This sounds exciting! Love how the lore starts off and now we're "under the dome" I'd like to roll now and I'll fill in a character hopefully later today. Thanks!!

Ability scores: 131516141513
Ability scores: 12161818149
Name: Fenza Timbers
Race & subrace if applicable): Rock Gnome
Class & planned subclass: Artificer
Background: Failed Merchant
Short backstory: Fenza has tried her hand at a lot of things, most recently as a brewmaster, but her concoctions kept blowing up in peoples faces as she always goes a bit extra. Her tinkering just didn’t seem to fit where she tried and needs a new focus. She wants to experiment with the little magic she has but so far, it has not been to people’s liking. She’s getting a little discouraged because it isn’t like she has somewhere else to go. New Commonwealth is the only place for merchants to really sell their wares.
List of family members (They can't all be dead.): Her uncle that she grew up with is a scholar and she has a daughter, Beatrice.
@Draukarius, a few things to consider while including setting elements that Felgrimm gave into your character story idea:
The dome is several miles in diameter. So being in the "wilds" and a loner will probably mean he hangs out by the shield wall about 3 to 7 miles from the village, as that's as far away as one can get. Or maybe his wilds are underground.
The lifespan of every race is about 120 years and the shield has been up at least 200 years, so there probably isn't anyone left who was born outside the shielding. If they are really old they might be the child or grandchild of someone born outside the dome. Most young coming of age characters will be 6th plus generation under the shield. So maybe his opinion of his idealized family level before comes from stories a family member tells him about or a title they carry no one respects.
No one enters the dome or leaves the dome. Does he learn his favored enemy dragon skills from someone teaching him, visions, books?
With no one able to leave the dome the criminal organization is still here, if he didn't kill them all, and he can't escape from the repercussions of the job he did for them. Does the village generally know what he did? Was he punished or banished? Does the organization or someone else black mail him about the job if no one knows generally?
I hope that helps you get to know you character better!
Whoa, this was a lot to think about but I think I can tweak things with this feedback to make it fit.
So he will have been ranging around the edge of the shield wall, his preferred way of living being to avoid people as much as possible unless he had no other choice.
His family have been handing stories of their ancestral mountain home down from generation to generation. For him his grandfather was the one who would tell him the stories handed down about past grandeur and such.
The favored enemy comments have me thinking, would it be possible for the stories of his grandfather to have triggered recurring realistic and almost visionlike dreams about the dragons?
With the criminal organization he has reached a sort of standoff where he cannot take them down and they cannot get rid of him. So the situation has evolved to where he stays out of the village and they out of the wilds.
This concept sounds amazing, and while I'd love to play in this story, I'm going to withdraw Pimster to give some other players a chance to enjoy this story! I'm thinking about DM'ing another campaign myself in the new year!
Best of luck - may the odds be ever in your favor!
Backstory: Sarelia can't remember a time when she wasn't reading. When her brother was climbing trees, she was sitting underneath them with a stack of books. When gifts were exchanged for holidays, she asked for books. She's always been reading about history, the cataclysm, her people, everything. From a young age, she's known what happened 200 years ago, and she's always imagined doing something to fix it. Though she's shielded from the brunt of it in New Commonwealth, she's heard stories, and more than that, she's read them. She's read about the horrors of that time, of how it decimated the world and the people in it, how the elves were left with primarily just what their society called children, because anyone older than that had suddenly surpassed their lifespan. And she has a need to help, if she only could. Now the walls are weakening, the elders say, and magic is returning--and with it, Sarelia's found she has all of a moon elf's aptitude for magic and then some. She's exchanging the books on history and culture for spellbooks, reading up on magic, and on a longstanding elvish school of magic most of all--bladesinging. Someone has to do something, and it seems she's going to be one of those people.
Family: Naishanna Vethalas (Mother) Aelar Vethalas (Father) Saelith Vethalas (Fraternal twin brother) A few aunts, uncles, and cousins
Race & subrace if applicable): Gem Dragon (Emerald) - if this isn't allowed then I can change race
