The days preparing for the journey were, for the most part, peaceful. Everyone did their part preparing for the road ahead. They gathered mining supplies, food and basic tools. Sacks of flour, casks of salted pork, Two kegs of ale, shovels, picks, crowbars and five lanterns with a barrel of oil. Sildar kept tabs to help with preparations and Gundren rarely saw the party. He claimed he had a lot to do on his end but the party never could quite shake the feeling that he was avoiding them to hide his intentions. He never gave off any threatening vibe but it was clear that his goal, whatever it was, kept him occupied and secretive. Currently the party was pouring over a map to plan out their route. It would be a three day journey depending on how they planned their trip out and what they met on the road. The four sat around the tavern table and began to plan their discussion.
"Probably for the best," said Felix, looking at the map. "My only concern is the lack of cover, in case something flying decides to attack. Hopefully, we'll have enough firepower and spells to keep them off. I have my darts, but only so many...also, what about alternate routes? To quote my mother: 'Anything that can go wrong, eventually will.' So is there another route we can take, in case things go south? More-so than we'll already be going? Heheh."

okay so basically we are in agreeance for High Road. I do agree with Felix that we won't have much cover for flying creatures. However we will see anything coming for us especially theirs trying to hide. Does anyone know if flying creatures are a concern in this area?

Sariel opened a book on the roads history and read aloud. “The High Road is the connection between the northern and southern cities along the coast. It’s the only safe route to travel as it is regularly patrolled to prevent banditry. Not one hundred percent safe but safer than going off trail where patrols don’t frequent.”
No one had any objections. Not that there were better options aside from paying money none of them had for teleportation magic. “You lot are working hard.” Said an approaching Sildar with a young Workman behind him. “How goes the plans?”
“No, not in particular. At least I’ve never had reason to worry. You hear the odd tale of a flying beast but those are either made up, exaggerated, or rare. Beasts like that won’t normally attack a group unless they have the numbers. Even then it’s better for them to avoid the road altogether. There’s more game to be had elsewhere. And less chance of getting an arrow for their troubles. Speaking of food there’s someone I want you to meet.” He made a gesture toward the young man with him. “This young man is Thastrem. He will be your cook for the journey.” Thastrem was medium sized youth. He had short brown hair riddled with curls. His tunic was slightly loose and had travel worn boots and a traveler’s cloak over. He was remarkably thin but still maintained a wider frame than most and hazel eyes that appeared to change color in the light. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.” He clasped his hand over his fist and gave a small bow.
At the mention of food and a cook, Felix looked up quickly at the newcomer, taking in his appearance. He stood up and returned the same gesture in kind.
"Well met, Thastrem," he said. "I look forward to your cooking."
Eion stood next to Sildar and looked at the newcomer. "Sildar you always know how to treat a party right. Thastrem welcome aboard. I'm sure your cooking will be much better than whatever hellfire charred mess I could make. Now that we know our path, is everyone ready to go?"
After introductions were made Sildar addressed the party. “Its almost time. You all leave in two days, however Gundren and I are going to head out tomorrow with a small group to secure our work station and lodgings. The sooner we do that the smoother our work can go. Head out at first light and you should be there by dusk the next day. We will be waiting for you.” Sildar left the party to their preparations. As soon as the final preparations were made the day of departure came. Everyone loaded the cart and began to head out. Thastrem and Felix began driving the cart. Naomi, Sariel and Eion rode on the sides of the cart to keep an eye on the flanks and rear. As they approached the gates everyone couldn’t help but feel the excitement rush through them.
"I must admit, this is kind of exciting!" Felix exclaimed to the others. "I've always wanted to go on adventures, to explore this world and experience all it has to offer! And this will mark my first adventure with companions! But, I must ask: why am I the one driving, again? Not that I'm entirely against it, mind you!"

“Cause someone needs to watch the road while the others watch our backs. And this way we have someone to talk to.” Said a cheerful Thastrem.
Sariel was quite excited for the new adventure. She didn't mind watching out because she could at least look around at the scenery and look out for trouble at the same time.
Sariel offered to Felix "If you need a break I can give a try at the reigns. I don't exactly need sleep and I can see in the dark." Then Sariel had a blank moment "Oh wait I do need sleep! I don't mind taking turns however"
Eion chimed in while looking out to their surroundings, "I'd offer too Felix but can't say I'm the best person behind the reigns. Promise I'll watch your backs though!"
The road was empty for the first few miles. “Hey Sariel,” said Thastrem. “If you can see in the dark then why don’t you get some sleep now while you can? That way, when we make camp for the night, you can take first watch and be rested.”

ok then Sariel says as she takes a swig from her wine cup It looks as if the High Road is the most direct path. How does everyone else feel about?
"High road sounds good. Not much Forest area around the trail it seems so hopefully we will see anything coming our way." Eion responded to Sariel.
"Probably for the best," said Felix, looking at the map. "My only concern is the lack of cover, in case something flying decides to attack. Naomi takes a sip of rum then says, “It doesn’t look like there are any alternate routes according to the map... unless we make our own.”

Well that sounds good to me. Anyone else wanna chime in? As Sariel closed the book
No one had any objections. Not that there were better options aside from paying money none of them had for teleportation magic. “You lot are working hard.” Said an approaching Sildar with a young Workman behind him. “How goes the plans?”
Sildar.. You are familiar with this area. With High Road is there much of a worry for flying creatures?
“No, not in particular. At least I’ve never had reason to worry. You hear the odd tale of a flying beast but those are either made up, exaggerated, or rare. "Well, when you put it that way," he said with a shrug. "I don't suppose we'll all be switching off positions, every once in a while?"
Sariel was quite excited for the new adventure. She didn't mind watching out because she could at least look around at the scenery and look out for trouble at the same time.
