, Mr Yully decides to maybe tag along with the Kobold, see for himself who might sell what. "Get yourself along to the blacksmith's. I'll follow on, I'd like to see a little more of the village."
"I knew of th' temple from Kwilgok. But the cave and the old shrine also catch my ear. They seem to be good places fer mushrooms ta grow." Rhogal says, stroking his beard in anticipation. All the while dust puffs out from it.
(OOC: It looks like the group is separating a bit, so I'll make a few separate posts.)
KAIRUS
In Mudgraw's eyes' your offers just keep getting better. "Aw, yes. There is nothing better than long talks around a fire, with food and drink being consumed, tales being shared, and merriment being had. You and your group are welcome to join us at the living area (Ahoyhoy Area 3) for supper, merriment, and a night under the moon and stars. And I know just the right dish to be prepared, fire-roasted dimetrodon!"
A few tortle passersby hear the joy in Mudgraw's words and yell in approval of the invitation. The old tortle continues: "Yes, please go with the hunters and help them. The bigger the party the sooner the meat can be brought back and festivities can start." Mudgraw pats Kairus' shoulder amicably and encourages him to leave as to catch up with Kwilgok and the hunters, who left a mere few minutes ago.
From somewhere else in the settlement, a loud gong noise is heard; just one loud bong sort of noise.
(@Blue: Assuming you leave to join Kwilgok, this little expedition may take some time. What exactly do you do?)
"Well, I don't think it must be purified" Mudgraw begins responding to the kobold's offer, "but it sure wouldn't hurt, especially if we are to have a celebration this evening with Ubtao's permission. There is a basin right in the center of the living area (Ahoyhoy Area 3). It collects rain water for our consumption, but I bet it would taste even better if you can purify it somehow."
After Hun mentions the smithy (Ahoyhoy Area 8) and Yulmiath says he'll stop by the market (Ahoyhoy Area 9), Mudgraw asks a couple of other tortle, both on the younger side, to show the visitors to their respective desired destinations.
The smithy's enclosure, like others, lacks a roof. The young tortles explain that villagers use this easternmost area of the fort for crafting tools, shields, and weapons. It contains a stone forge and equipment for metalworking, stone carving, and hide tanning. In the middle of the area is a primitive wooden dummy the tortles use for weapon testing. A second roofed structure in the settlement is also found here, and justified by the need of some blacksmithing tools and processes to be sheltered from the elements. A few adult tortles seem to be wrapping up the day's work, as sunset is not far now.
The other young tortle invites the kobold and dragonborn to wander as they will and then let them know once they would like to visit the market.
After the dwarf also expresses his desire to explore many parts of the island and the half-orc silently agrees with the plan that is beginning to form, Rhogal and Krodhen are left in the courtyard with Mudgraw. The old tortle is in good spirits after the gift, the offer to enjoy the evening, and the general understanding that today's visitors are more curious than villainous. Wanting to share more of the settlement with the group, he invites you to follow him: "Come, come, don't stay behind. You should also explore Ahoyhoy if it interests you. Here, I'll help you get started. Like life, our settlement could be a maze to most."
He leads the pair up a set of steps that goes west. Soon, they find themselves in another circular enclosure that is reminiscent of a dome without a roof. The ground is covered in soft sand, and ropes are strung from the tops of the walls, forming nets that could be mistaken by a failed attempt at building a roof after all. Mudgraw explains: "This is one of our egg hatcheries (Ahoyhoy Areas 6; there are two of them.) The ropes above prevent pteranodons and similar flying predators from swooping in and stealing the eggs, while still blessing our eggs with the light of the sun and the moon." Rhogal and Krodhen notice that there are no eggs in this hatchery.
For completeness, Mudgraw also walks the duo over to the second hatchery, this one necessitating a trek east instead. The second hatchery is larger, constructed in the same way as the first, and just as empty. "Unfortunately, it is not our mating season yet, so we can't show you our pride and joy, but let me tell you, our eggs are a sight to see. Each tortle egg weighs 5 pounds. A newborn tortle is usually confined to its hatchery for a few months, until it learns to walk on two legs." The old tortle seems genuinely delighted to be sharing this information, like a proud grandparent.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kairus's idea is simple - to help hunters harvest needed parts of dimetrodon. Would not assume him to be the specialist in dinosaur butchering but he can help physically, another pair of hands.

As my tribe are want to give to all scaled folk." Hun had said during the first few moments of Mudgraw's intial deliberation.

Do you relate to lizardfolk?" The question prompts a follow up from Mudgraw, aimed a Kairus: "The same goes for you, blue-skinned friend.
You could try gathering minerals from the many Geonid Caves in the island or bring animal- and monster-based materials for leatherworking or scrimshaw artisans." Kwilgok jumps in, with his own suggestion: "Well, there is always the chance you can score a bigger payday going to more dangerous places. Apart from the shipwrecks at the northern tip of the island, for instance, you could go into the jungle. Carved into the base of the mountains east of Ahoyhoy is an old shrine that belonged to some kind of snake cult. It’s a place of mystery and secrets; who knows what you may find there. We call it the Shrine of Fangs, and not many in the island are willing to brave it." The guide looks at Mudgraw from confirmation and receives a nod.
Mudgraw then thanks Kairus for the meat offer and asks one of the guards to gather some of the hunters. Kwilgok says: "Yes, I can lead the hunters back to the were the dimetrodon was felled, but they best bring torches. Deadly Treasure is going nowhere near those pools again, so the carving will have to happen under the light of the moon and some flames." The next several minutes are spent gathering a small party of adult tortles and supplies for the mission.

"When I just came here four years ago - and by "here" I mean "on the land", I used to get angry every time someone asked. You see, my people believe everyone knows about our existence and are grateful for what we do. Alas, I learned this is not the case. I would gladly tell you, though. Shearing a good story while having a good meal," (he emphasized "meal" just a little) "is the best pastime one can imagine.
And at the morning begin with the mud pits?" Asked he his companions and turned to the elder turtle again.

HUN & YULMIATH

RHOGAL & KRODHEN
Kairus's idea is simple - to help hunters harvest needed parts of dimetrodon. Would not assume him to be the specialist in dinosaur butchering but he can help physically, another pair of hands.