Class & planned subclass: Bard (planning Spirits)
Background: Folk Hero
Short backstory that makes sense with the lore above. (ask for more details if needed): Zetare was born into the Vyrio family of renowned jewelers, and remained content learning this trade for years in his early life. However, when in his community an old elf began to near the end of their life far more rapidly than anticipated they began to seek an apprentice. This elf: Ailre, was a storyteller and a lore keeper and Zetare used his insightful outlook to quickly hear all that his master knew of the world. Upon Ailre's death, Zetare continued telling his master's stories and spreading information, both old and new. In the decades since that time, Zetare became an elder of the community and was often looked to for guidance but he is always in pursuit of new knowledge to share.
List of family members (They can't all be dead.):
Kaire - Older brother, dedicated jeweler, near death - Good relationship (although resentful that Zetare chose not to be a jeweler)
Otie - Younger sister, twin of Alka, jeweler (primarily salesperson), mid 50's - Good relationship
Alka - Younger sister, twin of Otie, jeweler, mid 50's - Good relationship, if distant
Tira - Nephew, Kaire's son, mid 50's, smith - Good relationship (with Zetare), but resents Kaire for trying to force him into being a jeweler
Race & subrace if applicable): Gem Dragon (Emerald) - if this isn't allowed then I can change race
Class & planned subclass: Bard (planning Spirits)
Background: Folk Hero
Short backstory that makes sense with the lore above. (ask for more details if needed):
List of family members (They can't all be dead.):
As dragonborn are in the PHB, I'll allow it. The new versions of dragonborn from Fizban's came about in this world due to the warping of reality included in the lore. This may help with your back story perhaps.
Roy Campbell - Human - Noble - Paladin (unsure. Devotion or Watcher seems good for the setting, would love to talk more specifically about this with you)
Not that there’s all that much wealth to lord over anyone here inside the Walls, but Roy has some. His forebears had a mind to control key areas. Farming, fishing, a bend in the river good for a water wheel and mill. And they arrived with plenty of coin.
The Campbells are known to be pillars of the community now, helping to resolve those issues that come up with tact, grace, and pragmatism as needed. It was not always this way. Before Tiamat, they had been wicked despots, and foul worshipers of evil. Anything to gain a bit more power. Not that they care to share this information with the larger community.
Roy was taught how to turn the strength of arms and will of the Campbells towards whatever end he chose by his uncle, Colin Campbell. He’s taken to the ways of the knight-devout like a fish to water. Roy knows enough to see that Colin does not believe the Oaths himself, but hopes he can bring righteousness into the fold of the Campbell clan, regardless.
Father - Alistair Mother - Sorcha Uncle - Colin Grandfather - Duncan Grandmother - Elspeth Sister - Ailsa
I'm going through and checking some things and will post anything I need info on. If anyone has any further questions, they can ask now. Will be closing the recruitment this weekend and make choices.
(Can't figure out how to do the ability scores like you guys while on a phone, so here's just what I went with after 3 set rolls)
Ability scores: 14 12 11 15 13 10
Name: Morgrum Fireforge
Race & subrace if applicable): Dwarf (Mountain)
Class & planned subclass: Ranger
Background: Criminal/Spy
Short backstory that makes sense with the lore above. (ask for more details if needed): After the cataclysm the Fireforge clan had been thrown into disarray, their mountain home had been reduced to a shadow of its former glory, the clan barely scraping by. Morgrum grew up in this environment. Hunting in the mountains to support his clan and hating the dragons that caused it was all he knew for a long time. This background eventually pushed him into contact with some..disreputable figures who promised vengeance and pushed him to hone his long range killing skills and eventually led him to shunned by his parents.
List of family members (They can't all be dead.):
Father: Maugrim Fireforge
Mother: Tryga Fireforge
I am learning fast and enthusiastic, but may make a mistake here and there. Interested in seeing how this campaign will unfold though.

Forgot to put planned subclass off armorer. Thanks!!

You’ve made a spreadsheet? I love that!! Glad I could help! 😉
Going war mage at level 2 would be fun to play reflavoring the powers as not related to war but intuition from experience and the protective abilities are related to predictive acuity. They are more intrinsic abilities to Gillian, not related to war. A reskin with no changes to the class structure itself.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
This sounds interesting! Hopefully my submission just makes it in time...
