Quick Recap: Our intrepid heroes were investigating potential leads of information, mostly about a local gang called the Redbrands.
Kathrine was speaking with Daran Edermath, an older half-elf man who is a former member of the Order of the Gauntlet and had a couple of quests for the group (in the spoiler).
"I will cut to the chase. The Redbrands are terrorizing this community. We all moved here within the last several years, hoping for a simple, peaceful life. The Order of the Gauntlet would regard any who could rid the town of these ruffians in high regard."
"There is another matter... there are some reports regarding Old Owl Well, a two-day march northeast of Phandalin. The Gauntlet is very keen on putting the undead to true death... there is reason to believe that undead are, well... alive is not the right word... afoot perhaps? These ruins dates back to Netheril. There could be dangerous magic dormant there."
Grzak and Gabriel were talking to a couple of youths who were slowly giving them some information on the Redbrands.
Alarion was speaking with a halfling farmer family, and likewise getting information.
G & G: The boy laughs. "It's an old tavern at the edge of town. I've seen some of those thugs hanging out there."
Kathrine: Daran laughs at Cringer's antics. "That you certainly seem to be, my small friend," he says. Turning back to Kathrine, he says, "If the Redbrands don't seek you out, I've heard rumors that their base is in the cellars of old Tresendar Manor, on the east side of town. You might look there."
Feeling like he just woke up from a very very long pause in time and space, Gabriel blinks once. Then smiling at the boys. "My thanks, what end of town might this old tavern be at?" His smile reachs his eyes, strangely full of joy that he is alive....how odd he thinks to himself.
Grzak blinks and looks at his surroundings. Wow, haven’t daydreamed like that in a long time, he thinks to himself. He doesn’t quite feel like himself but tries not to project that to the company he is with.
Kathrine nods to the elf. "Where would this manor be located?" She asks. "I am quite certain those I travel with will wish to make a call to wherever these redbrands are holing up at, knowing my companions anyway."
G & G: "Just follow the main road to the end, and you'll run into it," the boy says. His sister comes out from behind him and syas "Be careful, Mr. Knight and Mr. Scary! They're mean!"
Kathrine: "A little ways through the forest to the east of town. It's hard to miss, even in the sorry state it's in now. I've heard little Carp Alderleaf found a secret way in, but his mother dismisses it as an overactive imagination."
Gabriel smiles from ear to ear, his perfect white teeth practically gleaming. "Don't worry dear, my friends and I will set this matter to right. By Torm' s blessed gauntlet I swear it!"
Turning to Grzak, "should we head back to our inn, and let everyone know what we have found?"
"Thank you for that information." Kathrine tells the elf ranger. "I'll tell my friends about it, as well as about this issue at Old Owl Well. We are likely going to be around for a bit, so I would think they would be up for checking that place out for you as well." She stands, giving the elf a friendly smile. "Thank you also for your hospitality." She says, then says her farewells and heads back towards the inn.
You arrive back at the inn all at roughly the same time. Alarion arrives last of the group, a silver winged cat with white wingtips on his shoulder. "It seems I'm the last to arrive," he says. "What did you all discover?"
"Well it seems these red brands are just a bunch of thugs that have taken over a place here in town as their base." Kathrine shrugs. She gives the directions given to her as to the manor's location. "Plus there are some undead causing trouble up around a place called Old Owl Well, that the orchard keeper would like us to look into, when we have a chance. He seemed much more concerned with taking care of these thugs here in town first."
"That is what I found out as well. They have some sort of hangout down the road at a old inn.' Gabriel points the direct the kids told him. "I think we need to deal with these thugs right away."
"That's effectively what I learned as well," Alarion says. "I also was told of a hidden passage into one of the bases, so we would be able to surprise them and hopefully avoid too much bloodshed."
"So, do we go to the hang out or to this manor?" Kathrine asks with a glance to the others. "If the manor, seems like we have a possible back-way in, so that would be a good option for taking them by surprise."
"I say the manor," Alarion replies. "The hangout seems like a secondary base, which would only warn them we're coming and lead to more deaths than there have to be. Celeireth," he motions to the cat, "can serve as a scout or lookout. While she's close to me, I can mentally speak with her, and invisibility spells fail to fool her senses."
As the wizard finishes talking, Sildar comes into the inn. "Ah, my friends. I'm glad to see you here. I secured some funds to reward you with." He pulls out 4 pouches, and hands one to each party member. Inside each pouch are 25 gold Neverwinteran Dragons. "I heard you talking about the old manor. While you're there, could you keep your eyes out for a wizard named Iarno Albrek? He's a short, dark-bearded human man in his thirties, and disappeared there some time ago."
"We will find your missing companion if he is at the manor, Sildar." Gabriel looks up from his seat at the table .
Turning back to the rest of the group, "I agree we infiltrate the manor first, I think we go around midnight when the red brands at the inn will be deep in their cups. My only concern is will these red brands leave town when we scatter this comrades or will they attempt violence and robbery before they go? Do we know who the leader of these red brands might be?"
"All I know is that they are a group of thugs. Likely a tuff leads them, just another thug, but one that the others fear or respect." She shrugs as she smiles up at sildar. "Do you know why your lost friend was at the manor? Was he also looking into the redbrand group?"

"No, he was merely exploring the area, as I understand," the aging warrior says. "All I know as far as their leader is that he or she is known as Glasstaff."
"Well, that sounds like an interesting name." Kathrine says with a nod. She glances to the others. "So, are we thinking of waiting for nightfall to do this then? If so we likely need to rest up now, as we will want to be clear-headed then."
"I'd agree," Alarion says. "We should rest now, and I can study my spells and prepare the most relevant ones, if you are all comfortable going significantly after dark. Gabriel especially, since I believe the rest of us can see with no light."
