Chonk, you peer forward toward the carcass and can make out deep wounds on its hide. Vicious biting and tearing has made this beast almost unrecognisable. It was a violent death.
Lefaris, you move in closer and realise that what you are looking at is a dead wolf. It has been attacked and killed recently. Blood pools around it. splatters of the red ichor trail off to the northern side of the path through a gap in a nearby cobbled wall. To learn more you would need to get closer and investigate.
As the others check out the wolf, Sindri goes a bit to the North to check out the gap in the nearby cobbled wall. Purposely staying on this side of the wall.
Gurozinches closer the body, "Something seems off... So fresh, yet we didn't see a predator, or a rival in the species of territory or something. Maybe a disease has affected something's mind?"
He closes the gap to maybe find something of the attacker that can be identified...
Chonk will follow Sindri. Whatever did this left a blood trail, yet didn’t take the carcass for food. The wolves are weary to leave the forest during daylight, yet this one was killed here in the middle of the day. Chonk moves cautiously as he is mulling over these thoughts. He mentally prepares for Sindri to startle a viscous beast.
Guroz you get close to the dead wolf and examine its woundS. They are definitely bite marks, but not the dagger like incisions of a predator. These bites were made by solid square teeth, pulling and tearing at the flesh. You see a tuft of what looks like blood stained lambs wool snared in the wolfs powerful jaws. Looking at the path here about you note that a flock has recently passed through, though you see no tracks to identify the killer of this beast.
Sindri you make your way to the wall and study the bloodied rubble. What ever killed the wolf passed through here and on the far side you see smears of blood on the grass leading off northward. You note tufts of blood stained lambs wool on the ground. A sudden scream in the distance draws your eyes to the north, where you see a small flock of sheep milling around at the bottom of a solitary oak tree.
"Whatever did it went that way." Lefaris says, gesturing to the wall and the gap in it. "I suggest we keep moving. We are not equipped to deal with a beast that attacks a wolf and does this sort of damage. She skirts the dead body and moves a bit down the path, about 30 feet on towards the village. She pauses there as the others investigate the wall and blood trail.
“Agreed. Let’s get to that village as soon as possible!” Sindri gets back to the path and follows Lefaris. Giving Little Pwok a pat on the head as she goes.
Before they walk away, Lefaris looks back to the dead wolf. She considers if it is worth the trouble of taking it with, for the meat, but then decides her companions would likely get a bit squemish about carrying the bloody body with. Plus she couldn't say, not for certain, that poison was not used in its demise. She puts it out of her mind as she prepares to head on towards the village.
You leave the grizzly scene behind you and continue your journey toward the village. By the time you make out the first outlines of buildings in the distance the sun is sinking low toward the horizon and the warnings of Notch echo in your minds. You make all haste marching toward the small settlement and are soon greeted with a wooden sign reading "Welcome to Needlehole"
The village has no walls or distinct borders and appears to be little more than a random collection of small buildings set around a central open area. A wide track leads directly into the settlement and as you pass the first few houses you see curious faces peering at you through the glass windows.
You see figures up ahead in what appears to be the village square. Squat buildings of cobble and oak are spread out around you now as you approach. You start to hear yelling and cries of alarm. There appears to be some sort of commotion in the square. The occupants of the village are dashing to and fro and one of them runs to a bell in the centre of the square and begins to ring it franticly.
These villagers are humanoid in a appearance, wearing brown woollen tunics and breaches. They all appear to be bald and have large bulbous noses. That is all you can take in before you see the creatures that are rampaging amidst them. Three shambling zombies have emerged from the nearby well, protected by the shadows of the buildings in the failing light. You hear their low moans and catch the fetid smell of rotting flesh carried on the breeze.
"Ok, well that we simply cannot ignore." Lefaris says, pulling out her wooden sword. "Let's see if we can do something about those zombies." She moves towards the zombies, to aid the villagers.
Chonk advances with the others. As he does so, he studies their movements and tries to ascertain weak points that could be exploited with his Martial Arts. He also looks at the terrain to see if there might be a way to maneuver in a way to flank these monsters to give his allies more advantage on their attacks.
Welp, Sindri gulps, here we go. And she runs as fast as her little legs will carry her trying to keep up with her new friends to join in the fight. She runs till she is within 60 feet of the closest zombie and stops.
You took the words out of my mouth Sindri, everyone roll initiative. Also, take a free attack as you do as the zombies did not see you coming, so intent were they on the villagers.
Lefaris moves closer, playing a tune on ehr music box. as she does so she glances to Guroz. "There is but three of them for your ire. Turn them into logs for their funeral pire." She then casts a spell, causing a five foot by five foot pit to suddenly appear in the path of one of the zombies. She makes sure it is far enough ahead that the zombies can spot it as they move up on it.
BA: bardic inspiration to Guroz. Action:
cast minor illusion causing a pit to appear to form in front of one of the zombies. Hopefully it can be placed where it forces the zombie to use up its action to go around or to investigate it. Movement: only as close as needed for minor illusion. So 30 feet from where the pit was formed.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sindri lifts her hand up, palm facing the zombie, and sends an eldritch blast towards the zombie that Chonk attacked. Keeping her distance from the zombies.
Chonk you charge in a slam a fist into the nearest zombie. The first strike slides harmlessly away, deflected by the slick rotten flesh of the creature. The second however, hits home with a crunch as you feel a bone snap beneath its fetid green skin.
Lefaris the note block comes to life in your hands and you feel the magic of the weave answer your call to aid your companion. It is a relief to find that your skills work just as well in this place as they do back home. Confident now you cast you minor illusion in front of one of the undead as it shambles forward toward the fight.
Sindri your eldritch blast hits the zombie square in the chest and leaves a gaping hole as gore and bone splinters fly out of its back. It staggers forward in bad shape.
Guroz you finish the job swinging with two powerful blows that cut the creature to ribbons and send it crashing to the ground.
Two zombies remain. One stands 5 feet from Chonk and Guroz, the other is beyond the illusory hole 15 feet away. Initiative stands as follows :
Guroz 17
Zombies 17
Chonk 12
Lefaris 6
Sindri 5
OOC: Regarding flanking. When you state your intent to flank this will not take effect until the following round following my confirmation. In this case the flanked target died before the effect could be achieved.
