Wow an 18 and a 6. Let me see what I can do with that.
Question. I'm assuming if I take a starting uncommon magic item (Halberd+1 here), if I choose the Custom Lineage race, I can still get the free feat from that at level 1? If not, no worries - I can change it up.
Name: Barnaby "Barn" Featherington
Race: Custom Lineage. Flavor as half-human, quarter-wood-elf, quarter Goliath. Free feat with custom lineage: Polearm Master.
Class: Paladin (Oath of the Ancients) - worships Ehlonna
Appearance: about 6'6" 240, but slouches. Wide smile, missing a tooth. Black hair and brown eyes.
Everyone has always told Barnaby Featherington that he has an incongruous name. But that suits him just fine. Mostly because he doesn't know what "incongruous" means. Same way he loves books, but only if they have pictures and no words.
Barnaby, or "Barn" to his many friends, has always been a happy, lovable soul, just a little touched in the head. His favorite pastime since childhood wandering the outdoors, especially woodlands. He's always felt a deep bond to nature that he could never put into words (let's be honest, there's not much he can put to words). With his disarmingly simple ways, Barn managed to make friends with wild and fey creatures in the deeper woods without the slightest thought as to who or what they were, and it's much the same with people from all walks of life. Which is good for his mental health as the bastard son of a half-elven noblewoman mother (Corinne Featherington) and a half-goliath mercenary (unknown name, long gone).
Always a source of mild shame to his mother and her family, Barn found a home, along with religion of sorts, as a guard at the local temple of Ehlonna, elven goddess of the woodlands. He kept his newfound faith when he joined the military on a campaign far from home and learned to use his size and strength with a polearm both in the vanguard on attack and the rearguard in retreat. Since then, house Featherington joined a failed rebellion (in Keoland/Greyhawk) and are all either dead or fugitives, wanted dead or alive. Including himself, Barn supposes, and maybe his mother. Though he hasn't thought much about it.
Ideals: Sincerity. There’s no good in pretending to be something I’m not. (Neutral) Respect. People deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. (Good)
Bonds: I love both people and the land. I protect both.
Flaw: The lord who rules my land will stop at nothing to see me killed.
Applications are closed. Thank you everyone for your interest. I will work notify you in the next few days via PM if you're selected and hopefully we can start next week!

That's correct. You can use the rules as written for custom lineage or variant human and end up with 2 feats out of the gate.
